I thought it was time to start the 2018 transfer thread sooner than later. I actually thought to do it last Spring once my friends were getting their acceptance letters.
At an rate, I hope we can all discuss, debate, and ask questions about transferring to UCB Haas!
Best of luck to all, and I hope we all make it wherever we want!
My stats:
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Will be done spring 2018
7 Course Breadth: Will be done Spring 2018
Pre-reqs: Only macroeconomics left which will be done this coming semester (Fall 2017). So I’ll apply to haas having completed all of my pre-reqs!
I’m trilingual!
ECs: Investment Club member, AGS (honors society) member, Tutor for Calculus 2 and below, led math jam workshops for a whole week( A program that helps students do better on their placement tests to jump or prepare for a certain math class), interned at a financial services company during tax season while taking 17 units, Working on volunteer hours (should have 50+ by the time I apply), was amongst the 100/700 total applicants that got selected for the UC Berkeley summer experience program 2017, Tutored free of charge 2 hours a week for a whole semester.
PIQs: I’m writing about how I’ve lived in 3 different countries around the world. I’ve been in cali for almost 4 yrs. How I was once in special ed for all of my core classes. How I had the language and cultural barrier and how I overcame it. How I looked after my families financial issues during my teenage years. How my biggest talent is my versatility…
Wdya think? Getting into haas will be my biggest ever victory especially after all the negativity and underestimation that I’ve faced. I just hope I’m unique b/c even if they say that “GPA is 50%” it really isn’t hahaha!
@Ak1097 Wow! Those are some really competitive stats! It looks like you have a great academic resume, well rounded with extra curricular activities and life experience. From what I’ve read from past transfer threads, your chances seem pretty great.
Speaking of which - how was the UC Berkeley Summer Experience program?
To everyone else - looking forward to asking questions and interacting with everyone here! I’m hoping to apply to Haas as well, but will be maintaining a realistic outlook!
BSE was awesome!! We got a full campus tour, food, and on campus accommodation for a weekend. The main purpose of it was to basically to help us with the insight questions but there were also presentations about the student organizations, financial aid stuff and in general, the life of UCB students. I was a little upset to leave, not b/c I was so happy that weekend, which I was, but b/c it might have been the first and the last time I went to Berkeley…I guess we’ll find out verrrrry soon!

ECs:

PASS mentor (program which works to provide equity to underprivileged minorities),
Student Government Director of Human Resources.
Intern at a defense tech company.
Personal Insight:
1.Required: How my love for the tech industry developed while I moved to NYC on my own post-HS graduation
2.Educational Barrier: My math foundation was so weak (last math class was Alg 2 my sophomore year in HS). I wrote on how hard I worked to catch up and succeed in the required calc courses. In the process, I fell in love with math and will pursue a minor in stats or data science.
3.Community: working as a PASS mentor, I work to help underprivileged minorities succeed in school
ESSAY 4: not too sure… i will possibly write about my internship experience (leadership)
Sorry for such a long post. I know I’m not the most solid applicant, but let me know what you guys think. Looking forward to trying to destress in this nerve-racking time with you all
Hello everyone!
This is super important to me as well. I always think about how many people want to go to Haas and how few people get in. Its very nerve racking and hard to judge my chances. But I come with news! I spoke to a Haas advisor about 2 weeks ago and she said that for fall 2018 admission they are leaning towards interviewing all eligible applicants.
This is good news!! More places to showcase yourself, because putting it all on paper is extremely difficult.
Ok so here are my stats!
GPA: 3.85
Major GPA: 3.9 ( B in Macro, that I took in high school)
All class/ igetc/ transfer requirements done by Fall 2017
I have two jobs! One as a Supervisor for a technology group and another as a department Lead for the tutoring center at my school.
I am in the Future Business Leaders of America Club (former treasurer) as well as Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and College Democrats Club.
I am the Executive Vice President of Activities in my Associate Student Government and have created a Task Force against Sexual Assault in partnership with the NFL and CSUN Strength UNited
I am a recipient of the Business Technology Osher Scholarship.
I participated in programs such as Berkeley Summer Experience (100/700 applicants to be selected) and Starting Point Mentorship Program (for two semesters)
I have presented my research on women in business at my college’s symposium and on biodiversity affected by the beer industry at the Honors Transfer Council of California at UC Irvine.
I will graduate with Honors ( through the Honors Program) and with an AS-T in Accounting and AS in Math
Transferring to Haas is all I’ve been working towards for the past year and a half!
Hi @Ak1097 I think your chances are good but as I have seen in other threads and heard from other people, it all comes down to how you present yourself in the application. That being said would love to discuss strategies and possible interview questions. Good luck to you!
Hey, @businessgirl123 you have some realllllyyy strong ECs! As far as your GPA goes, from what I’ve read in some threads, anything above a 3.8 is considered pretty darn competitive so if you’re nervous about not having a higher GPA, worry no more! I’m really looking forward to discussing potential interview questions and strategies with you. I hope the best for both of us.
I want to apply to Haas as a transfer student from CCC.
Here are my stats:
20, Asian-male, International Students
GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
AS-T: Business Admin
AA-T: Economics
IGETC: will complete in Fall 2017

will have ± 100 hours of volunteer when I applied
Economics Tutor at my college
Barista at my college
I just want to know my chances since I know Haas is super competitive and get to know peoples who are applying to Haas.
Just a heads up to you guys if you didn’t know already, when they say that the essays contribute to 35% of the decision, they really mean just the Haas supplemental essay that you do in January. I’m pretty sure they still look at the personal insight questions but i was kind of discouraged by the fact that I spent so much time and effort into the PIQ’s only to find out that they don’t have that big of an impact on the decision. I hope I’m wrong but that’s what I heard from the presenter TWICE!
I disagree. That defeats the entire purpose of a holistic review and Haas would be doing themselves a complete disservice if they were to gauge a candidate largely on one insight. Sure, the supplemental is tailored for Haas, but by somewhat discarding or not taking into account the other 4 essays showcasing “you” as a potential fit would be outright foolish. Could you base a decision on last year’s supplemental? I doubt it, just keep grinding.
@SDSFCalifornia Exactly my thoughts when I was listening to the presentation. Also, the speaker was a student representative from HBSA and not an official Haas admissions officer so I’m hoping she was wrong. But absolutely, keep working on the essays people and don’t be discouraged by my post. We got this!
@businessgirl123 Interesting to hear Haas is leaning to interview all eligible applicants.
That is a LOT of applicants to interview, it seems unlikely that Haas can afford to sit through 1 hour or even 30 minute interviews with students with the large number of applicants, even without those who aren’t eligible.
Having combed some of the past forums, I’ve read that some people get interviews and others don’t, and whether or not you got one is not indicative of acceptance. People without interviews have gotten in and those who got an interview also haven’t.
Just wanted to give some perspective on the matter, so that those of us who may not get an interview aren’t discouraged.
