Hi Congrats y’all for getting deferred
Is it true that they take 15% of those deferred?
No idea :0 @blobtown
I would like to know if anyone has any idea of what deferred admissions statistics are like? Stanford claims that it is their philosophy to defer as few applicants as possible, and this is certainly true looking at last year’s REA admission statistics as only 9% of REA applicants were deferred. This is much lower than Ivy League universities like Harvard which deferred 75% of REA applicants last year. However, does Stanford’s low deferral pool translate to better chances of admission in the regular round in both absolute or relative terms?
I heard that around 15% of deferred applicants got in
Not sure though i don’t have a source it might jut be my imagination
so we have bigger chances!
What percentage of applicants are deferred,
and what percentage of deferred applicants are accepted (approximately)?
Hi guys I got deferred and I’m really upset about it. Also, there’s a school I really like that I wanted to apply ED II to. Now I don’t know what to do!!
@rmp2848 Don’t be upset!! Stanford doesn’t take many students as deferred!
Ugh - the wait continues. I’m still hopeful!
Wait lol i made one before you http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/20118608#Comment_20118608
whatever
@callmegray I’m sorry, I didn’t see it. everyone use that one
Does anyone know if we are allowed to send them updated test scores? I’m taking the SAT subject tests in January because I had terrible scores on those.
I read the thread for deferred applicants of 2020 a while back. They usually accept between 15%-25% of deferred applicants. So, odds still not in our favor, but better than we expected? Lol anyway, twin sis and I both got deferred
Deferred!
You gus might want to check out this thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/1840414-stanford-class-of-2020-deferred-thread.html
Current freshman at Stanford here! I got deferred last year. Let me tell you, it sucked. I almost wished I had just gotten rejected so that I wouldn’t have to agonizingly wait 3 more months.
But I eventually got in! They say the acceptance rate for deferred applicants is 15% (although I read a source that suggested it’s actually 24%). That’s definitely better than the <5% for RD. You have good chances.
Make the most of your update form. I don’t know if they still have the question about what senior year class you’re enjoying most, but if they do, be honest. Don’t be afraid to say you’re loving photography. Don’t try to impress them and say that multivariable calc is your favorite class this year (unless it actually is!).
Good luck to all of you. Seriously, whether or not you get in, wherever you end up, you can thrive. Most of the things I love about my time at Stanford so far are just college things, not specific to Stanford. You can have the college experience pretty much anywhere

I shared this in the discussion thread, but it moved awfully fast.
Scroll down to page 17 to see Dean Shaw’s comments. If memory serves me correctly, 563 students were deferred in this year - this is for the high school class of 2014, college class of 2018 (my ds’s year). 145 were eventually accepted in RD out of the 563, which is 25% and change. This is the only time I have ever seen such detailed info. Also of note, last year the number of deferred students was roughly EQUAL to the number accepted students in REA. Prior to last year, more students had been accepted than deferred. So, all I can tell you is for the application cycle three years ago, around 25% went from deferred to accepted. No idea what the numbers and percentages have been since then.
I feel for you. A deferral makes for a very long winter. Hang in there.
I’m guessing that since more and more people apply each year, the deferred acceptance rate will be less than 25%. Regardless, all of us still have a fighting chance.
@fgcollegehopeful - probably so. Just trying to provide some fairly recent data that is more than anecdotal.
@hoggirl Thank you!!
