***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

@jalebi2187 email

RPI/Albany program is one of the oldest BS/MD program in the country. It has produced many well known physician scientists, such as Dr. Jeffrey Friedman, the discoverer of Leptin and Dr. Gary Gottlieb, president of Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Most of the students who successfully complete the BS/MD program do well in terms of residency placements. Many of students in the program turn down Ivies and other quality colleges to attend this program and eventually receive a MD degree with distinction in research. Almost all students receive merit scholarships in the program, ranging from $15K to $25K annually for three years. You have to remember that maintaining 3.5 for each semester at RPI does require consistent effort since this school is known for grade deflation.

@parentofs For GWU/GWU program, only 28 students were invited for the interview out of 700 applicants. 5 students eventually enrolled in the program.

@parentofs If I have to guess the logic behind selecting 28 interviewees by the “adcom,” perhaps demonstrated interest might play role here. Good Luck!

Has anyone gotten anything from NJIT-NJMS for their 7 year program besides the letter saying that the application was forwarded to the med schools?

@Fischerdude97 this was for Rutgers-Newark/NJMS.

I’m on my phone so I can’t post all my stats right now, but I’ll give you some of the relevant info:

SAT (CR+M): 1520
LOR: good (i think)
Essays: good
EC’s: president of a school club, 150+ hours hospital volunteering, 100+ hours other community service, physician shadowing over the summer

@luceatluxvestra‌ Wow you got an interview already? When did you receive your supplemental? I submitted mine a bit more than a month ago.
Waiting eagerly for some type of response from AMC!!!

Btw, does anyone know when TCNJ begins contacting applicants? I applied a longg time ago and I was just wondering when they begin their UG interviewing?

@upstream . Thx. I like GW/GW 28 invites. This way not many will get disappointed after spent their time. money, effort for making the trip to GW interview. Thanks to GW for inviting lower #s instead of larger pool.

@shyamalee I’m a current senior, and I received the RPI Medal in my junior year. I applied to RPI/AMC program. If admitted, I am guaranteed $15K per year at RPI, totaling $45K.

@jb9832 I am a senior and I applied to Stevens/NJMS program. I had my interview in the beginning of December. You need to go on the Steven’s website and schedule it yourself.

Also, something you may want to know that I found out during my interview- acceptance to NJMS is not guaranteed through Stevens. They forward on all students who complete the Stevens requirements, but not all are accepted into NJMS.

@peanut7 I was told the same thing during my Stevens interivew
but do you think that the interviewers might be a little incorrect or unaware? It says nowhere online, on Stevens’ page nor NJMS, that it isn’t a guarantee program.

just received phone interview for TCNJ/NJMS through call and confirmation email.

@FischerDude97‌ I hope we do see each other there, that would be great!! I had my NJIT interview over the phone in Nov, and I recently got a letter from NJIT a few weeks ago saying that my file had been forwarded to NJMS. I believe interviews are in March, and we’ll probably schedule them in Feb.

Here are my stats:

Ethnicity and Gender: Indian female
Location: NY

Class rank: 15/360 (competitive public high school)
Weighted GPA: 4.09

SAT:
Math: 700, CR: 770, Writing: 730, Total: 2200 (single sitting, superscored)

ACT:
33, composite, took it two times. However, it is a 34 superscored

SAT Subject Tests:
Math II: 730
Biology: 680
World History: 770

AP Scores:
5 on us history, Lang,
4 on world history, stats, bio

Senior year AP schedule:
Physics I, Calc AB, Literature, European History, Art History, spanish

EC’s: definitely my strong suit, TONS of involvement in clubs, major leadership positions in most, several honor societies, genetic research, mentoring programs, science O, offered free tutoring, etc.

Hooks: I have spent a very large portion of time dedicated towards research at a prestigious medical school, entered in Intel, siemens, etc. Also, I have a part-time job working as a tutor at an educational center for young children. I was able to talk about both of these things in a lot of supplement essays, which clearly demonstrated my passion

While I may not have AMAZING scores, I believe I am a strong writer and I have an exceptional resume. Plus, my letters of rec were wonderful

@‌faymer Im not sure because I can’t find anything saying that either. I want to call and find out more since it’s one of my top schools, but I’m not even sure who I would ask to talk to

@jalebi2187‌ u seem like a very competitive applicant. Good luck! Its lucky u r from NY. I’m from TX so SBU is pretty far from me. I think we should know in early Feb if we have been invited for the interview at GWU and by early March if we’ve been accepted.

I don’t know if any of you will know the answer to this probably common question, but if I applied to multiple programs associated with NJMS (I did Rutgers, Stevens, TCNJ, and NJIT), and I get called for interviews with NJMS, is there one interview for all? Like for example, I found out that my file was forwarded to NJMS by NJIT. If they schedule me an interview with NJMS, will I get any more interviews at all regardless of my caliber with any of the other schools? Or would they use the one interview? It would seem a bit strange to have an interview with the same group of people more than once.

@valarmorghulis‌ Thank you! Yeah I think I’ll do the same.

@OGBaller5‌ Is your interview with NJMS or just with Rutgers?

@FischerDude97‌ I haven’t personally received anything other than the letter saying that my file was forwarded.

@faymer‌ I just got a call today from TCNJ about a 7 year med interview today. I’m sure you’ll hear back soon!

@peanut7‌ I scheduled an interview today, thanks! Also, about RPI, do you think that Rensselaer Medalists get priority in the RPI/AMC admissions?

@faymer‌ @peanut7‌ About how not everyone is accepted to NJMS from Stevens, I’m assuming that not everyone that applies to the program will be admitted? Or is that their way of saying that it really isn’t a 7 year med program, but just a program that has strong ties with NJMS and will recommend their undergrads to NJMS should they “deserve” it?

@hopefulbsmd‌ I got a call from TCNJ too! My interview is actually this Wednesday. When’s yours?

@FischerDude97‌ Thanks so much, you seem like a very competitive one yourself! Wow, I can’t believe you’re flying in all the way from Texas! Did you get invited to interview with GW through the GW/GW program? Unfortunately, I didn’t
:frowning: and I’m wondering if maybe that was because I also applied to SBU/GW? Did that have anything to do with it?

Has anyone heard anything from UCONN??

UAB EMSAP interview notifications have gone out. Our director has invited 36 people for our Early Medical School Acceptance Program and 2 for our Early Dental School Acceptance Program. There were about 200 applications, so it was a competitive year for our EMSAP program. The average ACT score was 33.
