Official Stanford SCEA 2017 Deferred Applicants

Hey I saw several people saying that someone should start a thread for deferred applicants, so here it is.
I don't know a lot about being deferred, but I know that it's gonna be a pain to have to go through all this again until April 1st.

Agreed. Where else are you applying?

do you guys know how many out of 6100 were deferred? it says 15% of us will get in so at least we definitely have a bonus compared to people who are just applying regular

I thought Stanford almost never deferred but looking at the other thread it feels like there are a lot of us… and hm applied to Yale, Northwestern, Michigan, UW Honors, Berkeley, UCSB, UCSC, Pomona and Tufts! You?

Hello!
My daughter was deferred, and out of five REA applicants from her school, (top private, college prep in Oregon), only her and one other were deferred. The other three REA applicants were rejected. Typically, three students a year from her school are accepted to Stanford, but they don’t break down the stats between regular and REA admissions. What do you think her chances are at this point? I don’t know much about the deferred process. Thanks!

Another question–since the National Merit Finalist decisions will be released prior to regular decisions, can that information still be submitted to Stanford from deferred applicants?

Yes, you can mention national merit status in the optional additional information sheet

Besides Stanford, I’m applying to Duke, Penn, Northwestern, Hopkins, USC, Tulane, and 5 of the UCs. I might apply to a couple more depending on how I feel.

How many of you guys are from CA like me?

I’m from upstate New York… gah this is so anticlimatic after all these weeks of waiting for results! But hey, better than a rejection…

Thank you, cvonmuench for the reply. Regarding other schools, my daughter is applying to Harvard, Columbia, the University of Chicago, Yale, Pomona, Scripps, Barnard, and USC. How likely is it for deferred applicants to get into Stanford? Is it just a polite way of saying, “hey, your stats are great, but we don’t want you”?

A big reason why we were hoping for Stanford is because she is young–sixteen years old. Going to school 600 miles away is better than 3000…

have any of you created you SUNet IDs yet?

Hey guys! sigh Being deferred is a bit of a bummer (so many mixed feelings guys!), though a lot better than being rejected.

I’ve also applied to Northwestern, Harvard, Brown, Tulane, Northeastern, UT Austin (I’m from Texas). Getting deferred from Stanford kinda gave me hope about getting into other top schools, so I may add some more.

There were 570ish deferred applicant this year from a pool of 6300 I believe…

I always thought that Stanford shied away from deferring many applicants - looks like my impressions were wrong.

they defer about 10 percent every year. so honestly, i feel incredibly honored to be considered good enough to be part of that 10 percent! despite the fact that…15 percent out of that is…well…still quite low.

I’m from AZ(in case my username wasn’t obvious). I still have to narrow down the list within the next couple days but: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, USC, Columbia, George Washinton U, Georgetown. I was hoping to get accepted to Stanford and not have to do any other applications, but at least I didn’t get rejected.

Anyone know when our FAFSA deadline is now, since we got deferred?

Hi buds! So I got deferred too, which is very frustrating, but I’m proud that I made it this far. I’m just not sure exactly what else I can do to up my chances. Any ideas?

I’m from Texas too! I applied to UT Honors, USC, Berkeley, Tulane, Vanderbilt, Princeton, and Rice. I had also thought that they rarely defer applicants, and kind of take it as a polite way of rejection…
