With all due respect, LasMa, this is not a blogging or journalling site. You have no ownership or control of what you write here. I don’t think it’s fair or reasonable to expect that anything you write on a thread on a forum anywhere will be available to you for all eternity.
Legally speaking, you’re right. I’m talking about trust that’s been lost. In all my years of posting on forums, I’ve never had the experience of a thread simply vanishing (unless deleted for violations), until the new CC came along. Lesson learned.
^ More than one site I’ve posted on in the past that just vanished overnight - forget a deleted thread, the whole thing was gone. I’ve used other sites where hardware problems wiped out the contents of the forums - who knows what sort of backup procedure (if any) is in place for CC?
While I wouldn’t expect all of CC to vanish any time soon, I would not be surprised if one day the Parent Cafe (for example) was deleted at some point because it does not fit in with the vision for the site the new PTBs have. Not saying it will, or that I expect it, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
In the case of this particular thread, my guess would be that someone accidentally deleted it, although since there is no accountability to the users here, I don’t expect we will ever know definitively. It would be pretty much impossible IMO for a bug or glitch of some sort to take out exactly one thread and not mess up a ton of other stuff (a database corruption, for example, would have affected tons of things).
^A moderator accidentally banned the OP of that thread, and deleted all of his content. It’s an easy mistake to make. But on the old site, deleted posts were only “soft deleted” - they were easy to restore. And you had to click on each PAGE of 15 posts or so to delete that page. On the new site, it takes only ONE click to delete ALL posts, and they disappear totally. We have asked for that to change. Don’t know if it will.
@notrichenough, the originator of that thread posted that all of the threads s/he orgininated were deleted when s/he was erroneously banned. After s/he was reinstated, the threads were not, at least not right away.
Wonder how the OP erroneously got banned. That never happened on the old site either.
ETA - If someone does accidentally get banned, how do they let someone know? I assume you can’t communicate with the mods if you can’t log in.
^Oh, it happened occasionally, LasMa. We would have to ask an administrator to reverse the ban.
If you got banned, you could create a new account and let us know why you did. We will understand!
Good to know, ML.
So are the rest of the “mistakenly banned” poster’s threads going to be reinstated, also?
^The administrator said they hope so. The posts have to be somewhere!
I appreciate the link back to the TOS
It’s been a while, but we finally have a quick update for you:
<a href=“*** OFFICIAL CC FORUM UPDATES THREAD *** - #9 by CC_Sorin - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums”>*** OFFICIAL CC FORUM UPDATES THREAD *** - #9 by CC_Sorin - College Confidential Community - College Confidential Forums;
While this may not be much (considering the bigger issues signaled by the community), but we are working on finding solutions to address the major requests—though they require more time and resources. Thanks!
I keep getting logged out today, from phone. WO fearing if its my location. More later .
Sorry about the spelling above. Was headed into a meeting. I’ve been logged out 3-4 times today and twice got ‘user id unknown’ (or similar) when navigating back from the profile page. I wonder if this could be my specific location today.
Nice that the mobile site works better on iPhones…any chance this is ever going to work on the iPad? I get this exact site just like through safari when I use my iPad application link…except the iPad format does NOT rotate with the device…thus being a bit if a PITA.
@lookingforward, I’ve forwarded your question to our tech team. Will reply as soon as I get an answer. Thanks!
Good news. I haven’t been logged out for two days! But…sometimes when I post a reply, it also saves as a draft. Not all the time, just sometimes. I notice that I have a draft, check the thread, and the post is posted. Luckily I can delete the drafts now…but why does this happen?
@lookingforward, the tech team could not reproduce the issue. The problem could have been generated by numerous causes. We are still looking at improving our system to make sure we solve all these log out errors.
I also, the odd time, get my posts to also save as drafts but only happened 3 times.
Please let me delete PMs…
