***Official Thread for 2015 BSMD applicants***

I got a response from the PSU admissions team. the word limits are 250/500/250.

Thank you.

Hello CCā€™ers,

For GWā€™s BA/MD program, does it make sense to choose the option of going to Honors program. If I do not select the option of going to Honors program, does it reflect negatively on my application.

Please share your experiences on this selection.

Thank you.

How many international students applying for BS/MD programs? I know it is almost impossible for us to get in, but still, keeping the fingers crossed!

@theanacondaā€Œ There is a box I can check in the application that allows me to not ED Brown if I donā€™t get into PLME.

@bsmdcanā€Œ current GWU 7 year med student over here, I can assure you many of the program kids accepted did not opt to apply for the honors program

@shimitar Thank you for your response.

Is it superhard to be in honors program and still score 3.6 GPA that is needed to be eligible for med school.

I havenā€™t received any confirmation email from njit after sending out my application. Did anyone have this problem?

Yes! I emailed the admissions counselor for our location and we received an email saying my DSā€™s decision went out on Oct. 23! He hadnā€™t even received confirmation they received it! Once we asked, we found out the decision via email within an hour or so. Accepted! No fanfare, but being the first one, thatā€™s fine! My feeling is that they seem a little disorganized!

Hi. Reading this thread for a while. Now time to post. My Sā€™s plan is to apply many Combined MD pgms. After having gone thru 1st few, he feels it is too much work especially the LOR process. In fact he had removed many colleges from his original list due to this complicated LOR process. Either way we have still Rochester & GWU in our list and we have this question.

(1) Rochester: http://enrollment.rochester.edu/professional/rems/#tab2:</a> It is not clear whether one should also submit REMS-CAPS application on top of Common Application!!. If yes, Can some one post the location/URL of that REMS-CAPS application.

(2) GWU: http://undergraduate.admissions.gwu.edu/seven-year-bamd</a>. Similar question. It is not clear whether one should also submit any other supplemental application on top of Common Application!!. If yes, Can some one post the location/URL of that supplemental application?

We have asked these questions to the respective colleges and not sure when we will hear from them. We are hoping some readers of this thread are applying to these schools and may have the answers. Thank you in advance for your attention.

Hi, my D is currently in the REMS program.
She applied to 4 BS/MD programs and thought that was a good number (and a lot of work). We then found out at the interviews that the average number of BS/MD programs being applied to (among the 30+ finalists) was around 10-12.
About your application question, my D just looked online and thinks that they may have changed the format this year (that there may not be a separate application for REMS). There was one for her.
Iā€™ve found that UR/REMS staff are very accessible and helpful, so perhaps you can call them on Monday to get a definite answer.
Good luck to your son, and if you have any other questions about REMS (for a studentā€™s and/or parentā€™s perspective), please donā€™t hesitate to ask.

Anyone heard back from Pittsburgh yet? I got an acceptance for undergrad but nothing about BS/MD

@parentofsā€Œ Iā€™m pretty sure that thereā€™s a separate REMS application but I had no idea there was for GWUā€¦

anyone received confirmation of receiving the application from RPI. Thanks

@bsmdcan From what Iā€™ve heard, the honors program is a lot of writing and has many requirements. While the courses may not be particularly difficult, the work load is heftier than perhaps a premed not in the honors program. That said, a 3.6 gpa is more than doable in premed with honors requirements. I would not recommend doing the honors program if you are planning on double majoring as the requirements will make it nearly impossible. In regards to the BA/MD program, I would not recommend doing the honors program because the prestige is useless at this point. My BA/MD friend in the honors program who chose the program because he thought heā€™d like it, is dropping it because of the extensive writing requirements and the little benefits otherwise. With that said, apply to the program regardless (especially since there is never any guarantee in getting into the BA/MD program). It is an extra essay, but you can drop it anytime with no penalty. For reference, I am planning to get a B.S. in Biology as well as a B.A. in Music and was originally selected for both programs but dropped the honors program. Good luck!

@parentofs Hello, I applied to GWUā€™s program last year and am currently in GWā€™s BA/MD Program. In regards to your question, there is no external supplemental outside of anything on the Common App that is submitted (Just make sure your son checks the box that asks if one is applying to the 7 Year). Good luck!

@shimitar Iā€™m applying to GWU for BS/MD soon. Mind sharing your stats so that we can see which students get in and also any advice you have for BS/MD programs in general?

@shimitar Thank you for the update. It helps.

did anyone else get interview notification for NJIT and Drew?

Is if too late to apply to NJIT? Also do they have instate preference?

I hope they dont have instate preferenceā€¦and the deadline was Nov. 1st so i think it is too lateā€¦sorry
