Stanford will accept you if and only if you belong there. It doesn’t matter if you apply early or not

abelinkin60: Stanford wants students that are diverse but with a passion for something in specific. So in answer to your question they want both.

StanfordCS: Yes sir/ma’am

@ abelinkin60: I personally like to think that many top schools like “T-shaped” students - meaning applicants with knowledge and expertise in a wide range of fields, but being particularly exceptional at one or two of them.

Well stated calgirl15.

What do you think is more important in terms of showing leadership, say starting a new program from scratch or being president of student council or national honor society type things?

abelinkin60: By far starting a new program from scratch is better. Remember this: you want to be different. Its certainly good to be the president of student council or NHS but there are many kids with that same title. You want your college app to stand out, so if you look like everyone else then you blend in. So do something different by starting your own program because not only does that demonstrate leadership, but also creativity, drive, initiative, assertiveness and hardwork. In addition if you create a program that can serve your community or school then you get points for community/school service too.

Is applying SCEA detrimental to international applicants? I don’t plan on applying for aid at Stanford, because they are not need-blind for international.

Hi everyone! I’ll be applying REA for Stanford too. Ah, it’s all coming so fast, especially that November 1st deadline.

The fact that you have to send SAT and ACT scores if you’ve taken both worries me a little though because my SAT score is so much better than my ACT score. It shouldn’t end up mattering too much though…

For Stanford it says "Applicants must self-report and submit all SAT scores and all ACT scores. Applicants may not use the College Board’s Score Choice feature or “hide” any scores with either testing agency. "

I know that means that if i choose the ACT, I have to submit every single instance that ive taken the act. But is that if i choose act to be the test i submit? Or if i say took ACT 4 times and SAT once (long time ago but still in high school), do i have to submit all 4 ACT plus the SAT even though i choose ACT to be the test im submitting?

The admissions director from Stanford who came to my school to speak said you have to report all test scores - that is, for you, you’d have to submit both your ACT and SAT. He actually went on to repeat the point a few times, and a parent even asked for clarification.

They want scores from both tests if you’ve taken both. Sucks, huh?

Their stance is that they only look at the best scores though.

Thats a good question mytuesdaysmile. I would imagine that the score from prior years wouldn’t mean much but you should call Stanford and find out if the test you took in 9th/10th grade mean anything and need to be included. Let us know what they say.

Stanford says, if you have taken BOTH the SAT or ACT we want BOTH scores. UNLESS if you took the SAT or ACT for talent search programs like Duke’s, then we don’t want those scores.

So what that means is, if you took the SAT 5 times and the ACT 5 times they want ALL 10 scores from SAT and ACT.

And if you don’t send them, and Stanford finds out, your offer of admissions WILL BE rescinded.

If you did fairly bad on the SAT in beginning of tenth grade but later that same year you got a way better score on the ACT (proportional estimate). and then you took the ACT two more times and got good scores consistently, how detrimental is it to me that i messed up on my first SAT?

^ No one on CC can tell you how detrimental it will be, unless someone here is an adcomm.

I know that no one can accurately tell me that but its just like people asking to be “chanced”, i just wanted people’s opinions

lol totally unrelated, but I just submitted my app! i was so nervous!!

Congrats to you. reenysinghasong.

I’m applying RD.

Congrats reeny! Were you doing an arts supplement or just being an early bird?

I was doing an arts supplement, and now the waiting begins…

but good luck to everybody else on finishing their applications! I am sure that they will be about 7895729045729057209x better than mine, but oh well :)
