Hey everybody! I finally caved in and joined CC today (although I’ve followed the forums for about a year). Do you guys think Stanford’s acceptance rate will drop to 6% this year?

I guess RD rate was less than 6% last year only. This year it is bound to go below 5%…

Submitted my app yesterday.Good luck to everyone! :)

Haha yeah I reckon the same for me as well!

Does anyone understand what this means? It’s from the Stanford common data set for 2011-12. On the one hand they say writing is required (B), then they say they don’t use the essay (C) ??

Thanks

B. If your institution will make use of the ACT in admission decisions for first-time, first-year, degree-seeking applicants for Fall 2013, please indicate which one of the following applies:

“ACT with Writing component required”

C. Please indicate how your institution will use the SAT or ACT essay component:

“Stanford is not using essay component.”

Also they only mention ACT Composite, ACT English and ACT Math in the common data set. How about ACT Writing and ACT science, aren’t the latter two considered or are they averaged out under ACT English?

Thanks

I submitted… ! Ahhh. This is so crazy.

Good luck everyone. I submitted RD about a week ago. I’ve been on pins and needles ever since!
I must say though, I was really pleased with their application. I’m applying to twelve schools, but Stanford has the best application. I feel like it gives the best representation of who I am. Anyone else feel this way?

OH MY GOODNESS MISS PUMPKIN it’s as if you stole that thought right out of my head! I’m applying to twelve schools too, and I thought the EXACT same thing!! I wish all the schools could just use Stanford’s supplements… :P

Guys, am I the only person feeling nervous now that we’ve submitted?

I changed a period to an exclamation point in my essay for other schools, and now I want Stanford to see the exclamation point. Somebody tell me I’m overreacting like crazy LOL. I thought I’d be all happy and carefree at this point but I’m just a bundle of nerves!!! I even had a nightmare about college decisions last night. Sigh.

Yeah, I’m sure you’re over-reacting. I think we all are! I was watching an interview with a Stanford admissions officer (right after I submitted my application) and he said to avoid the word “passion” in our applications. I must have used that word a few dozen times… :P

Oh dear. My letter to my roommate was about my passions. And I’ve probably abused the word and its derivatives quite a bit.

I took a big risk on the roommate essay. I wrote about reasons NOT to like me. I kept it funny and lighthearted since my other essays were serious.

Mike. That is brilliant!

I did a Top 4 Reasons You’ll Hate Me and a Top 5 Reasons You’ll Love Me,

Deferee here and I would like to join in. Good luck everyone! I’m ready to do this rollercoaster-esque ride again with all of you! Hope you all have a great New Years! Party hard (if you’re into that), but be safe!!

mike2132 I did reasons not to like me too! Shoot, I thought I was being original. Oh well. Yeah, I decided that was the place to be light-hearted and humorous.

I’m an RD applicant and I have a quick question! For the profile question about the most significant challenge that society faces, would it be way too risky if I wrote about a certain food? It’s very lighthearted, but I don’t want Stanford to think I didn’t take the question seriously. I figured there are enough applicants writing about global warming, the gap between rich and poor, etc… Any advice? :)

@whatsmyname an original take on an answer is always good

Just applied! Common app decided to screw me over and hide the last line of my first essay for them (the one about the extracurricular or work experience) but hopefully that won’t look to bad. It’s sad cause I print previewed and it was find and then their system fails oh well. The rest of my app will hopefully make up for that :D
