Official University of Chicago EA Class of 2017 Results Thread (Results Only)

I probably don't have enough street cred around here, but I've always wanted to make one of these. To EA'ers of the class of 2017, please consider posting even if you were rejected or deferred. It is extremely helpful for future applicants. Remember, we were in their shoes once, using these threads as useful indicators of where we stood. Decisions come out in the late afternoon (probably 4-5 pm) on Tuesday, December 18th.

This is a thread for ONLY results. Please no posts until Tuesday. Discussion for EA class of 2017 can be found here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/1420463-official-uchicago-ea-class-2017-results-thread.html

Copy/paste the format below, fill it out with only the information put on your application, and remember to remove the spaces in the brackets. Please be honest. Good luck!

Bump: moving this to the top so everyone understands that this is the Results Thread.

Others are discussion threads.

I completely understand the idea behind this thread, but I strongly doubt that people are going to take the time right now to post their entire applications. (You’re going to get some terse keyboard mashing, if you ask me, which y’all deserve!)

But for real, best of luck to all of you. It is extraordinarily, unfairly difficult to apply to college right now, and almost everyone here is probably perfectly qualified to succeed at UChicago, or any other top tier school. For those who get accepted, congratulations. For those who are rejected, my two cents are to take a deep, deep breath, and remember there are still hundreds of other awesome colleges to apply to RD. And for those who get deferred, percentages be damned, if you continue to show strong interest in UChicago, and work hard throughout the rest of the year, you still have a real shot at getting in, I promise.

[] Why Chicago: Freakonomics (9)

To those deferred/rejected, I know this won’t make you feel better, but it really isn’t your fault. Admissions at a place like Chicago is a crapshoot. (10)[/li][] EC Short Answer: I wrote about my JSA experience and how I got to know a ton of great people from all over the country and how I bumped into one of those people by accident while visiting California with my exchange student. (9)
[] Extended essay (which topic): [Where’s Waldo?] I wrote about how Waldo is an allegory for finding oneself, and how when I transferred and changed my name and what that represented for me finding myself. I tied it into social media and evolution and Kevin Bacon… It was all over the place. I finished with talking about how I found myself in the Land of Waldos–at the University of Chicago. (8)
[] Optional Essay: I talked about how I found a rare copy of the original USA Trilogy in a little bookstore when I visited Pittsburgh and how I annoyed my mom staying at that bookstore for like an hour. Then I mentioned my enjoyment of Ogden Nash and of Inception and The Blazing World… (8)
[] Why Chicago: Talked about how when I visited UChicago I sat down in one of the lunchrooms (they had just started school) and pretended to be a student. When I finally revealed my ruse, they said that I would fit in well. I brought it back around to their motto and mentioned a couple cool clubs that they have. OH AND ALSO THE CORE. HOW MUCH I LOVE THE CORE. (9)

so about my gpa… when i switched schools (used to be at a public magnet STEM school) my grades transferred to this weird system that we have here, with no regard to the different grading scale. As a result, my gpa appears to be significantly lower than it really is…

it’s not the end, though. I hope that a strong mid-year report in really tough classes, additional recs, and a display of interest will tip me into the accepted pool.
