@tliu222 NJMS is non-binding
@MD2B REMS is the best choice given your residency interests. Although dermatology is very competitive, REMS will provide you the edge when it comes to comparing two candidates from a TOP 25 medical school known for research vs. other schools
For tcnj/njms program, if you apply out, njms withdraws the guarantee.
No new additions. But updated the list based on today’s feedback from few of you.

@GoldenRock I’d appreciate it very much!
@GoldenRock thank you so much for posting the dates all along. Appreciate your effort.
@motheranxious, I’m trying to make a similar decision on whether or not to go to Siena/Albany’s program versus a more prestigious undergrad. I’m looking into more competitive specialties after med school (derm, optho, urology), and I’m wondering about Albany’s match results.
Anybody here have advice on this? I’ll be working hard for four years if I go with the more prestigious school (not an Ivy, but top 20 undergrad with an amazing med school and top-notch research). But I’m worried that Siena won’t give me the right research opportunities and a rigorous enough academic environment (necessary(?) for the MCAT, and maybe even the USMLEs)
@allefficace, you can see Albany’s match results here: http://www.amc.edu/academic/undergraduate/MatchResults.cfm
@allefficace it is admittedly difficult to evaluate match lists for competitive specialties since there is usually a small sample size and the lists don’t tell you how many people weren’t able to match into their first choice specialty. All you can tell from the match lists is that the quality of the programs represented in the competitive specialty matches.
The best data that there is suggesting whether or not going to a top 40 school is helpful can be found in AAMC’s “Charting the Outcomes” http://www.nrmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Charting-Outcomes-2014-Final.pdf where they break down the proportion of matched applicants from a top 40 school for a given specialty (ophtho/urology use a separate process from NRMP so not included). In terms of just matching into a competitive specialty, the benefit of going to a top 40 school is modest. Using derm for example, while 37.6% of applicants were from top 40 medical schools, they make up 40.3% of matched students, which is greater than, but roughly similar to the proportion of applicants from those schools.
So if your goal is simply to match into a competitive specialty, you should be able to from a lower ranked school like albany as long as you otherwise have a good app. What will be difficult from a lower ranked schools is matching into a top tier program, which should be a consideration if you’re very interested in research.
@Roentgen or @dblazer I tried google and OU web site to find the match list for OU and not successful. Though I found the match list for OU-TU joint program. Can you please help how to locate the match list for OU? Thanks.
@GoldenRock, here it is: http://www.ou.edu/tulsa/community_medicine/community-medicine-student-services/eras_and_the_match.html
To add to what @dblazer said, I would say it’s also more difficult to match into more competitive specialties coming from lower tier medical schools that don’t have a home residency program in the competitive specialty you’re shooting for, even with the best of board scores and clerkship grades. A 1 month audition rotation can only go so far. Having a home program, serves as a good lift off point when it comes to getting meaningful letters of recommendation from those who’ve known you over years, getting involved in productive research endeavors to where you can get abstracts/posters/publications, building up a CV over a sustained period of time, getting good faculty mentorship as you’re going thru the match, etc. which are pivotal in specialties in which the number of total practitioners is relatively small – i.e. Derm, Ophtho, Rad Onc, ENT, Urology, Plastics, etc. Residencies in these fields can be very selective in terms of the applicant pool when it comes to choosing a resident, beyond just grades and scores, which often is the initial step to qualify, but not the entire road to match.
@roentgen - that list seems very specific to part of OU students who went Tulsa,
@GoldenRock i’m not sure if the list exists on the Internet, unfortunately.
to @Roentgen’s point, Albany Medical Center does not seem to have a home dermatology program and I wasn’t able to find a Derm match on their list over the past few years (they have programs and matches in ophto/urology though)
Go down to a post on 3/25 where someone posted a pdf file match list.
http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/attachments/match-list-2016-1-pdf.201675/
Thank you @Roentgen , @dblazer and @texaspg. You are all amazing folks and so helpful.
That site needs an account to open that pdf file, though the poster already de-identified (PHI) the names.
No problem. My D says she is clear that medicine is her call and prepared to go thru long and winding road. She is fine to know and decide about specialty when the time arise and planning to send the SIR to OU this weekend. Thanks again.
@goldenrock - I dont think it takes much to create an account although I did this about 3 years ago and so don’t remember the nuances.
@GoldenRock Thank you so much for your effort on the list, and wish the best to your daughter. My D2 will apply for the BS/MD this coming cycle and your list is very helpful.
@GoldenRock I second what @dadofd said about your effort. My S will be applying next year and your list will be very helpful. Hopefully you area available for any questions.
@texaspg, yes, you are right. Darn. I realized in looking at the LCME directory the OU medical school is actually based out of Oklahoma City. Tulsa must be a satellite rotation site for them so that x% of the class goes there for third year rotations after the basic sciences. They seem to have taken down the one from last year, 2015: http://www.oumedicine.com/collegeofmedicine/information-for-/current-students-redirect/2015-Match
@dblazer, not at all surprised as Albany has home Urology and Ophtho residencies, while it does not have a Derm residency (or at least not currently).
@GoldenRock, you or your daughter can create an account for free on SDN: http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/login/ (just like you would for CC, so it doesn’t take long at all), and then click on the link above and download the PDF directly to your desktop. I do think it’s worth looking at a school’s match list. You can also call or email the Student Affairs office at the medical school, and they should be happy to give you several prior PDFs of past Match lists in the past 5-10 years as potential matriculants ask for them all the time when making matriculation decisions thru the normal application process. It isn’t necessarily used to decide what specialty your daughter will choose, but more to give her a sense of their strengths, weaknesses, and past residency match track record for the medical school, if that makes sense. Also thank you so much for listing all the dates in which acceptances were given out. Extremely helpful for those students who have applied to a list of Bachelor/MD programs.
