***Official Thread for 2014 BSMD applicants***

Congrats to Patrick IMGDAD.

@texaspg, thank you. Where have you been?

@IMGDAD congrats!! Good luck to your son on the interview! From last year’s group, I heard the first one with SBU isn’t too bad, but the medical one with GW needs more preparation so I’m sure the majority of us will get through! :)

And guys, i thought the deadline for the SBU/GW program was Nov. 1st? That’s when I submitted all of my stuff by and I got a confirmation that my app was received (like once) and then basically heard nothing else from them again. I guess notifications should be coming soooon…

Been here IMGDAD. :)

Are the two interviews separate for SBU and GW or on the same day? Why does SBU need an interview?

Two separate interviews. After the first interview, SBU will forward its picks of 20 students to GW for the medical school interview, when GW will offer a plce to 15-20 of these students.

So very few or none are screened out during the GW interview?

@GreenSage, thank you. So you have not heard yet? Hopefully my son will meet you at the interview. The four interview dates are Jan 8, 19, 25, and 26.

Either that or that SBU is very good at picking the right candidates for GW, or that there is a commitment for GW to accept at least 15 students and so GW just have to pick the 15-20 from the small pool provided to them by SBU!

No, I haven’t gotten anything from them yet :frowning: I might call Rob Malaspina on Monday to see if everything is ok…
Which date does your son have the interview? Do we have a choice in this or is it one of those assigned things?

@GreenSage, no, you don’t get to choose the date. The email said that you will indicate your acceptance of the offer when you receive the letter that SBU has sent to you and then they will arrange a date once they receive your acceptance letter.

@IMGDAD, oh okay! So they’re mailing a letter too. I’ll look out for that then, thanks!

The problem with college application is that it is such a hit and miss thing. For example, my son was told by Kean University that he would not be eligible to apply for the Kean/Drexel program, after he submitted his application, because we do not reside in NJ or PA. Then he received an email from Kean yesterday asking why he had not submitted his Drexel supplemental. When he got back to them that because he was not eligible to apply, he was told that he was in fact eligible and you do not need to be a resident of NJ or PA. Even though the closing date was December 1, the closing date was extended to Dec 15 for him. Also, he has noticed that some colleges that he has applied to insisted that they have not received some of his documents, yet all the documents were sent in the same envelops. Scarely eh?

oh jeez that’s such a terrifying mess  It’s amazing how disorganized colleges can be. The only program that I know of that restricts its applicants by residence is the Monmouth/Drexel one. But it also only accepts a max of 5 students into the program so it’s not a huge deal. So is your son now applying to the Kean/Drexel program too?

Yes, we managed to get his application, including the Letter of Recommendation, in yesterday. He was allowed to email it to them and his recommender emailed the letter to the school too.

That’s good!
Kean’s Dean (of the program i think) called a few days ago pretty late at night when I was about to fall asleep, saying congratulations blah blah blah and all i could say was “uhh… what?.. oka y yes, thanks. email me. bye”. I sounded like such an idiot. Mum was not pleased lol

Just got my interview notification from penn state bs/md today :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@asapaj5, congrats and good luck. It is a good program. Jefferson is very impressive and situated close to UPenn, in the very nice part of Philadelphia. My son did not apply because my daughter applied last year and she did not get any interview and she had better stats than my son!

@GreenSage, so have you got an interview date for Kean yet? I understand that you will first be invited for interview at Kean and then if you are chosen, you will proceed to Drexel interview.

@IMGDAD, I didn’t get an interview date for Kean yet. I believe they are finishing up with the process of sorting out qualified applicants from others. The guy who called did email me though offering to set up a date to visit, tour facilities, and meet current students in the program and faculty involved and himself. I have yet to talk to my parents to set up a date for that. I’m sure the interviews will be coming soon enough!

thanks @IMGDAD. Im looking forward to the interview
