Wulfran- hey, ya jerk! I am out at a concert! MEAN! ;)

This thread is so interesting. I’m so glad I made the right choice by choosing to apply to a school that attracts such interesting people. :)

Courtney- Hahaha, that’s even better! Why’re you posting on CC from a concert!? XDDDD

Fledgling- Me too. :3

(Edit: blah, the wibble-face looks ugly in this font/font size…)

I was out all day HELPING THE COMMUNITY (jerks ) so i’m resting now!

Alright, I believe we can make an exception for Jason Unfortunately I have to scramble on this English paper… I missed a day of school last week because I had a fever, and was pretty much wiped out for 24 hours. I should probably get off CC so I can actually complete it :p

I’m busy going over my essays for Stanford again, so, at least i’m being productive :p. I swear, i spend 3 hours a day on these supplements alone

^^Hooray for procrastination? XD I should probably work on my apps… @_@

Haha, I started 3 months ago. I’m just a perfectionist.

I am too, but I have app block… :-/

Hey quick question-- do you think admissions officers will notice/mind if one of my short essays is 15-20 words over the limit? I generally wouldn’t ask a question like that but Stanford seems to be nit-picky about quite a lot of things (resumes, SAT score choice). So what do you think?

I’m still not so sure why this question is so often versed. A word limit is there for the same reason a speed limit is - to keep people UNDER. Sure, you can go over, but at your risk. During your first week of driving, do you go over the limit? No, you’re being careful. Unfortunately, you don’t have more than one chance with apps. Make it count.

So in summary of my little soliloquy, NO, don’t go over. It’s a simple request, and if you can’t shorten, then you need to upgrade your editing skills.

Sorry to rant at you I’m typically a nice guy. I’m meaning this more to the general public. But seriously - why would S want you if you can’t stick to the guidelines?>

@bananas: I dunno about SAT score choice being picky, but that’s not the point. If you mean the 250-word ones, keep in mind that 25 words would be an extra 10%. Maybe keep it to within 5%? But I doubt anybody is going to waste their time counting your words. They have got 32,000+ apps to read, and it keeps going up…

@Jason: But the word counts are there just to make sure that the admissions officers don’t have too much to read. So just a couple words over is not going to be too bad.

Wulfran - They’re probably really good at eyeballing sizes. If it’s 10% extra, i’m sure they can catch that with the naked eye! Agree?

And true - But still, they say in 250 words or less, not around 250 words :p.

Yes. I did say not to do 10%…

Yeah, I was getting your backup, not disagreeing. I wonder if they do matter though, because honestly, when you do a speech class/contest and the limit is 5 minutes, well, the limit is freaking 5 minutes. Perhaps they’re not as rigid. I’m just used to my mom and her “rigidity”. Apparently that’s a word.

Oh, mkay XD sorry.

Yeah, that is a word. I think the word limits are set out like that because the majority of applicants would go too far over something that was “about” 250 words. Because, you know, a lot of people would be like “300 words- okay, that’s about 250.” But 255 or 260- not so bad at all.

I can only imagine what it would be like if all of us were in a room together…

^ Exactly, haha! By the way, has anyone watched the video at admission.stanford.edu? Just watched it. Now I’m pretty sure I’m in love :D

I’m home because I have a 102 degree fever and my parents won’t let me go out :(
