Other Factors: ...
General Comments: i honestly wasn't expecting this. I was preparing myself for rejection so it wouldn't hurt too much, and seeing that email was like... so many emotions at once. I'm still in a daze.

i was deferred (not unhappy or bitter... it was expected) and i'm going to make the statement that there should be a line to "diversity"... i think sometimes stanford picks some students over others and it's just plain ridiculous?

I hate affirmative action so much right now >.>

I think you're just being insencetive

You are going to get jumped on for that statement, just FYI. (Although its obvious why you feel that way, and I kind of agree.)

Seawolf, you got in for being a Native American, not any Asian tile games. They may have helped but don't think that anything but your race was the primary motivation for your acceptance.

I don't agree with when, but the irony in post 305 has me rofl.

who is going to get jumped on? me or "when"?

I think it's wrong to constantly downplay peoples' accomplishments on account of the need to prove one's own adequacy. In the words of Lil' Wayne:

"summer hatin on me cuz im hotter than the sun
spring hatin on me cuz i aint never sprung
winter hatin on me cuz im colder than y'all
and I would never I would never I would never fall

I'm gettin hated on by all the seasons
so **** y'all hatin for no reason"

that is the hegelian sort of union that has spawned from having to fight those who discriminate.

Rejected.

Both of you, as I now realize. Also, I agree with both of you.

Theseawolf, what are you trying to imply with your post? I'm not discriminating against you; merely, I'm pointing out why you got selected over other students. Your accomplishments are still relatively impressive, but the reason you were admitted was because of your race.

ROLL OVER LAUGH MY FUC*ING ASS OFF

nuff said.

how can you say that?
i think my accomplishments are perfectly legit.

my essays were pretty good too.

besides, who makes you the judge of what is a legitimit accomplishment?
my mahjonng is like really skillful

Because everyone else has legitimate accomplishments too, yet they get rejected (and obviously, very good essays.) I'm not disparaging you for getting in; conversely, I hope you make the most of the opportunities presented to you by the admissions committee. I'm just pointing that what primarily differentiated you from everyone else, and caused them to let you in, was your race. Perhaps the mahjongg helped, but I find it hard to believe you would be seeing the same email if you were white.

that's absolutely ridiculous.
I may have gotten a little boost for being croatan, but really, for you to say that it's the only reason is just a little bit narrowminded and presumptery.

Are you kidding me? Native Americans are the most sought after URM by basically every college in America, especially an institution that already overly tries to promote diversity like Stanford. White kids with your stats and level of ECs do not get in, even if they have done something unique like mahjongg or whatever (I don't see, again, how a tile game is a sought after EC, but I'm not an adcom, so I'm assuming it may be.) History suggests, though, that URMs with these qualities can. Saying your race helped is not being narrow minded or presumptuous. Its looking at the facts of the situation.

Again, congratulations to you for being selected to go to the fourth best (and most selective) undergraduate college in America. Just don't think your race didn't play a factor in that institutions decision to extend you an offer of admission. Stanford wanted you, obviously, and you deserve to go, but be aware that a significant portion of the reason the university wanted you to attend was your ancestry.

dude hate to break it to you, but nothing on your app screamed Stanford material at me, we're not being insensitive, we're being practical...grats regardless!

to be completely honest, your race did play a large role in your acceptance as any asian person with those stats would not stand a chance in hell of getting in. however, we will not be bitter or harsh to. you got in. congratulations! we didn't. stanford made the decision... let's drop it before this gets ridiculous.

General Comments:
President and secretary of clubs, school's honors society, peer tutoring, National Merit commended, work experience with children, 500+ volunteer hours

i completely agree with amciw. there is no doubt that race played a factor in your admissions decision, since stanford is looking to diversify their student body. your accomplishment are great, but you ahve to understand that there were people who were getting 2400's on the SAT with perfect recs and EC's who were getting rejected.

theseawolf, this is nothing towards you personally, but i think they should either increase their student body or take out the race factor in their admissions. it would cause in imbalance in the population but i think people who've worked hard throughout their lives should deserve to go to stanford; race is something that people cannot control and its kind of unfair to deny people just because they were born a certain race. that's just my two cents. i personally get my decision monday, but i'm using this post to kind of get off the stress, cuz after reading all of the rejection stats i'm hella nervous.
