@sam999 check this out:

@Sam999 and @sonpat
I’m not sure why you specifically asked about 7 year programs. But, I do know that VCU-GMED, a 8 year program is liberal enough to hold your med school position and allow you to apply outside. VCU believes that if they expect you to take the MCAT they should allow you to apply outside. I’m not sure about too many other programs that do that. VCU is popular for that very reason, although not too many students apply outside despite having the option.

I was waitlisted for the University of Oklahoma BA/MD program. Any one have an idea if I have a shot at getting in?

@GoldenRock and @narkor thanks for the info and the link.

@junebug999 Possible. So far in this forum 3 folks got accepted and 2 of them (including my D) is joining. But the 3rd person got 2 other offers and contemplating which one to take. In case if s/he opts out, you may get. But did you get any indication how many are wait listed and where you are in the list? GL.

It is against their policy to disclose what status you have on the wait list. I really want to get accepted into this program. I’m hoping for the best.

@junebug999, as @GoldenRock said, our DDs plan to be OU Sooners in the Fall. @bamdapplicant will probably choose Stony Brook University SUNY School of Medicine (See #3326 of this thread). That will free up one spot. As I understand it, only 7 students received acceptances. By the way, if you are a National Merit Finalist OU is still a great place to go for undergrad. You will get almost a free ride and pursue a Medical Humanities Minor while taking your pre-med courses.

What are all the colleges that are non-binding that allows you to apply-out and still hold your med school position?

Based on my understanding VCU, NJMS, UCONN, Baylor and REMS allows you to apply-out and still saves the medical school spot.

I think Northwestern does not stop you although my info is from 4 years ago.

Got an email acceptance from Union-Albany :slight_smile:

Congrats to everyone who was accepted into an Albany Medical School-linked program! I’m so proud of you all and I’m sure you deserved this hard-earned reward :slight_smile:

However, for those not interested in the program who got accepted or on the waitlist, please be mindful that there are those who are desperately trying to get off the waitlist, so please call Albany ASAP and let them know you will not be attending!

Although I was rejected long back after receiving the supplement, I have many friends who are in a zone of uncertainty right now because of their position on the waitlist - please be considerate and try to make sure all of us work together to make everyone happy with their BS/MD admissions in the end.

Thanks and have a wonderful day :smiley:

Daughter got into Pitt GAP. She already has more than half a dozen offers, and accepted UT-PACT. She thought her decision would be final, but now is wavering a bit. Can someone please shed some light on the pros and cons of these 2 programs? Based on our thought process, below are some points:
Pros for Pitt GAP:

  1. Top 10 medical school (the best medical school to offer a BS/MD program)
  2. Undergraduate tuition is paid for (we are OOS)

Pros for UT-PACT:

  1. 7 year program (saves 1 year)
  2. First 3 years completely paid for (Tuition, as well as Room & Board)
  3. UT Southwestern is not bad either (ranked 23)
  4. Stays close to home (we live in Dallas)

@gotamathebuddha - UT Southwestern will be about 30k/year if you pay for it in full. Pitt without scholarships will be around 80k/year.

Edit: if you are local and the daughter stays home, it will be more like 20k per year. Their brand new hospital is state of the art.

Go with UT Southwestern. Good school @ lot lower cost. 10 vs 23 is not a big gap, unless she is looking ranking for a specific field. I doubt that most kids know what branch of medicine they want to go @ this stage. Ranking only takes you so far (esp in medical field)

@gotamathebuddha Pitt (Rank 16 US News) and UT Southwestern (Rank 25 US News) don’t differ significantly in rank and both are excellent medical schools. While tuition is paid for at Pitt, both tuition and room and board are paid for at UT. This in addition to the much lower cost of UT Southwestern will result in a significantly lower overall cost of attendance for UT-PACT. One thing to keep in mind is that the requirements for matriculation at Pitt are relatively higher than those of most other programs(I couldn’t find information on the MCAT/GPA requirements at UT Southwestern so I’m not sure how in compares in this regard). As you pointed out, UT-PACT is also closer to home and saves a year. Overall, I would think that the pros of UT-PACT outweigh those of Pitt, however, if your daughter feels she fits better at Pitt, it may be worth considering assuming finances are not a major issue. Both are extremely good programs and you should be proud of your daughters accomplishments.

you guys think penn state is worth the money? it’s quite a lot! I could go to my state school and go the traditional route…

@GotamaTheBuddha I will go with UT-PACT. To all the points you and others listed, 2 more points to consider for her.

  1. Weather: If she is born and raised and comfortable with Texas weather, it is going to relatively cold and snow in Pitts for 8 years.
  2. Definitely it makes sense financially since Texas Medical schools are the lowest fees, added to that you are in state. The net savings will be substantial given both medical schools are top notch.

Can you please reply with the date of admission for UT PACT? Though some one reported and it is in the tracking sheet above, the exact date is not known. Thanks.

Thank you @texaspg, @srk2017, @Joobycooby, and @GoldenRock for the valuable advice.

@GoldenRock UT-PACT acceptances came out on 3/10.

Is there a FB page created for Union-Albany RPI/Siena - Albany? If so please let me know. Thank you.
