Hmm that’s during my winter break so it wouldn’t affect me. I guess you (rldmsdl12) live in other countries with different school year system.

@hatesmus, winter break starts on the 17th for you guys?! (i live in new york)

haha no luckily mine starts on 14th I live in British Columbia, Canada so I figured most Americans would have similar winter break. I may be wrong since I don’t know anything about American high school.

So they take out ED applicants who were accepted to their first choice school? Makes sense for their yield rate and good for those of us who are head over heels for UChicago!

There’s no reason I can see why they would want to release on a Monday specifically. It could be any day. Why do you guys think it’ll be ONLY either the 17th or the 21st? And does anyone know how/when we will find out the day?

Also Columbia released decisions yesterday and they seem to get the most cross-applications with UChicago so it shouldn’t take too long for kids to pull their apps. Hopefully.

they will send us a link, we will open the link, type in our username and password, and click “login.”

I’m from NY too!! I hope A LOOT of kids who applied EA to UChicago got into Columbia yesterday…I mean it probably won’t be that many but…sigh

I think most universities constantly release their results at the same week day. Columbia releases on Thursday. So I think it’s reasonable assumption that Chicago would release on Monday.

I just recieved an email that UChicago’s Office of Aid is trying to review me for aid but is missing one of my documents for financial aid.
Not to be a jerk, but if they’re need-blind…does this mean I got in?

I’m a little suspicious that everyone admitted ED elsewhere will rush to pull their Chicago apps. For ED agreements I have seen, there is a window of time, for them to look over the financial aid offer and accept the ED school.

Don’t know, tawarren, but it does make you wonder if the financial aid office is really looking at all 10,000 apps or just those admitted! Hope it’s a good sign for you.

I’m not sure whether admitted ED applicants would rush to take back their applications but I guess UChicago has some requirements or ways to take care of it and release their results in time.

Many schools require you to notify your ED school by mid-January, so yes, you do have time to review the ED package. There are a lot of moral questions that come with ED, as it’s not supposed to be a “Wait and compare packages to make your decision.” kind of thing.

If you have been accepted by your Early Decision school, you should withdraw your application to UChicago right away. Here is the official response from UChicago admissions office:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-chicago/1390943-unethical-ea-uofc-while-eding-someplace-else.html?highlight=ethical+simultaneous

Tawarren, are you in the US? They’re needblind only for US and Canada and need-aware for international students.

They also may just want a full app for the sake of completeness.

I hope for you that it’s a good sign, though :)

Strange. ED policy itself says you pull your apps as soon as you ACCEPT an ED offer, not when you’re notified. Why else would ED allow you to apply EA and vice versa?
Although I’m still waiting on my ED.

I’m here in Texas. It doesn’t make sense that they would put together packages for every applicant and then reject a portion of them, as they are need blind and have only so much money to allot. I can post the email if anyone’s interested.
But I’m probably just jumping the gun and need to be patient. Thanks everyone.

I got the call too… It makes me hopeful because they hadn’t called awhile ago when my information had shown up as missing (I have submitted it but I don’t think it’s gotten to them)

This is not about the Early Decision policy. This is about UChicago’s own policy. I don’t think it’s a nice thing to do to potentially take up a spot at your EA school when you know you’ll be matriculating at another (since ED is binding).

Is Chicago’s financial only need-blind for Americans? For internationals, I thought FA is considered in admission office and brings down one’s chance.

You apply to ED and EA in the hopes that, should you get rejected from your ED, you will get into your EA school.

If you get accepted ED, it’s only right that you’d pull other apps as quickly as possible.
