Official Stanford SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

^ I’m sure most of us have that feeling ^_^

After checking it 20 times, I pressed submit. And then I had a sinking feeling in my stomach and checked it again. Thank god I didn’t have any typo’s.

…but I still have a feeling. hahaha

^I had checked mine so many times, and I’d had multiple people review my essays, so I figured I’d be fine. And what’s done is done, no use changing it.

And then when I went to copy the intro of one of my supplement essays to rework as my intro for another app, I realized I spelled Canada as “Canad”. And for some reason I never caught it, nor did my spell check in Chrome. Ah well! If five reviewers can miss it, I guess I can just hope the admissions committee will too?

Such is life.

I’m sorry I won’t be able to join you guys after all - I’m officially a Harvard SCEA’er now (even though I started this thread). But Stanford will always have a special place in my heart, and I’m definitely applying RD!

P.S. You guys are going to have to step it up if this thread is going to remotely resemble the REA thread from last year… ;)

Sent mine off yesterday. Now to do the rest of the apps… :]

Why the switch Calgirl?

@ dapotatoman: This is literally the lamest reason ever, but… I couldn’t come up with satisfactory answers for my Stanford supplement in time. :P

Hello everybody! Couldn’t resist finally jumping on the CC forum… I know it’s completely unhealthy to obsess this much over a college, but it always makes me feel better to know that I’m not the only crazy one.

And while we continue counting down, I’ve still gotta do a ton of apps:(

Applied. Scared out of my mind. AH!

Also applied  Does anyone have a link to the stanford site where it says that the deadline is 11.59pm PDT on nov 1?

@Aussie: No but I have an email and they explicitly state that is when it is due.

Ah awesome. Thanks for the confirmation.
I’m looking forward to mid december :)

And now the waiting “officially” begins… and I have 9 more essays to write. Anyone else applying to any UCs?

Yup, the waiting begins… Here’s a list of things you can do to temporarily take your mind off of Stanford and Palo Alto (:

 1. Work out
 2. Go shopping
 3. Think of what you want to do this summer
 4. Learn a recipe (so that you won’t be eating Ramen EVERY night next year)
 5. Make oobleck- one part cornstarch, one part water
 6. Blow bubbles- one part dish soap, one part water
 7. Go through a few pages of damnyouautocorrect.com
 8. Learn to type with your feet
 9. Play with your pet (or get one)
 10. Take the square root of random numbers without a calculator
 11. Graph random functions
 12. Memorize the value of pi. You can start with this: 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510
 13. Wash your car
 14. Make s’mores in your fireplace
 15. Time yourself at Sudoku and try to beat your record
 16. Use an eraser until it goes away
 17. Resist the urge to contact the admissions committee

Good luck to everyone (:

I made a Sudoku program using C++.

guys do you know when are we going to a confirmation e-mail from staford ? you know, the one with the login info for stanford’s tracking service

Who needs pi? Tau=2*pi should really be the fundamental circle constant. Think about it: pi is defined using the diameter of a circle, whereas a circle is defined with its radius. The ‘fundamental circle constant’ should be C/r, not C/d, aka tau and not pi. Ever wonder why so many formulas have a 2pi floating around?

I think it’s around 1 week, may be longer depending on how close to the deadline you turned it in.

@squidgetx TAU APPRECIATION FOREVER. And thanks for that info. Do you know if they send the login info email, even if they haven’t filed every piece of the application in yet? (e.g. recommendation letters)?

I HATE tau. It is all I heard from my math teacher last year. I like pi, sounds cool and looks cooler. Who cares about the actual math?

How long after sending in your app were you guys able to sign into axess?

Question… I sent my SAT score report on the Oct 18th and my ACT score report on Oct 20th but when I went on to Axess and put in my email it said that they have not been processed. Could that simply mean they haven’t match them with my application yet? Should I just wait a few days and check again? Or should I email my stanford rep?
