Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. Please bear with me as I learn the etiquettes of the forum.
My D is a junior now and her SAT score is 2350+ and SAT Subject tests in Match ii and Chem are 750+. Practice ACT is 35. So far she took 8 AP courses with 4+ score and is in the top 10% at one of the top 30 high schools in the country. Volunteered for about 400+ hours of which 300 hours is with autistic kids. She has few additional EC activities worth mentioning.
She wants to do 7/8 medicine BS/MD program. Can you please kindly suggest which programs are a good idea. She will be applying to Texas combined programs. We are not sure which OOS programs are reach for her.
I had my interview with Stevens today and the program is a guaranteed program. There was some confusion about it but thereâs a guaranteed seat in UMDNJ-NJMS after the three years at Stevens.
Congrats to all who are invited to EMSAP interviews and Good luck. No email for us, it seems like my son did not get an interview. We are waiting for the snail mail rejection to arrive. We are OOS.
@HoustonTxDadâ , You daughter has excellent stats. She is highly competitive. However, besides apply to high tier programs like PLME, HPME, BU SMED, Penn State, Wahsu etc. She should apply to low tiers as well, if she is sure that this what she would like to do.
BTW, what is her cumulative GPA as of now ?
@Dildil Thank you!! We are concerned about PLME, HPME, BU, Washu costs⊠not sure we can do 8 years of $50 *8 = $400k just for fees. But we will try to apply to some of them.
Her GPA is 4.54 (PAP/AP courses are rated on 5 scale and non-ap are 4 scale)
My son did not get invited to the EMSAP program either even though he has excellent credentials. I wonder if it is based on the undergraduate major selection. He selected Biology. What did your daughter select?
@GoodDoctorâ I honestly believe it is luck. I have received interviews at UAB (to answer your question I selected a biomedical engineering major) and Miami, but didnât even make it to the supplemental essay round of GW/GW. In my opinion these three programs are relatively equal in ranking, so I think some colleges just prefer one student over an other for purely subjective reasons (or maybe how they are feeling that day?).
@GoodDoctorâ I selected biology for my major too and was disappointed not to receive an interview from EMSAP.
@sm577501â On last years results thread, there was one girl who was rejected into every single lower tier program she applied toâŠand accepted into PLME and HPME, arguably the two hardest programs to get into. It really is luck: everyone on this thread likely has super high scores and GPA, volunteer, research, shadowing and impressive leadership credentials. Maybe the program already chose enough applicants for a certain major or maybe they were really looking for a certain characteristic or quality in the essays. You never know.
@tdkeerthiâ @ThreeRIversâ Did yâalls admission status change? Also if we applied to the program and donât get forwarded does that mean weâve been rejected from the university?
@veritas126â , you are right. Actually my daughter also applied to these programs. She did not get interviews at any except UMKC [ Later, she never got off the waitlist - OOS]. However, she got into PLME. She is currently going there and is very happy.
It is much more than scores/grades/research. This cycle I was deferred ED (no interviews) from NEOMED (in-state) at all 3 consortium schools. Needless to say I was VERY nervous after those 3 deferrals came in. But then I was accepted ED a month later into the PLME. I had to withdraw all of my other BS/MD applications when I accepted my PLME spot, so I canât speak to any of the others. Everyone keep your heads up! You really never know!
wow! I am kinda in the same position as you were. I have a decent ACT (31t) and my ap scores suck (only some 4âs and 3âs) but not like some other kids have (33+). Itâs tough because I have a passion to pursue medicine but sometimes itâs hard to stick out with low scores. I applied RD to brown so hopefully everything works out! Im praying!
I got deferred from neomed as well (oos) for all three schools. I was sad but i know God has a plan for all of us.
