Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Applicants' Discussion Thread

^Hah yeah I just don’t want to believe it won’t be tomorrow.

There is a recap if you go back a few pages.

It’s on page 64.

@Chewey56: The key to me is that December 15th is a deadline, not a release date (it says “by the 15th”). Stanford in the last 3 years has released its decisions 5-6 days in advance of its December 15th deadlines.

Apparently, Stanford has also been announcing its actual release date only the “morning of.” This approach leaves all the poor applicants (and their parents) to speculate when the decisions will actually be released. Holocene’s recap (taken from page 46) is pretty compelling:

Reasons why is could be 12/7:
-It tends to be two weeks after thanksgiving
-It tends to be the day after Columbia/Dartmouth/Cornell
-The three aforementioned ivies were more affected by Sandy than Stanford and are still getting decisions out. [Holocene is wrong about Cornell, as I mentioned above, but I think their delay is related to their huge bump in applicants.]
-Stanford is pretty much always before Harvard, which, as you said, will be Tuesday
-We are desperate and need hope to cling onto.

Reasons it could be next week:
-The 7th is earlier than any time in the past 10 years
-The legacy letter said the 14th - which I think we have collectively confirmed is not always (or even usually) accurate.

In addition to the above, we have the fact that:

the language in Stanford’s SCEA FAQ has stated since at least November 26th that the admissions decisions have already been made (they just haven’t been released yet)

SUNnet has apparently been updated to accomodate admitted students

My guess is Stanford is ready to pull the trigger, and barring any last-second hiccup, it could be tomorrow.

All that said, it would be nice if Stanford would publish a firm distribution date. Even if it were closer to the 15th, as in Cornell’s case. Having a firm date would eliminate at least a bit of the tension and uncertaintly for everyone.

Question…where is everyone getting Tuesday 12/11 for Harvard??

This is just nerve raking! I agree with SocalPapa they should tell us the date so we don’t have to speculate.

I’m pretty sure harvard is next thursday, a lot of my friends applied and that’s what they said

If it is tomorrow at what time does Stanford announce it on their website?

Wait wait, I have a friend who got into Harvard on Tuesday!! I totally didn’t make the connection… Oh boy, that messes everything up.

Tony~Thanks  I didn’t want to give my S a heart attack without back up ;)

Good luck to everyone!!!

To be honest, not feeling good about my chances at this point. Out of curiosity, will this article (<a href=“YouTube RealTime Shows Time-Stamped Comments as You Watch | Mashable”>YouTube RealTime Shows Time-Stamped Comments as You Watch | Mashable) written about a site I made have much of an impact? Lots of other sites wrote similar articles about it as well. I do lots of stuff in web-dev/programming like this and it’s definitely one of the more impressive parts of my app. Honestly, how much merit does something like that hold on its own?

From the Harvard thread it looks like their e-mail notification date is Thurs. Dec. 13th.

Mark230, the article itself probably won’t have any impact, as Stanford specifically cautions against sending clippings, etc., and warns that “they will not be considered”.

However, your website (is it just a website? or an app?) is very cool, and I’m sure Stanford will give you credit for your creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in developing it.

SocalPapa, yes, Thursday, December 13, is what Harvard has told its SCEA applicants.

Venice707, I wrote my intellectual vitality essay on my programming stuff, and I talked a little bit about the site and how different tech news sites wrote about it. I didn’t actually send the article in any way.

Technically it’s a web app. Thanks for the input!

mark your from PA too?

Mark, that looks pretty cool! I agree that what you did is going to make a bigger difference than an article written about it but still, congrats on your success!

SocalPapa, nice recap/commentary. You caught a few things I missed.

I wish Stanford would just publish the date in advance. This is absurd.

Yes, I’m from PA.

Is it wrong that I’m killing time by reading the decisions on the Columbia thread?

That’s what I’m doing too ^

I’m too scared to look.
