***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

Also, how prestigious is AMC? I like RPI very much, but do not have a ton of info on Albany. Any information or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance

@jalebi2187‌

I applied to RPI,Union,Siena/AMC
 Personally for me Siena is my first choice
I really really hope I get in.I emailed,interviewed,called,visited Campus,met the director,explicitly said I would accept immediately,almost like an ED commitment
(LOL)

RPI though is a great college for Engineering
(Has real world value). A friend who attends there told me
 That being said AMC is a second tier school probably comparable with New York Medical College.(They seem to be very similar) I did an internship at NYMC and the professor who also worked at Cornell for 30+ yrs said “NYMC was in the top third of Medical colleges.” So AMC is probably respected
 but not like the WOW factor
 I think it is a tad bit lower than Stony Brook’s Medical Center

But hey No MCAT and I heard some of the people in the program take the MCAT anyway just to see because they’re smart anyway
 They have guaranteed admission in to AMC. Some programs do not allow this, I think the GWU one is one

@shyamalee‌
Which one do you prefer out of the three?(Siena,RPI or Union)

:stuck_out_tongue:

@lifeishard I hope you get in, good luck!! I was considering siena bc they gave me a free app, but I liked RPI more! Thank you so much for the response!

open question for everyone: prestigious undergrad (Georgetown, school of nursing and health studies) VS program at SBU/GW, NJIT/NJMS, RPI/AMC, Rutgers, etc.? I would clearly pick a program such as Rice/Baylor, Case Western’s PPSP, or Brown’s PLME if I got in, although realistically I believe those are reaches for me.

How are the reputations of AMC, NJMS, and Stony Brook?
Thanks in advance!

AMC is ranked #106 based on NIH funding (research). They do offer a MD/PhD program and older threads reference their affinity for students with research interests.

@ddrew97 okay, thanks so much for the info!

@jalebi2187‌ It depends on how certain you are that you want to pursue medicine and how much you value the medical school guarantee. And I know the question wasn’t posed to me, but Siena all the way!!

@lifeishard RPI haha :slight_smile:

Did anyone here receive the Rensselaer Medal Scholarship their junior year? Is it true that you only receive a minimum $45k scholarship if you apply to the Physician-Scientist Program, are accepted, and enroll at the school?

@Deriveme‌ Thanks! I am very certain that I want to pursue medicine, but I want to make sure that I do enjoy my undergrad experience. I think the guarantee is significant to me, and it’ll come down to which programs I’m accepted into!
Can anyone compare SBU/GW versus NJIT/NJMS?

I’m interviewing for SBU/GW 1/24, anyone else? :slight_smile:

For those who applied to Penn state/Jefferson, did you also apply to Penn’s honors college?

@jalebi2187‌
I have also applied for both NJIT-NJMS and SBU-GW. Have u gotten the interview notification to go to NJMS yet? If so, was it through mail or email? I have already had my honors college interview at NJIT and was wondering when the NJMS interview notification would come out. Also, would u mind posting ur stats? Thanks.
And I’m also interviewing at SBU on 1/24. Maybe we’ll see each other there! lol

@Deriveme - I only applied to the Accelerated Program. I started filling out the Honors College app and realized that these are mutually exclusive - while you can apply to both & you can only admitted to one.

On their website it says that the honors college money cannot be used for the BSMD program but I can’t find where it says that you can only be admitted to one program. Help? @ddrew97‌

Does anyone know how many University of Pittsburgh Chancellor’s scholarships (full tuition, rooms and board, meal plan) are given out each year? If its only 3-5 then I’m not sure if its worth the effort to apply.

@Deriveme From the PSU Schreyer’s website,

Accelerated Pre-Med/Medical Program
You may apply to both but would have to choose one over the other if accepted to both.

@Ducktective‌ thank you for the info!

I am currently in the PSU/Jeff program and my roommate as well. He applied to the Honors college and got in, and due to a glitch he was receiving the scholarship. Not for long though. They took it away from him after the first semester. So no you cannot be in both and no you cannot receive the scholarship money.

For those asking about NJIT’s second stage, they send out letters saying that the file has been forwarded to the med school.

I was wondering, is RPI just slow with sending out notification about the RPI/AMC program??

Have any of you applied to Stevens/NJMS? It says on my application portal that an accelerated med program interview is still remaining (hasn’t been received) but I haven’t received any notification about one
 do I need to schedule one on my own?

@jb9832‌
I applied to RPI/AMC as well and I sent them an email last week just to make sure I didn’t miss communication from them, and I was told my file is still under consideration.
So I think you’re fine as well :slight_smile:

Got invited to interview at Rutgers-Newark for the BA/MD today!
Has anybody had this interview already? What is it like, I’m not too sure what to prepare for
?

Thanks!

@OGBaller5‌ how were you notified? email or mail? thanks!
