I think that additional update form is for deffered applicants…

Holocene, I think your right, though, overall, I’d say there are definitely some states that are more competitive than others. In Oregon, I know there’s Jesuit High School, which is absolutely elite, but other than that I think many of our schools are noncompetitive (I’m sure there are probably some amazing schools I’m just unaware of). Though I absolutely love my high school, enjoy my peers, and adore my teachers, it has only sent 2 kids to Stanford and one to Brown in the last decade even though it has had a decently large student body of 1600 students to 1700 students each year, so I consider it pretty noncompetitive (and we are the best school academically in my school district). I do wonder if Portland-area (I agree with alegollama that it would make sense for Portland to have some great high schools) or other areas throughout the state are a bit more competitive in terms of selective college admissions than where I’m from.

@goforitman, I believe the Stanford ID number is the same as the Common App ID number. It was for me at least.

And, also, I hope everybody has a fantastic Thanksgiving tomorrow! :)

The discussion above, and a comment my SIL (a college councillor at a prestigious private high school) made – that they haven’t had any students admitted to Stanford in 5 years while they used to have 2-5 every year – made me wonder if Stanford gives preference to kids from particular high schools.

I hope not, since no one from S’s school has been admitted to Stanford in at least the past 6 years. I would hope that strong performance on standardized tests and recognition for ECs could overcome limits of your high school.

I second the Happy Thanksgiving wishes!

^i would actually think that colleges prefer students from schools where they DON’T have people, so that they can increase diversity…

I had a dream last night that I got accepted to Stanford. (Please be a precognitive dream! I’ve had those before… in hindsight.)

23 days until the 15th!

It usually releases the results on a Friday. So this year, it could be on Dec. 14, if not sooner, as Stanford often did in the past.

I know, I’ve just been keeping track of the absolute latest day we will hear back.

[Stanford?s ‘early action’ decisions released today - Washington DC College admissions | Examiner.com](http://www.examiner.com/article/stanford-s-early-action-decisions-released-today)

I hope this happens again.

^God, that gave me a mini heart attack… totally thought it was about TODAY… I’m not irrational or anything :P

Yeah, it’s generally the Friday before the 15th… it’s just that this year the 15th is a Saturday. I’m also wondering how extending the deadline for Hurricane Sandy will affect the timing of our decisions.

I concur coffeeandtea… I expect Sandy will make it so we don’t get the scores until the 14th.

So, where do y’all think they are at this point reviewing our applications? Do you think they are through the first read of all of the apps?

The letter sent to alumni families (I got one) stated that we will know after 3 PM on Dec. 14.

Especially because of Hurricane Sandy, I would be surprised if we found out as early as applicants did last year. I’m just trying not to get my hopes up lulz. Hopefully I am wrong.

As far as reviewing applications, I heard that they don’t start until after thanksgiving. I know that Penn reviews them in 8 days, so maybe Stanford does something similar. It would be interesting to know. I was thinking about that the other day - at some moment in time, while I am completely unknowing, someone will be reading my essays and deciding on my app. GAH.

^Do you think that they’ll get November test scores if that’s the case?

No idea. It’s possible they won’t take them simply because some applicants’ files will already be reviewed before they see them, and that may lead to unequal evaluations. But I don’t know anything more than you, my friend.

Why would they wait so long to start reading?

It probably takes awhile to assemble all the files.

Just wondering, has anyone who applied on Nov. 1st or close to there been contacted for an interview yet? I’m wondering how long I should wait before feeling pretty sure that I won’t get one.

Two to three weeks!!

For those anxiously waiting - the Stanford admit page for the Class of 2017 is up and running. A nice musical welcome to the 2017 class. Enjoy.

Thanks @MITprospect! I wish my SUNet ID worked here already, but not yet… haha

I almost watched it, but I decided I would wait until it’s really happening… I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise, or get too happy and then end up with a rejection. This waiting is terrible!
