***Official Thread for 2016 BSMD applicants***

How is the Brooklyn/SUNY medical Program ? Any thoughts on this.

Did anyone else besides @dudefromnowhere get a letter for Drexel programs?

Did anybody receive news from TCNJ?

I got rejected from UMKC.
Did anybody else get into UMKC , out of state ?

JUST ACCEPTED TO HOFSTRA MED

also accepted to Hofstra BSMD, the left me a voicemail today evening!!!
What do u think of the requirements? 3.6 minimum gpa to matriculate into med school, and no grade lower than a B in any science classes (including ochem, etc), with no retakes. How difficult will that be?

@theoverlandtrail from what the previous students told me at the interview, itā€™s not hard at all! Are you planning to attend?

UG guidance counselor called in the evening, Accepted to Hofstra program!!!

Congrats to all those who got accepted at. Hofstra!

Congrats to all who have got the BS/MD admissions so far!

is it better to go to a top undergrad program (such as UCLA, Duke) without bsmd, or take the Hofstra program?

As for proā€™s and conā€™s of the Hofstra Program
As far as I can see, the only pro is that you have a guaranteed spot at the Hofstra Northshore Medical school, given that you meet all requirements (3.6, 80th percentile in MCATs). The medical school emphasizes hands-on and practical applications from year one (most medical schools only allow clinical work during the 3rd year).

However, the ā€œconā€™sā€ are that you are going to Hofstra University for four years which may not meet the ā€œstandardsā€ for some people. Also MCAT is required unlike other programs.

Any advice as to if its better to go to a top school, or the Hofstra4+4 program? Also, ~10 yrs down the line, will employers look at which undergrad you went to?? Or just the med school. Pls help guys im in a tough position rn : (

Duke vs. Hofstra (3.6, 80th percentile in MCATs): if you are persistently self-motivated, DUKE and medical school via traditional routeā€¦

To overland trail

Few really care about undergrad per se
As pateint really donā€™t look at this and those who really do, maybe you donā€™t want to see anyhow for it shows their inner dynamicsā€¦

I guess your key question or dilemma lies in two thoughts

A. Getting in med school normal way vs bsmd
B. impact on residency and career

A. Clearly you are a good test taker but I caution you the ball game jumps up a notch and it is hard at times ā€¦I am past this period of life but currently
I run a research lab practice medicine and have six bs and ms students trying to get into med school and I see the pain and stressā€¦
Some time a bird in hand is worthā€¦ You know the phrase
B. residency is more linked to what field you want and how did you do in key test, in us lme one and third year rotation honors and AOA etc

Med school of Hofstra was founded in 2008 and. I donā€™t know it personally but Long Island is not bad place to live for 7-8 years

Do you have an admission in Duke? Dukeā€™s medical school usually has a reasonable percentage of their own undergrads but UCLA does not.

Hey everyone! Just got in Hofstra BS/MD and Duke too. Not sure which to pick rnā€¦

Does anyone know the acceptance rate to Hofstraā€™s BS/MD and how many kids they accept each year?

Iā€™m pretty sure my son has chosen to accept EMSAP at UAB. How would you all rank this program? He has been accepted at two ivies for undergrad and to Vandy ug also, I think. Would you go traditional with an ivy or Vandy or do EMSAP? Just curious how the EmsAp program is viewed?

Like BSMD programs not all Ivys are created equal. Which Ivys are the two in consideration? It would be helpful to know when people give you their personal opinions.

Duke is one he just found out. Probably the next closest contender for him isnā€™t an IVy but is closeā€¦Vandy

How much do you have to pay for him to attend Duke or Vandy?

EMSAP medical school is top 30 and so it should not be easy to give up without serious consideration.

@texaspg thank you! Your reasoning is where I am as a mom. He is pretty set financially with EMSAP. We would have to have loans for the difference with Duke and Vandy. His NMF status is far more financially beneficial with EMSAP! I just as a mom donā€™t want him to lose opportunities merely because of money. I wanted to find out more about how EMSAP is viewed as a result. We were impressed when he went to interview, but that is my only contact with UAB. Both Duke and Vandy have prestige that speaks for itself!
