***Official Thread for 2016 BSMD applicants***

@AcceptMeOrNot Thanks!

@GoldenRock I received an email yesterday morning regarding UH 3+4 program. Looks like one of the two med schools we were interviewed has released the results. The email says more details will be sent out once the second med school is done processing. It was sent to studentā€™s email. Check the spam.

I got into SLUā€™s 8 yr. program and wanted to hear some opinions from current SLU students on that track. Iā€™ve read a lot of opinions, especially about the high attrition rate and the small percentage of students actually making it to their med school. Overall, Iā€™m very confused about SLU and would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

Does anyone have stats of admission to HPME Northwestern?

@jscoffee, the (hard core) stats is not crucial for admission when you advance to the interview. The (soft) interview self plays a decisive role in the final decision. For example, your maturation, ability to interact with your interviewers and staff, genuine passion for medicine at the stage of 17-18 years oldā€¦

@J2H239 I totally agree with you. I posted the youtube video on Domain Expertise and Soft Skills yesterday.

Domain Expertise takes us up to the interview stage. Afterwards Soft Skills play a key role.

How would you compare Brown PLME to other programs? (Residency, prestige, amount of preparation for med school, opportunities, etc) The lack of GPA and MCAT requirements are things to consider.

@Texaspg Referring to posts #2910, #2913, and #2915: Is the instate reservation for medical school/MD admission only or is it for residency (after getting MD) as well? May I know the instate % for IL, MA, and NY for residency? Where can I find this info? Thanks in advance.

It really depends on what factors are most important to you

Pros of PLME: easier requirements in terms of gpa and no mcat, top 50 medical school, Brown undergrad experience and more freedom to set up your class schedule

Cons: high cost unless you qualify for need based aid, not the best medical school with bs/md,

Iā€™m a parent of a junior who will be applying to BS/MD programs next year. Is it true that Miami HPME requires that you make maintain a 3.7 GPA and 32 MCATs?

Residencies use a national matching program (NRMP) and there are no reservations. There are some in school preferences which become apparent but those are made based on connections.

Residency interview invites are dependent on step scores, rotation evaluation grades/reports, and recommendations and in some cases, familiarity with your work ethic during your rotations and who is recommending you to specific programs.

However, what really determines your fate is a funky algorithm written during sixties that matches your ranking of the programs you interviewed at against what your rank was at each of the programs. My paraphrased interpretation of the algorithm is that you get really lucky if both you and the program ranked each other 1-3 but you can end up in a 20th ranked program if no one ranked you high enough until the 20th program on your list.

Is anyone looking to go to California Northstate?

Is Anyone Still Interviewing for Albany- RPI/Union- This week or next week?

Got into Northwestern HPME!

Other people who got into HPME: when making your Northwestern email, what did you all put as your anticipated graduation year? 2019, 2020, or 2023? Thanks!

Does anyone know when Miami decisions are coming out?

@seaweed66: Re Miami decisions: I do not have any direct information regarding this year, but looking back at previous BSMD result threads, Miami decisions came out on 3/28 via email in 2014. Couldnā€™t find any information about 2015. If you find out more please post

Anyone from February 26th UIC Honors College interviews get GPPA interview yet? Since Honors College acceptance came only last week and GPPA decisions are due out April 1st, when are they gonna finish the GPPA interviews???

@ORM1229 I would assume interviews are over since decisions are due April 1st and they have to give you the notification some time in advance.

@MyloYoga thank you! I will definitely post if I find out more info
