*Official* Stanford REA 2015 Applicants' Discussion Thread

whoa
whoa
whoa…
HOLY cow this thread seriously doubled over the last few days or something O___O
(nice job everyone though lol)

one question: where on stanford website does it indicate that they don’t want a resume? I don’t recall seeing such an advice. I’m really curious because most colleges welcome (and endorse) activities resume, and since we’d put them in “Additional Info,” there’s no way to customize Common App exclusively for Stanford. My cousin applied to Stanford (didn’t make it, but that’s besides the point haha) and she still attached her resume. I’m sure resume had no effect on her being rejected.

@kaira07:

yup. Princeton’s pretty tough. And add UChicago there too…
x__x

I finished all my short short answers for the supplement! (cutting close to 300 words on every one)
If anyone wants to read/give me advice or what opinions you get from them that’d be cool although I suspect they’ll under go major editting if they having already xD

The common app essay, activities essay, and short answer (250 words) are left alksjdalksjdf;kalfdfkl

Oh sorry for the double post. It’s here:
“Please do not send any additional materials which are not specifi cally
requested in the application. This includes school or work resumes,
research papers, and writing samples. They will not be considered.”

EDIT: Oh wow, I just found the edit button. Yaay
umm, I dunno about putting a resume on the additional info. I think it’s allowed but not completely sure. Just make sure it doesn’t repeat any info?

hmmmm
well it’s extracurricular so technically not school-related :o
because honestly there’s no way I can elaborate my four-years’ work within the space provided by common app…

gawrawroijeoijf I don’t really know at this point. I’m sure they won’t reject me because I attached a resume, but I’d be a sad goose if they didn’t read the addit. info. ><

Haha, keeping it brief is hard. I’m actually having a similar problem. I was a mod of a pretty active thread in a big forum and did a lot of stuff there but I don’t really have room for it in my app since I’ve been with it for 4+ years. So I decided I’m just getting my friend who is the owner of the thread to write my extra recommendation for me :)

^

not a bad idea :)

@Flamingdonuts
check the website. They specifically ask you to NOT send any additional items (which includes a resume).

@Sar: I know that, I quoted that in my post…
I was just saying that there’s a section under the common app under the writing tab for additional info and you could put bits of your resume there, as long as it isn’t repetitive with your other info. Sorry for not being clear D:

yeah. I’m doing that too xD

Flamingdonuts- I’d love to read your supplements! Editing is kind of my passion! And I’ve already submitted all my apps, so you don’t have to worry about them getting stolen  Send them over! courtney.en.pointe@gmail.com

^all of them? What is with people on CC sending apps so early? It makes me feel worried. :/

Haha well I started working in June. I’ve yet to finally submit 5 of my apps, but that should be today. I submitted the first 4 yesterday. When it comes to applying to college, I’m just possessed by this crazy drive to (pardon my language) get **** done! I can’t not work on my college apps. So now, everything’s done :)

aw dang, CC censors you! WEIRD.

Oooh I have a topic starter for y’all. How do you think your 2 teacher recs/counselor rec will turn out? Who is doing them/why did you choose them?

I made 3 teachers write me recommendations. +1 just in case. And we are assigned GCs.

Reco 1 : Math - It will be great. My Math teacher and I organized a Math Tournament in the school. He knows about my independent initiative in learning A-level Further Math, and other topics of higher abstract mathematics.

Reco 2 : Chem - This is should be nice too. Although I didn’t do many Chemistry related ECs, the teacher holds a high value of me. I topped the class several times, and he is impressed by my deductive reasoning skills.

Reco 3: Eco - Hoping a good one here too (aren’t we all? xD) I was pro-active in class, and he also finds my deductive skills impressive. In economics too, I went out of the standard course and completed Game Theory, and did some introductory Econometrics.

I will be sending the Math reco, and now I’m confused as to whether to send the Economics reco or the Chemistry reco. :S

Do you have a good relationship with your GC? My recommendations will certainly be interesting…

1: Teacher I’ve had a great relationship with for the last 4 years. My English teacher, thinks very highly of my writing skills. Also the Cabinet (student government) sponsor, so she’s seen my leadership skill planning several dances, assemblies, elections, and the like. She refers to me as her daughter and is a brilliant writer, so I’m confident in that one.

2: My Biology teacher. He’s been my Bio teacher for the last 3 years, and he has a great idea of my academic capabilities. He’s the only person to ever call my brilliant. BUUUUTT… I may skip his class roughly 30% of the time and he knows I’m out to lunch and not sick at home or anything. He promises to only write of my academic capabilities, so my fingers are crossed :P

GC: This will be the greatest one  For some reason, she thinks the world of me. I’ve built a great relationship with her over the last 4 years.

I’m hoping my recs will be one of the stronger parts of my app.

^

My GC told me to “not worry about the recommendation”, and she thinks highly of me too. [I had the most demanding course load in the country]

that was pleasing enough :)

Well I’m not going to argue with you, but I don’t necessarily agree that you’re taking the hardest course load in the country… You could step on a lot of toes with statements like that…

^

I’m from Nepal (int’l), and I have verified from all the sources I can…
