***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

anyone get NJIT merit scholarship here? is it good sign or not for the chance of stepping forward to medical school?

when will we hear the news from NJMS after NJIT interview?

@mangoes9 : Appears Drxl/Drxl is like Penn State. They are telling decisions in batches. My S sees similar to what @faymer says. We are OOS and applied on the last day. I am not sure why these colleges announce in different times. No clue.

Others: Drxl COA is almost $70K. I thought private schools are in $60K range. Drxl beats everyone in this category. Even if we get $30K free money, still $40K is our share.

I got an email notication from UMKC saying that i got selected for an interview.

@luceatluxvestra‌ Congratulations! What are your stats?

Hi,

I got my invite to interview at UMKC medical school for 6-year BA/MD program

I am oos

4.0 unweighted, 36 ACT, 2480 SAT, 800 SAT 2 Chemistry, 2 publications for my medical research.

Any others from CA going to interview?

I heard there were fewer applicants this year, anyone else heard the same?

@HopingMD‌ you mean 2380 or 2400 right? Hahaha 2480 = automatic acceptance.
What other programs are you applying to?

When did you apply - Before Oct 15th (early) or after Oct 15 (regular)

HopingMd - You have very good credentials. You will get anywhere. Are you from Northern California

Am i the only one who did not get an interview notication yet? Anyone else in my pool? I applied on Oct 14 i think. IM EXCITED TO FIND OUT! :slight_smile: May God help us all

When did I apply?

I got my application to UMKC and then the Medical School App and references, transcript and test scores were all in before October 1, 2014; so I am with the October 15 group.

Am I from northen CA?

No, I am in San Diego. And thank you for the kind words.

I have heard the inerview is very relaxed, the medical school knows that we are just high school seniors, not undergrad seniors; so don’t worry about how other medical schools interview, I was told to relax and be professional, no one wants an over excited doctor.

I was also told that UMKC had fewer applicants this year, and that grades and scores were not as high as before for the group as a whole.

Hpe to meet some of you in Kansas City during the interview process : )

Yes, 2380, alsas I am only a 2 finger typist, so I am prone to typos. 2380 SAT

Does anyone know when AMC sends out interview invites, or rejections? I applied via Union.
Thanks!!

@shyamalee‌

Thanks! I’m really excited.

Out of state - NorCal

34 ACT, 4.0 unweighted GPA with AP and IB classes, Bio M SAT Subject 780, Math II 800.

2 internships at hospital ERs and ORs, was able to perform CPR, bag bodies, pretty much worked as a CNA/EMT. Plus some job shadowing and research experience.

But mostly i think what makes me stand out is i have an interesting life story - i speak 5 languages and grew up abroad.

@HopingMD‌ @luceatluxvestra‌ incredible stats!

@Luceatluxvestra - sorry but I cannot believe you! You are a high school student so you are not a high school graduate, you have no diploma, no college degree, and you have done ER "Internships where you actually performed CPR and touched dead bodies, you were “basicly an EMT”.

The trouble is that is all impossible!

That would be illegal in every state, and for sure California - I know because I live here in California. No hospital is going to let a kid - someone who does not have a diploma, let alone a medical license (all medical people who touch patients have to be licensed or certification - a kid still in high school cannot be licensed and certified), touch patients! No way a kid with no formal certification is going to be allowed to perform CPR!!! My dad is a lawyer and my mom an MD, they both say what you are claiming is totally illegal. I am certified by the Red Cross as trained in CPR, but no hospital or medical facility is going to allow me to perform CPR, let alone touch a patient. And besides, how would the hospital know when CPR was needed, what did they do make a Code Blue and call you to rush over from school and perform CPR?

Same problem is with bagging bodies - there are many issues wth touching bodies - legal issues and well as medical issues, and there is no way some high school kid is touching live patients, giving CPR, bagging bodies and acting as a “CNA/EMT.” Perhaps in your shadowing you acted as the doctor and performed heart surgery or diagnosed patients.

Everyone, let’s stay real, and enough of the BS.

@HopingMD I’ve assisted in procedures, performed exams, took patient histories, and drawn blood from patients on a mission trip and took blood samples, swabs, etc. while doing research. You could get CITI certified or go to a place where many of these things is not illegal

I was an EMT last year as a junior. I have gone to numerous hospitals and have performed patient procedures, shadowed doctors and helped nurses treat patients. On top if this I was able to go to my local EMS station and rack up 150 hours on the ambulance treating patients. Its highly plausable, it just depends on how motivated one is and knowing how to interact with medical personnel @HopingMD‌

@HopingMD‌
I assure you, none of what i said was bs. I am CPR certified and also was insured during my internship. Plus i was always under the supervision of someone working at the hospital. But yes, i was allowed to perform CPR (just chest compressions because the respiratory therapist took care of the airway), bag bodies, watch procedures such as angiograms, clean wounds, take vitals, and some other things. And no the hospital didnt ever call me over just for CPR. If i was there doing hours for my internship and a patient came in who was under CPR, then my supervisor would often tell me to do chest compressions. I’m part of an academy at my school that has agreements with local hospitals to let us do these kinds of things - shadow and intern. I’m actually quite insulted that you would think i’d lie. I am not lying about anything that i posted. @shyamalee‌ asked for my stats and i gave them.
Honestly i have never considered myself a great BS/MD candidate because i dont have the greatest stats, so i am just happy to be considered at all. Plus you guys all seem really amazing and its been awesome having this place as a resource. So thank you.
@shyamalee‌, thank you!

@Krish400158‌, @MedDude‌
Those are some awesome things you’ve gotten to do! Congrats and keep on working at it.
