Yuup...I'm currently visiting Berkeley, so I submitted my appeal in person. The woman in the Admissions Office happened to be the same one with whom I had an advisor meeting in the fall. She remembered me, but nothing specific since she sees a lot of kids, but all I had do to was remind her that I'm trying to transfer from Duke. :) She actually told me she was really sorry, and said something like, "I did tell you at the meeting that we favor community college transfers, right?" That made me feel a bit better. In any case, she said they were trying to get the appeals out before the first of June, if possible.

tallkell is going to do homework 8+ hours a day and not have a social life? hahaha I think I said that too b4 I transferred. You'll have to let me know who you are in real life so I can check on you next semester to make sure you're keeping your word.:) Gots to keep these newbies honest!

I would take the minimum 13 for FA06, and then take 16 for each of your three remaining semesters. That should get you outta here on-time w/o summer school. Keep in mind, you only need 120 to graduate, and you'll be carrying over at least 60 from JC.

If you take 16 the first sem., it won't be impossible to get A's. This one girl I know who xfered from SMC got a 4.0 cuz she was hardcore, but I think she only took 14, and not 16. I just recommend you find your groove, because there is a transitional period--and they'll tell you this at CalSO. For the first two months, you're gonna be walking around campus grinning all the time cuz you'll finally be going to real college and it feels cool--you'll think you're so f'ing cool because of where you are. You want to enjoy that feeling because it wears off when midterms hit around October. Also, most classes have a mandatory discussion section which sucks away time too--unlike JC where you just have lecture and that's it--after that you go to the beach. You also want to allow yourself to acclimate to your new environment and compensate for any homesickness/culture shock that might happen (tho u guys aren't coming from THAT far away, I know). Oh yeah, and be sure to leave relationships on good terms b4 you come too. The last thing you want to bring is baggage--aside from the clothing type. My chick dropped me last sem. which probably accounts for a little of my mediocre GPA (or maybe it's just a cop out on my part--glad I didn't loan her $5k to put into her chest like she wanted me to). You don't want to be going through any BS while you're here. You want to be getting into newer and better and cuter BS.

Nobody I know reads over the Summer--but maybe I just hang with the bad crowd. It certainly wouldn't hurt, but I'd just enjoy your summer if I were you. Have fun, go to parties, get laid, blah blah. When you party tell 'em all that you're a Berkeley student just down for the summer and that you're gonna make a million dollars and that you could've gone to UCLA but decided not to sacrifice your principles for some simpler, narrower, less classical education at some feeble, impostor, southern expansion UC campus--more geared for frat boys than for future worldly elite-denizens of society. Tell them that there is ONLY ONE Cal and it's in Berkeley--no matter what their colors are, or what their fight song sounds like! (Don't know if that'll get ya any play or not). But don't talk about football or basketball.

Hahahah, thats effin hilarious yeah*****es. Perhaps, I'll try that move over the summer and see how it turns out. It might just be another perk of going to wonderful Cal =]

I have another question: do transfers care as much about hating Stanford? It seems like that, along with many other things, is really inculcated into frosh, especially living in dorms.

In my personal experience, I have come to hate (Stanford) just from my brief time staying at Cal with a good friend. It's not so much I absolutely detest the students there; its just a fun rivalry I picked up on out of my sheer growing love for UCB =]

Inculcated--nice $10 word, and appropriate too. Actually it's kinda hard not to feel sorry for them after we beat their a s s e s so hard in football this last season. A riff-raff contingent from a public school (of all things) that is 1/10th of the cost to attend, crossed the bay, took names and cracked skulls of those elitist puuunks. I wonder if they have minority attendants in their locker rooms that they pay slave wages to to wash their towels and delouse their helmets after each game.

YEAH!! Let's get laid!! Wait..I'm a girl..I think my "getting laid" stock went down now that I'm a berkeley student..now, guys can no longer thing I'm just another dumb, easy blonde.

what a shame..what a shame..

Smart girlz are HOTT, just so you know. If he can't respect you for your brains AND your booty, then he's not really worth shagging anyway (he's likely to not be well-endowed). I've always had the worst luck w/ dumb girls b/c I don't know what to talk about with them. They like me, but I just get bored so quickly with their dumb a s s e s. Now that you ARE a Berkeley student, your dun & bradstreet just shot way the f up so use it! But, if you think you're gonna lose out on some good a s s, you can always say you go to Chico State.

umm anyways...

Heres more information, provided by a helpful poster in a different thread:

It's a few years old, but one thing that this does change is that it's not 3% of appeals that are granted, it looks closer to a 10% chance of a decision being reversed.

Also, the May 15th deadline is to find out by June 1st.

so 18 units is too much? trying to double major, and want to take 4 classes. am i just asking for it?

It depends on what you're accustomed to. If you've been in community college the last couple years, then I'd ease into it. If you're xfering from another UC, then 18 might be doable. You can always try it and drop by the deadline if you think you can't hang. If you miss the deadline, you have a long time b4 you have to change your grading option from letter to P/NP.

the thing that trips me up is that 18 units at cal is only four classes. im taking 19 units/six classes this semester, and i took 19 units/six classes last semester as well.

Well, my decisions page just changed to include "Appeal Status" at the top. It seems like appeals are going out on a rolling basis. Anybody hear anything yet?

no, I haven't gotten anything yet. I'm crossing my fingers!

Not on a rolling basis. decisions won't be out till May 31th or June 1st b/c they have to wait and see how many positions they have. And one admission lady told me this year's figure is 1200. so i'm basically expecting a rejection.

1200 what?

How long does it take for the "Appeals Status" to appear on the webpage? I sent mine in last minute on the 15th and havnt seen any change on the site yet.

Err...so I just got an email saying I got into UC Riverside 'cause Berkeley forwarded my app to them. Since they told me of this acceptance after the regular admissions period, does this mean that they forwarded the app after getting the appeal 'cause they're not going to accept me? :( Geez, who knew that news of a college acceptance could be so upsetting?

i knew..........

how exactly does this appeal process work...and does it apply to all colleges?
