Anyone know OOS interviews/acceptances for Penn State? I know 25 students are selected for the program, but I’m not sure how many OOS students there are and how many interviews are given.

@Dildil do you know when we should hear from drexel/drexel?

@Ducktective, Submitted my Penn state app 10/22.

Just got my invitation to interview for Penn State/Jefferson in the mail today!!! This is probably the happiest weekend I’ve had lol

Does anyone know what happens if you apply to the same program through different UGs?
For ex I applied to the NJMS program through 4 different programs. It’s really confusing. Does it increase my chance or not really, since it’s the same med school?
Thanks!

@parentofs, You should know by now that 143/59/5 does not mean that only 5 students were admitted into the program, rather it means that 5 students chose to attend this program. Even Harvard does not have 100 % yield; it’s more like 82%,

Thank you @upstream. Even if it is 82%, we are talking about 10 OOS acceptances out of 59. That leaves 49 folks to waste their energy, effort, time and money.

Earlier I thought it was 50% chance if we attend the interview. Now, based on yr comments, it appears success rate is only 18%.

@swagtothemax @Deriveme and others: for Penn State program,

most current data: in state 66/11/7 oos 444/95/25

SAT total was 2274.

2011-12 data: in state 98/23/9 oos 551/73/21

@in2llect, that’s good news congrats!. Looks like they are picking up on applications. when is your interview date?

@mdiqbal71 - thanks, it doesn’t specify a date on the later but says they will be following up with dates soon.

also for any people interviewing for HPME - apparently the rsvp portal will be fixed on Monday

@parentofs - 18 % is a quite good number and $5000 is not bad compared to what pre-meds have go through these days, especially if they are Asians. And you are assuming you will get 5 interviews. The acceptance rates for Asian students with MCAT score of 32 with following GPAs are: 4.0(75.4%) 3.75(59%) 3.5(41.3%) 3.35(26.8%)
and with MCAT score of 29: 4.0(52.1%) 3.75(35.8%) 3.5(20.4%) 3.35(13.9%)

You also need to consider that many pre-meds need to take extra year or two or even three after graduating from their colleges to strengthen their applications before they even apply to med schools. Many students apply to more than 30 medical schools during one cycle. Think about the cost that’s involved here, along with the cost of time to study MCAT, completing supplemental and etc. One of my patients had to spend extra year for research before she got into a mid tier med school even though she received a degree from a “high ivy.” Another patient needed three years to get into a D.O. program after graduating from JHU with 3.8 GPA. Finally, an ivy graduate with 3.9 GPA with 36 on the MCAT got into a mid tier med school off the waiting list after two attempts. There are more stories… Therefore, our son bypassed 4 top 20 schools to attend a BS/MD program.

@faymer @swagtothemax the stat 400/80/20 is for all 8 programs combined with NJMC, not just for TNC/NJMC. I don’t have the breakdown data of each program that is combined with NJMC.

@upstream So would you say that your chances are increased if you applied to several of the NJMC programs?

Also, has anyone else had trouble uploading their Villanova Supplement? I am able to “Choose File” but when I attempt to “Proceed” it says “Your application could not be uploaded, Please try again.”

@swagtothemax, please disregard my comment on NJMC.

Rutgers NJMC data: 178 first year matriculates with 25 from special program.

Received HPME interview notification yesterday, today received MIT acceptance letter…

@HolmesOG congrats on MIT!!! i guess now it depends if you want that over the med school guarantee and 7 years, it’s two really great options!

Also, I submitted my Penn State application on the 30th and it still says “We are reviewing your credentials for the Accelerated Premedical-Medical program. A decision will be available here as soon as one is made.” i’m starting to get a little paranoid

@upstream : Well said. Nicely explained. Thank you.

Regarding Miami HPME (have only seen a few posts), for those that did not get an interview, is it automatic to be invited to Stamps/Singer scholarship weekend? Even though I understand the stats, I’m surprised I didn’t get an interview and not sure what to make of the invite.

@myfirstrun hey, join the club! Hopefully we’ll get invites to the other interviews. Where else are you applying?
