I thought it would be interesting to start a thread focused on transfers to Haas. So, open discussion.
@MikeSauce @briank82 @itakenotes @drewjonn @Hiroaki0422 @lindyk8 @Wadadli @Hardworker223 @nerdbomb @pgkb24 @CCCtransfah - Just tagged you guys because if I am correct I believe you all (or at least most) are applying to Haas
Would anyone like to post/compare stats?
https://haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/class_profile.html
^^All of you will find this useful.
Thank you @Cayton … I’ll start with my stats
Major/Overall GPA: 4.0
Prereqs: all completed except Calc 2, which is in progress
Breadth: all completed, 2 in progress this spring
ECs: President of Student gov, VP young entrepreneurs club, Senator of Student gov, PTK member, Nominated student rep on several campus committees, including the hiring committee for the EVP of the school, Muay Thai Academy for 2 years (not leadership but it was very valuable to me), some other stuff as well…
Work: Paid Business dev. summer intern at small startup, sales consultant at mens wearhouse, also put on application a business that a friend and I were starting however, since the application, the business has pivoted into something else
Volunteer: Marketing intern (unpaid) at non-profit, library, many campus committees
Essays: 9/10’s pretty much for all of them I assume but it is hard to judge my own essays.
I’m no expert on Haas admissions, but you seem competitive, @HaasBounded. Good luck.
I suppose there is no harm since we’re all just playing the waiting game.
GPA: 3.92 Transferable/Major: 4
Prereqs: Done, W/Calc 2 in progress
Breadth: Done, W/2 in progress
ECs: President of Student Veteran Organization, Warrior Scholar Project/Service to Schools Alumni Ambassador , Business Senator of Student Gov (past), Treasurer of Student Gov (past), Chair of Election Committee (past), UCB TAP, UCB starting point mentorship, PTK/AGS member, PTK All-California Community College Academic Team.

Volunteer: Spanish Translator/Interpreter/Technical Support for local Latino community: roughly 12 families. Student Life Office Volunteer: graduation, voting booths, etc.
Essays: 8.5 maybe, the more essays I write for other schools the less confident I feel with these @_@
Pros: Veteran, underrepresented minority, aced a class at UCB last summer, consistently took 17+ units
Cons: 1 B, 1 P, 1 W
GPA: Something like a 3.8. Hard to accurately measure because of a lot of out of state CC units and non-transferable units
Prereqs: Done, with calc 2 in progress
Breadth: Done, with 2 in progress
ECs: VP of Community Service in PTK, VP of Student Veterans Organization, UCB Tap, UCB Starting Point Mentorship Program, considerable business experience from owning/running a small business from 2009 until now.
Work: Owned/ran a national media company, currently an independent contract during digital marking consulting
Volunteer: some random things
Essays: Prompt 1 and 2: 10/10, Haas supplement 7/10. I feel really strongly about my first two, but had a difficult time with the supplement.
Pros: Veteran who overcame a serious head injury, re-entry (turning 30 in April), extensive and unique business experience and with some unique ties to Berkeley/Haas, like my business partner being invited to speak to Haas MBA students, heavy course loads
Cons: a lot of Bs (but I have a lot of units with a lot of A’s, hence still having a 3.8), with a few in pre-reqs (english, macro econ, calc 1).
Who knows how it’ll go. My grades are good … they’re solid, but not amazing, but my first essays were strong and I have a really unique background with business. I guess we’ll see!
“currently an independent contract during digital marking consulting”
Err… Independent contractor doing digital marketing consulting.
Traveling internationally right now and my brain is fried.
@briank82 @MikeSauce I forgot to mention that i am also in the honors program, however I am not sure if Berkeley really recognizes that. Do either of you know if Berkeley recognizes honors to some degree? I know they acknowledge it but I am wondering if in the end it will really play a role…
and by the way you guys do seem pretty competitive… its going to be a very selective admissions this year I assume.
Yeah I don’t know much about honors.
I think I’m competitive. My grades could be a bit better, though I think what mostly matters is that you’re right around the average, but I feel my background makes up for that a bit. Still, with so few spots available, anything is far from a sure bet. It’s really about finding a way to stand out I think.
You obviously sound really competitive as well. Perfect grades, active on/off campus, etc. There’ll be a lot of applicants just like us though so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Mine isn’t great as you guys. But, I don’t have too much hope.
International student
Major/Overall GPA: 3.88 overall
I got one A- in statistics B in Calulus 1 and B+ in Photography.
Prereqs: all completed except Calc 2, which is in progress
Breadth: all completed, 3 in progress this spring
ECs: Marketing club and international student volunteer participant.
Work: Server for one year 2 years restaurant manager.
Volunteer: None
Essays: 9/10 I feel pretty good about it. I talked about working at the restaurant and how I struggled in high school with the language barrier.
Doesn’t look too bad, that volunteer work tho…
@MikeSauce I haven’t done any volunteer work. I mean I worked full time and studied pretty hard. I wasted a lot of time being homesick and all.
I mean if you worked full time while also going to school full time then I’m sure you hardly had enough time to study, let alone do volunteer work, the admissions folk should see that. You said your essays reflected that struggle so I think you did all you could given the situation.
Did anyone get an email for being interviewed? @MikeSauce @itakenotes @briank82
Nope, I heard it was more for international students to verify english skills or people in the maybe pile, just rumors tho
Nope. And what Mike said.
I did get an interview request, and I am not an international student. Feeling a little nervous!
(And I know a few other applicants who also received requests that are not international.)
