*Official* Stanford REA 2015 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Awww no! Sorry if it came across that way… like I said, I was just asking a curious question. You’re perfectly welcome to stay here :)

@kaira07

see, fledgling is apologizing. Forgive fledgling already :p

^_^

Haha i forgive him. (Is Fledgling a him? )

I think fledgling is a she, right??

Okay to change the subject… Most INTERESTING and UNIQUE classes you have taken?

For me: (note i’m homeschooled, so i simply picked a subject and found a college textbook)

Epidemiology (official CDC course :D)
Game Theory (Very epic stuff)
Quantum Physics (Very epic… stuff)
Marketing
Number Theory

All electives!

Epidemiology?! let me go google. :/

I googled it, some health thing
Game Theory?? How was that??

before i was homeschooled all my schools had just the necessary courses, so there weren’t any ‘unique’ classes. The most interesting class I have taken is Psychology, which isn’t unique, but I love it xD

^I love psychology too. It’s so interesting. But my favourite subject by far is political science. :)

I expected political science to be really boring, but it actually is interesting. Or seemed, because I’ve never taken it.
What are you majoring in?

Hmm…
I took 7 A-level courses, 3 AS-Level courses (British system)
and self-studied Multivariable Calc, Diff Eqns, Linear Algebra.

Took Game Theory (Yale lectures)
CS106A (Stanford)

Talking about unique, I half completed Advanced Classical Mechanics (couldn’t do the other half as my knowledge of math was limited).

Most interesting class I’ve taken- A tie between Theory of Knowledge and HL Math. Theory of Knowledge is the strangest class. Set up like a Socratic discussion, we focus a lot on the ways of knowing (sense perception, reason, emotion, language) and knowledge issues. This year we’ve focused a lot on absolute reality, which I find fascinating. And HL Math… how do I describe that class…I’m not a math person, but math fascinates me…This math class goes on past calculus and really hammers in math theory. Probably useless for most things, because it’s difficult to get college credit and it sure doesn’t prepare you for things like the ACT or SAT IIs in math, but it’s an absolute blast to be in that class.

^

Did you take SL Further Math? That’s kind of interesting too xD

No, I’ve got too many electives, and too many HLs to have room in my schedule for an extra IB class… :frowning: Are you an IB student, sarbaraj101? (spelled it right this time!)

^

not really. But I skimmed through the IB courses during my free time.
I went through HL Eco, HL Math, SL Further Math, HL Physics, HL Chem.

Most of it is already in the A-level course… so just filled in the gaps xD

Ahh! Then why were you saying HL math was easy a couple pages ago!? It SO isn’t! RUDE! :P

^

I’d still say it’s easy. It is almost the same as A-level Math, if we take Stat 1 and 2 as the elective papers.

Eh… depends on which book you use (Haese and Harris=weenie HL math; Smythe= ■■■ HL math). The IB exam will be the ultimate test of difficulty, though, I suppose. What is A-level Math?

[International Education and Qualifications from CIE](http://www.cie.org.uk) - All the A-level resources here (the board I was under)

You could think about it like this:
A-level course is equivalent to HL
AS-level course is equivalent to SL

I have seen the IB past papers.

Hmm… I’ve never heard of it before! Btw, Stanford supplement was just submitted  Waiting for a couple days before submitting my CommonApp, though.
