Official stanford rd applicants 2014

^ ~30 minute drive north of Sacramento
I don’t want to get too specific unless you really want me to. :)

Are you from some comparable area? :D

—Oh! Your info right there says North Bay. xD Lol.
I lived in Fremont for a while! But that’s south bay.

I’ve been stalking out the international admissions counselors.

One of them is Ms Kiyoe Hashimoto.

You can order photos of her here:

hahahaa

The other one is Michael Elgarico.

You can read his thoughts on finding the ideal applicant on page 3 of this document:

■■■■. 32,000 applicants?? !!! I think my heart just shattered. But I don’t see that anywhere, so whoever said that, can you please provide a link?
Oh geez. This is just great. Stanford’s only been my dream school for forever.

Anyway, good to meet you all!
I’m from Alabama…Asian though :frowning: lol. I’m a pretty average applicant if I have to say so, but I’m really hoping my essays get me in. My SAT scores suck…ACT score is decent. Yeah, I’m hoping they’re as holistic as they say. That’s part of what made me fall in love with the place  The fact that it’s not an ivy-league-2400SAT-5.0GPA kind of school (in terms of selection), but still beats the ivies in so many ways. Sigh. My fingers will be crossed for the next 3 months.

^Approximately 25% of the class of 2013 scored above 2300 on the SAT. Scores are important! Stanford recruit many athletes with lower than average SAT’s. Guess who makes up the drop? The unhooked!

I’m from Bangkok, Thailand. (Purely international and an URM, I believe?) Hopefully, that helps make me stand out among the 32,000 applicants. My SAT didn’t even break 2000 but I had lots of ECs.

I WANNA GET IN!!! Stanford has always been my only dream school. All we can do now is have faith. =)

I know that it is harder for OOS students to get accepted to the UCs…but what about Stanford? Because I live in MI and I hope that’s not the case. Stanford is my DREAM school and w/ my grades, etc. it will already be a long shot…

drpvv, yea I was just wondering if you also lived in North bay.

Xargon, Youre a hell of a stalker. LOL

haha right.

Does more applicants necessarily mean more acceptances?

no, because they have roughly the same number of spots open each year. so every year, they accept roughly 2400 kids. and if the number applying keeps getting higher, while the number accepted remains the same, then the acceptance rate goes lower and lower.

Yes, Stanford sends likely letters. To what type of applicants… I don’t know.

Another RDer over here :). I’m from SoCal.

Likely letters are mainly to recruited athletes and academic geniuses/standouts. Other schools have about 200-300 likely letters and they are to the top applicants that schools want to admit because they know that other schools will also be talking to these students.

Well URMs wouldn’t get them for being a URM but if they excelled in athletics or academics they sure could. EC standouts could be possible as in Chess Champion but different schools have different criteria for likelies.

The common thread between all students who get likelies are that A. they are pretty much accepted students unless they become criminals in the next 2 months or flunk out and B. all are the TIPPITY TOP applicants ( you have to be extremely exceptional)

The main point of a likely is so that you don’t show interest in another school and they want to grab you in as quickly as possible. these applicants are the best and the schools know that other schools will also be showing a LOT of interest in them. By giving them likelies a student knows months before their other offers and thus the school will have 2- more months to encourage the student to choose their school

Correct me if I’m wrong but in past years they’ve sent out ~120 likely letters 60 of which are for atheletic superstars and the rest of multicultural academic people.

Does anyone know Stanford’s financial aid requirments aside from the FAFSA and the CSS profile?

You need to submit your 2009 tax information as well.

Yes, but not until April 1.
