***Official Thread for 2016 BSMD applicants***

@srk2017, I know some of our applicants in the UMKC thread have used this company: https://www.apetest.org, but more for the MMI prep since UMKC has switched from traditional interviews to the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) back in 2013.

This ranking looks reasonable, I’ve long thought BU/Miami/PSU would be in top, for their desirable med school location, even though location is not listed as ranking factor, when kids move beyond undergrad year, large metro area in the coast becomes sought after for med/residency.

@pcb1604, yeah, but most people probably shouldn’t choose educational institutions which they pay for based on their proximity to the beach (no offense, Miami) vs. more objective metrics like cost, qualities of the med school, etc.

Do you remember how long your interview lasted? @allefficace @lyfe33

@IfnousWHO Thanks for bringing this ranking link into the thread. Like you mentioned it is a decent starting point. Though, I wholeheartedly agree with @Roentgen that 6-year programs are not necessarily better than 8-year programs. One other note, doesn’t NEOMED pretty much exclude most non-Ohio applicants? In 2013 they took only 3 out-of-state and 102 in-state students.

@RayznHELL, yes, pretty much with NEOMED, although I don’t know if it’s now officially a 6 year program or 7 year program now. They take VERY VERY few people from outside Ohio, it’s almost not worth applying.

@Roentgen @RayznHELL NEOMED at the interview told us that they accept 20 kids out of state compared to 80 kids from instate. There are so few out of state for NEOMED though because if you got into NEOMED, chances are you probably got into a better program.

@tunetheday, interesting they said they take 20 out-of-state, when in the BS/MD class that just entered in Fall 2015, above, they only took 9 people. Does the spot disappear if the person doesn’t accept or do they go down a waitlist/convert it to an in-state spot?

@Roentgen they only accept 20% out of state, or about 20 seats, split between the three colleges. Neither Kent State nor Akron had more than 2 kids out of state in each year, so I assume that those declined spots either disappeared or were given to an in-state student.

My comment about NEOMED was possibly not clear. What I meant was that their program, which pretty much limits itself to Northeast Ohio, should not be listed in a “Top 25” list if their program was not a national program.

Anyone know how many seats are available for CWRU BS/MD?

anyone know how many seats are available for Uconn Spim?

@texaspg

I attended UR 2016 REMS weekend/interviews and my understanding is as follow:

of qualified applications received = 1023.

of students, both domestic and international, invited for REMS weekend/interviews (finalists) = 45.

Actual # finalists whom attended REMS weekend = 44.

15 to 18 students would received acceptance letters and about 2 to 6 students wiuld be placed on waitlist

~10 matriculate each year (school target)

@ifnousWho - Thanks for posting on REMS.

I am trying to find data on Case Western if anyone has it.

@RayznHELL

I don’t know why you forget the fact that a lot of BS/MD programs fill just ten seats
going by that yardstick NEOMED exceeds that by offering 15 OOS kids an opportunity

Rankings
people always start with preconceived notions
so no two can agree with any ranking list created based on a variety of factors

Two years is an eternity and the assumption that a kid going for a 6 year program can not have a true college experience is subjective to put it mildly

On a totally unrelated note, this forum for the most part is being used to bash a particular college where their son or daughter did not get in or as a boasting pad for proud parents who want to broadcast their kids’ accomplishments

Smart high schoolers need just the list of BS/MD programs and I strongly believe they have the wherewithal to compare and choose which programs will fit for them and if they have any specific questions they can ask the questions here and get answers
So I strongly feel armchair quarterback discussions should find their place in retirement forums and certainly not in CC

I will be posting my stats as soon as the school year is over and finals are all done. I hope that everyone else would do the same!

@texaspg
Oops I must have been thinking about REMS when I saw your post. I also attended CWRU PPSP weekend however I currently don’t remember the stats.

@starocks I do not know where you got the figure of 15 OOS students, Here is their page for 2015: http://www.neomed.edu/admissions/medicine/bsmd/COMBSMDC1ClassProfile201515thDay.pdf They only took 9 OOS; and 95 were from Ohio. This is still better than 2013, when only 3 OOS kids got in to a class of 105. Therefore, with the odds 91% to 97% against you, if you are OOS you are probably wasting your precious resources applying there.

For Case Western PPSP 1700 Apply, 59-60 are Called for Interview, 26 are Accepted, 18-20 Matriculate

@mysnisck - are all of them MDs? I noticed the program includes other specialties.
