mpicz calm down. there is nothing wrong with wondering what happened with SCEA this year. It is bewildering. I was admitted and still dont know how it possibly happened. I have hooks, but i know others with the same hooks and better stats that were deferred or rejected. There is nothing wrong with asking some questions when the results make no sense.

Lol ya I know that. But what answer are they expecting from a CC thread full of excitement or raging anger. If nothing with satisfy you then why waste such valuable time...no answer is going to make them feel better about rejection.

Be proud of your acceptance, I wouldn't let random people bring down the enjoyment of gaining admission into Stanford. Instead of worrying about why you were admitted. Im just saying this from an outside perspective, it sounds stupid

So, I guess I'll post my stats... Yay!

Decision: Accepted

Stats:
Fee Waiver Used?: No
SAT I (by section): 800 Math 710 Reading 700 Writing (10 essay) - one sitting

APs (including this year's): AP BC Calc 5, AP Chem 5, AP Euro 4, AP Physics, AP English Lang, AP Psych, AP Spanish (possibly self-study AP Stats)
IBs (including this year's): offered, but I didn't like how it hindered the amount of sciences I could take
Senior Yr Courseload: Challenging, but doable
Number of Apps from Your School: 6, all others were rejected
Other stats (Awards, etc.): National Merit SF, Cum Laude Society, Summa Cum Laude for 3 years

Strengths: "well-rounded" but that's so subjective, I think I had a good balance to things
Weaknesses: not a ton of academic/national awards
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Honestly, I think it was my essays because from looking at other applicants in this true "Stanford Slaughter," I didn't come with an application that had perfect standardized test scores. I have a solid GPA, I work hard in school, put time in my extra curriculars - I reach that standard. But I think my "voice" and creativity in my essays really helped make me stand out.

I'm a new member to CC, so forgive me if I haven't gotten the hang of things yet, haha. I want to extend my congratulations to those of you who have been accepted in the EA pool and say that we've accomplished a seemingly ridiculous feat. That being said, to those who have been deferred or rejected, just remember... there was a reason you applied to Stanford, you knew you had what it takes. You still do! College admissions are subjective to a certain extent and you never know what triggers that subjectivity... You could have had the wrong reader at the wrong time, but it's not the end all. You'll end up somewhere where you're happy - amazing people end up at amazing places.

Wow, looking through the posts in this thread, I'm completely amazed that such talented students were rejected from stanford. I'm really scared applying there next year, I don't even know if I still should. To those accepted, congratulations. Obviously something was unique and special about you that warranted stanford's attention. On the other hand, to those rejected, this doesn't mean that you're not talented or special, because you are. To have those kind of statistics and EC is amazing as it is. I know it's hard to move past the rejection, but hang in there!! Good Luck.

Question for SCEA applicants: how did you edit your supplemental essays to have no more than 1800 characters?

Well, mipicz, the interesting thing is that you're assuming an admissions officer who's never necessarily met a student can make a good decision after seeing...these stats plus an essay. I'd think again if you have concluded that the essay can REALLY TRULY differentiate students. At a point, it really is chance.

If you're NOT assuming what I'm saying you are, then you should be much more understanding when people talk about this rolling dice business!! Many are under that impression, and it's not unfounded. If it's obvious to you why such is not the case, I'd like to hear more.

Don't get me wrong...there are some great students going to Stanford. I just don't think it's fair to those who got rejected to ASSUME Stanford has a fabulous reason for what it does. I.e., those who want to vent have a good reason to.

i have to agree with mathboy98

The Stanford Daily - Breaking News from The Farm Since 1892
"After receiving a record-number 5,363 single-choice early applications in the fall, Stanford’s Office of Admission has accepted 689 prospective freshmen to the Class of 2013. An influx of applications combined with the need to cut back on admission offers by 100 makes this season’s early admission rate the lowest in the University’s history."
from the Stanford Daily

ACCEPTED!!!!
Finally!!!!!
I barely joined CC so I didn't post anything
on here the day that I got the letter

I don't think I'm going to Stanford though. Depending if I get into Princeton/Yale, I might go there instead.

You're not going to Stanford? I would choose Stanford over Princeton any day!

Princeton is way better.

If you listen to US News...

(And even then, not by much.)

Lol, I would choose Stanford based solely on the weather!

But then again I live in Minnesota now, so New Jersey weather would even be better!

for each person who wants to donate 5 million there are five more...honestly, only absurdly hefty donations such as 25 or up count...and only very few can do that so money doesnt have that much to do with it. but private school kids tend to be well-rounded which apparently is what stanford liked

Here's something I've noticed. 7 people listed themselves as being hispanic, or partially hispanic. And out of these, 6 were accepted, and 1 defferred... wow. That's encouraging to me 'cause I'm latin, but wow....

miawrites...I'm Mexican and I got in too.... Best of luck to u!

S was accepted SCEA. He does not visit this site so I will give a brief stats picture.
SAT 800 770 680 (he decided not to retake)
SAT II bio 790 Math II 800 US Hist 800
GPA 4.0 uw, rank #1/530
Numerous science awards including national recognitions.
Research published in peer reviewed journals (2x)
white, male, legacy (no donations from us though), with brother at Stanford.
Suburban not very competitive high school although ranked in the Newsweek top 100 due to IB program.
recs were probably very good although possibly formulaic.
He is not withdrawing his other apps on the advice of his parents who want him to have choices this Spring.
His rather strange why Stanford essay was referenced in the admissions counselor's letter congratulating him on admission.

hmm someone at my school got 36 ACT/3.9 GPA/Siemens semi and was rejected (not even deferred)...its pretty brutal...
