[]Supp essay why Tufts: I was very specific about what got me initially interested in Tufts- that I saw on their website that they had special interest housing like the Japanese House. [] What would you have done differently?: Retaken the SATs and taken more Subject Tests; I got so sick of them so I just didn’t try Math 2. Not to mention my courseload over the years has not been ideal, I’ve kind of been making it up as I go (again, yay homeschooling) and I would have done a million things differently.[/ul]

General Comments: very interesting decision coming up!

Regarding so-called “Tufts Syndrome”: I got in with 2390 SATs, a 4.0 (UW) GPA, 9 APs (with 5s on the four exams that I’ve already taken) and national recognition and awards. I know several highly impressive, high scoring students who got in (one of whom intends to chose Tufts over Harvard.) Tufts Syndrome is myth and/or history. I think Tufts’ application, with its multiple essays, enables the adcom to distinguish among students and accept those who are interesting above and beyond their impressive scores and grades. The myth that highly qualified applicants are denied admission seems to live on only as comfort to those who were not accepted. It’s an old myth that’s overdue for retirement.

I agree with greenbee, a lot of the people who didn’t gain admission at my school lacked what I find to be the “fit” Tufts is looking for.

greenbee-
I generally agree with what you said about the hypothetical “Tufts Syndrome,” but I have two questions:
First, are you a parent or the applicant? Your prior posts state both, which suggests to me that you are probably a parent and sometimes just post in the first person as if you were your son.
Second, did you/your son applied to Tufts EDII?
If you/he were accepted early decision, then your individual experience would have no relevance in rebutting the “Tufts Syndrome” theory, because it doesn’t apply to ED students, where there’s a guarantee that an acceptance will yield an actual student.

^ Perhaps they both share the username?
