OFFICIAL Stanford University REA Decisions - Class of 2014

Please refrain from posting any non-decision posts in this thread.
This thread is meant to be kept clean and clutter-free. All discussion and comments should go into the Official Discussion Thread.
I will be requesting that a mod sticky this so that it does not slip off the page, so don't worry about that. I do not expect this thread to have any replies until December 15th, unless decisions are released a bit earlier.
Thank you!

That being said...
Looks like the weeks of wait are finally drawing to a close, and, with them, the curtains of our applied anxiety.

Though it is inevitable that many of us will find ourselves devastatingly disappointed and disillusioned this coming Tuesday--myself very much included--it is important to remember that no college, or its decision, can either validate or negate the accomplishments you have worked to attain in your life. Those are yours, yours alone, and no person or thing can change the value of what you've done.
Whether you attend Stanford University or any other school, you can still go on to accomplish brilliant and amazing things. If that is your intention, the institution you attend cannot hold you back from achieving so.
After all, many of the greatest thinkers and inventors went to supposedly "no-name" schools.
Yes, it's incredibly easy to get swept up in the excitement of decisions; but, don't forget the real purpose and value of college education: a vessel for your own achievement, not the school's.

Still, though. Go Cardinals!! Yeah Stanford! Woo! (Cal sucks!!...)

So, this is the decisions thread. As I said before:
...Every year, CC has a decisions thread created so that future senior classes can see the previous year's applicants and gauge their own standing. We need those threads to be accurate, so that their hearts can be filled with hope and/or despair in appropriate amounts.
Besides, it's just courtesy. Don't be rude; post your stats!
Here is the format! It comes in magical disappearing code, so you can just copy and paste, and it will show up perfectly. It's scratch-and-sniff mysticism! Try it!
(No, I won't pay for damage to your monitor.)
I suggest filling it out in advance so that, on decisions day, you can post yours quicker.

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: 7, about being on a reality show and how it made me realize the difference between maudlin fluff and tragic catharsis, well-written but confusing[/li][] EC Short Answer: 9, about Speech and Debate Club changing me, very emotional and, I thought, one of my better-written pieces
[] Intellectual Vitality: 8, about writing my first play, VERY passionate, to a slightly insane extent
[] Roommate: 9, about my quirks, mostly a run-down of all the facts I wanted my roommate/admissions officer to know about me, funny
[] Why Stanford: 7, just a straightforward statement of my love for interdisciplinary studies and Stanford’s focus on those studies, very sincere but not anything special
[] Other: N/A[/ul]
[] Teacher Recommendation #1: 9, from my two-time English teacher, I read it, extremely positive, listed all my ECs, said everything that it needed to, “best I’ve seen in my long career,” did have a few mistakes about my accomplishments that might make it seem like I lied to her?
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: 8, from my three-time math and one-time physics teacher, we’re very close, he thinks I’m a genius, but he didn’t offer to let me read it, even though he had an opportunity to do so, and he wrote it at the last second
[] Counselor Rec: 9, “smartest student I’ve seen in 16 years of counseling”
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: N/A
[] Art Supplement: N/A
[] Date Submitted App: 10/31/09

[] School Type: public, very low-achieving, my AP/ACT/SAT scores are totally unheard of
[] Ethnicity: Aleutian/Argentinean/Jewish
[] Gender: M
[] Income Bracket: below poverty level
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): poor, gay, URM, passion for writing (self-published), reality show contestant?[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: super-URM, test scores, rank, passion for writing
[] Weaknesses: unexceptional ECs, low-achieving school, confusing Common App essay, no major awards
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: high-scoring minority, passion for writing in essays
[] What would you have done differently?: proofread my Common App essay more thoroughly to make sure I didn’t leave out any important information, signed up for clubs earlier on and fought harder when they got cut[/ul]

[] Senior Year Course Load: Hardest offered. (8 classes, 2 AP (5 exams), 3 Honors, 3 Normal (1 Online))
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing “major;” but, I’ve won 1st place in two competitions. S-111a Programming Competition (Class of 80 HS, Undergrad, and Grad Students), and JU SME Interdisciplinary Competition (Math, Biology, Computer Science; all local schools participated, including a very prestigious college prep HS)[/ul]

Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parentheses): Professional Illustrator/Designer (Personal Business), Student Government (2 yrs President (current), 1 as Secretary), Employed on private illustration/computer game making contract with Grammy-nominated music education business (what a mouthful), ACTS club member, NHS member, Art History Club member, Technology advising/inspection/repair community service/work.
[] Job/Work Experience: Worked with mom to expand her cleaning business, previously mentioned employer and private business.
[] Volunteer/Community service: What’s that? (Haha I’ve done a fair amount through Student Gov/NHS/ACTS club/etc.)
[] Summer Activities: Working with mum, Harvard SSP a few years prior, various things.[/ul]

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: About… Hmm… Cultural expectations, I guess. One way of putting it. Started with a raunchy description of a peanut butter sandwhich. I’d give it a 6 or so. Didn’t like it in retrospect, just 'cause it was too long, not edited enough. Still, had my funny side.[/li][] EC Short Answer: About drawing. I’d say a 7; I liked it.
[] Intellectual Vitality: About my experience when I first learned of my mother’s alcoholism/drug addiction while my father was currently in jail. I’d give this one a 9 or 10. Very well-written.
[] Roommate: Blech, about who I once was and how I decided to change myself. Maybe a 7 or 8.
[] Why Stanford: Cute stylistically, not sure if it had enough substance to back it up. Maybe a 6 or 7.
[] Other: None for me.[/ul]
[] Teacher Recommendation #1: English teacher… Probably a 10. She’s known me since 7th or 8th grade and adores me indescribably (despite being the most terrifying and harsh teacher in the school). Really, really loves me.
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: Humanities teacher. Probably a 7 or 8. Wonderful, wonderful woman. Known me since freshman year and has seen me change a lot. Had her for speech, which I wouldn’t be surprised if she mentioned… Speech-giving is one of my greatest strengths.
[] Counselor Rec: Dunno. Somewhere between 6-8. Loves me, but not sure she knows me too well in comparison. Great lady, very nice, very supportive… Payed for my app fees out of her own pocket. (My family doesn’t have much money anymore, and my dad just lost his job. Mom’s income is about $2,000/yr, but luckily dad just got another job offer.)
[] Additional Rec: None.
[] Interview: None.
[] Art Supplement: None, because my art is so stylized, not traditional like most art portfolios ask for.
Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: 30 minutes before the deadline, hahaha.
[] State (if domestic applicant): FL
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Private Religious
[] Ethnicity: White bread through and through.
[] Gender: Female (Despite you guys’ objections.)
[] Income Bracket: With child support (divorce in 2008), it’s about $54,000 I think.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Uhhh Idunno.[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Unique life story, long-lasting school reputation (i.e. reccomendations), good writing skills.
[] Weaknesses: ECs, awards, lack of opportunities in tiny school, general unimpressiveness, yah.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Not good enough.
[] What would you have done differently?: Main essay needed more revision, maybe some better ECs.[/ul]
