Official Swarthmore ED Results

Congratulations Elizabeth! I'm sooooo happy for you! I knew you'd get in!

Congratulations, Elizabeth! I've been sittin' here all day waiting to hear the good news from you. I was pretty sure you'd get in, but there's nothing like having your mitts on that letter, huh?

My daughter comes home tomorrow. I'll be sure and tell her that there will be be some bluegrass music on campus next year. I've been giving her grief over the fact that two of her best friends in the dorm listen to country music. I even slipped a Dwight Yoakam MP3 on her hard drive during fall break -- a twangy Telecaster version of The Grateful Dead's Truckin'.

I am wondering if Swarthmore publishes any news release on the ED process and statistics. Some colleges and universities do. Just curious.

Congratulations, Elizabeth and everyone else!!!

Achat:

There will be articles in the Daily Gazette and the Phoenix, but the timing didn't work out since both quit publishing for the semester last week.

Last year, the Daily Gazette ran an interview with Jim Bock the week before Thanksgiving with some very good insight to what his office was looking for in Early Decision apps. It was in this interview that he chose to highlight the Why Swat essay answer as being particularly important. Reading that interview (knowing that my daughter's app was in the pile) was the first time that I really thought my daughter would get accepted.

oh, congrats Elizabeth! Guys, we're all going to see each other next fall at Swarthmore! I am so thrilled!

p.s. My best friend got into Macalester! It's just an awesome week....

Hey Elizabeth:

I glanced at your live journal. Listening to "Tales of Brave Ulysses" and throwing in a sly Dylan reference ("sink like a stone"). You are going to love Swarthmore!

The music tastes on my daughter's hall run heavily towards eclectic classic rock. Among the CDs my daughter put on her hard drive at break were Dylan's "Greatest Hits", Volumes 1, 2, & 3. Swarthmore is corrupting her, I tell ya.

My wife and I got a chuckle out of it when we went to see Dylan perform a couple of weeks ago on his tour of college campuses.

I intend to start my bluegrass movement as soon as I get there...maybe starting small by rising through the ranks (if there are such things) of contra-dance musicians, and then leading a full-fledged coup with banjos and all : )

Is there a yahoo group or anything for class of '09 yet?

I hope I find my way onto a hall that is into classic rock, although my dad might feel the need to move in (he's already signed up to post here after going through this week, haha)...

You'll get an e-mail about an unofficial Yahoo site before we'll know. But, I wouldn't look for it until maybe January. Swarthmore is in pretty much full panic mode this week with papers and exams, then it's deserted until mid-January.

The "official" Swarthmore admitted students site won't up and running until they have all the April admits to entice into the lair.

As for a classic rock hall, it probably beats the alternatives. Last year, Bali chants seemed to be popular, at least among kids in the Lodges. God only knows what they listen to at Mary Lyons! (just kidding)

M-L is sooooo weird. ;)

I'm hoping some of you will stick around in the summer to answer queries from the Swarthmore class of 2010 and not abandon this board. That's what happened last summer. Otherwise, it will be parents like us trying to answer questions (sometimes, I don't know the answers and take educated guesses, some of which are wrong).
