@enpz45 did you choose UCLA already or are you waiting on USC?
damn, got rejected…
even though i’m an out of state transfer student and chances are miniscule
still bummed tho
Got accepted! Congrats everyone! See you guys in the fall.
Congrats everyone who got in…@jonathaanv I’m going to UCLA. I’ve never really been drawn to USC. I think that’s a bug people catch who want to go there. You either bleed red and gold or it’s meh. For me it’s meh. You?
4.0 gpa, no positions in any clubs, but started my online business.
10/10 essays.
accepted to UCSD, UCD, UCI,
rejected from UCLA,
ACCEPTED TO HAAS!!!
GOLDEN BEARS <3
@enpz45 I’m going to wait till I get my response and go from there. I can’t go wrong with either, but I’m going to weigh all pros and cons before making a decision.
Accepted. For the future applicants:
I was not interviewed.
I have a competitive GPA like the rest (not a 4.0 though)
My advice: grind the essays to death only after you do something meaningful in this world to write them on.
I kept it real with my application, more importantly my entire community college experience. (And know) I do not mean that in an arrogant way. I was able to put my heart into soul the essays because of key experiences I pursued along with values I hold close to home.
Also,
Get a good essay reader. Someone that will look you in the face and say “this draft fucking sucks.”
I can’t stress enough how important this is.
I’m humbled.

Did anyone take the applied calculus series to meet the prerequisites? Did you get accepted or rejected? Does CAL look down on applied calculus (bio & social sciences) versus regular calculus? I’m looking to preserve my 4.0 GPA. Not sure which route to take. If I take regular calc i qualify to apply to UCLA, but I’m scared taking the normal calculus will drag my gpa down.
Also, does anyone know if CAL recognizes completion of honors program?
@FutureHaasBear I did the applied sequence and got in last year. Know plenty who have done the same.
You might want to be qualified for UCLA as well as Haas is so competitive. You need a good backup, regardless of your GPA.
Hi Brian! Thanks for the quick reply. I followed last year’s thread and saw your posts in there as well and it was truly inspiring. May I ask what other schools you applied to besides Haas with the applied series? I was also wondering if I may ask why you picked the applied calc versus the regular and how did you decide?
.
Thank you!. My stats are: GPA 3.92
EC: Volunteer at Laguna Honda Hospital ( about 3 hours a week),
VP in a club at my CC (didn’t do anything there, to be honest)
Have 2 full-time jobs, have a wife and a daughter.
I am an immigrant as well ( this is certainly a plus for CAL).
I also had an interview.
I think it’s all about your essays because many of us have 3.8+ GPA. You have to write something unique and in order to do that, you have to do something special in your life.
BTW for those who accepted by UCLA, some people say that if you got accepted by UCLA you most likely will be rejected from Haas, and vice versa.
Hi Arsen, thanks for the stats! That’s great we both had the interview and got in. I agree that the essays are the most important parts.
BTW I did got rejected from UCLA for Econ major, I didn’t apply their Business Econ major since I didn’t finish taking Financial Accounting before the fall semester (that’s their criteria I believe)
@FutureHaasBear I applied to Haas, Sonoma State, Cal Poly SLO, UC Davis, UCSB, UCSD. UCB, Cal Poly, and Sonoma State were business and everything else was some sort of econ, though I wasn’t at all interested in econ. I was accepted to all.
I did the applied series because it was easier and I would likely do better. I had a huge unit load and was weak at math, so I wanted to do 3 unit math courses instead of 5, and it was way less intensive.
Having the STEM calc sequence is definitely useful so there’s a lot of value in it, but it won’t make or break an application. Doing poor in either will though. I also got a B in the first of the two courses.
Congrats! I think it is a correlation between Haas and Biz. Econ but I might be wrong. Anyway, what are you planning to do with your degree? What kind of career you have in mind?
That’s weird how the Applied series of calculus works for Berkeley, since my CC’s agreement on Assist.org doesn’t clear Applied for Berkeley. You have to do regular from my CC. Then again, Applied at my school is one semester for 4 units, so that could be the reason why.
@TheLongRun That’s exactly why.
My school offered either the 5 unit STEM sequence or one 3 unit applied course … and the latter didn’t satisfy anything for Haas. I ended up going to a nearby school just to take their 3 unit applied sequence.
Hey did anyone consider doing the PreCore Haas Summer Program or have heard anything good about it?
I’m a Haas student trying to get recruited this fall by the Big 4 but don’t know if I should be taking accounting classes over the summer or take PreCore to find mentors/make transitioning easier… I just don’t know if “Special Topics in Business Administration - Professional Communications” is something worth dropping $1,200 to take.
I’ve heard from a PreCore cohort leader that it’s good to take just so you have a Berkeley GPA and that the professors are awesome but I just wanted input from people who’ve heard other things.
