The same thing happened for me with the aid office like a week before results were suppose to be released for my ed school and I got in!

" I don’t think it’s a nice thing to do to potentially take up a spot at your EA school when you know you’ll be matriculating at another (since ED is binding)."
Like I said, there’s plenty of moral questions that arise with ED. I agree with you, and this isn’t my intention to hold another spot while knowing I’m attending my ED. However, you don’t always know the moment you get into your ED that you’re going. Some families have to work through financial aid.
But yes, UChicago’s policy says you are to pull your app as soon as you hear from your ED. I was just stating it was strange that UChicago’s policy doesn’t match up with the principles of the ED and EA policies. The idea of being allowed to apply ED and EA but having to pull your EA before you even know whether you’re going to your ED (because it’s not 100% binding; you can still say no if the financial aid package is not sufficient) seems strange, that’s all. But UChicago’s policy stands and should be respected regardless.

@Hatesmus, need blind doesn’t apply to international students. I don’t know how much it “hurts one’s chances” though.

“If you get accepted ED, it’s only right that you’d pull other apps as quickly as possible.” I agree. But again, “as quickly as possible” may mean that you have to figure out whether you can afford to go or not, and/or haggle with the Office of Aid. Getting into ED doesn’t automatically mean you’re going if financial aid may be a problem, hence why many people who will need a decent package are warned away from ED (among a million other reasons).

I sent in all my financial aid forms necessary…
so… it doesn’t mean that if I don’t get a call I wouldn’t get in, right?
Because they have… no reason to call me…

<: ( so scared!

@sunshinerocks, they contacted me because I was missing a financial aid form. If you have sent all your financial aid forms, they have no reason to contact you about missing ones. They could be building your package right now. Or not. You won’t know until notification day. Unless you mean something else by “getting a call”?

@twarren95
oh thank god
i’m still super duper nervous…
i wish decisions would come already!

I received an email about my financial aid documents too. it seemed pretty generic, i wouldn’t be surprised if they are just running a program that checks the documents you’ve submitted…
however it is nice to speculate :)

But see I never received an email, I got a phone call from someone at uchicago. A sign? Most likely not. But I can wish

I haven’t gotten a call or email, though I just checked and apparently my tax forms were never submitted.

Not to overly freak-out, but isn’t this a bad sign?!

I wouldn’t worry, they may just be running through everyone’s stuff and just haven’t gotten to you yet.

PS Did anyone else see the “Anxious for EA Decisions to Come Out” on the UChicago Tumblr and almost freak out, hoping they were announcing the deadline? Nope, instead we get bubblewrap.

I saw that! I also saw fyeah UChicago’s tumblr reblog a picture of my nails :D

Haha I’m so late at finding some info about UChicago. I just realized that adcoms in UChicago put more emphasis on the essays than on the scores. I’ve heard a lot that UChicago very values the essays relatively to other top universities but I didn’t know essays would outweigh the importance of scores. I have no regret in my essays and I’m satisfied that I made my own voice with values I appreciated with conviction.(which is a very contrast to my Columbia essays :S those were total bombs and I failed to make my own voice completely). I guess UChicago has one of the most holistic admission office in United States where essays are more important than the scores. I love UChicago’s essay prompts where they offer several choices of intellectual essays. I noticed surprisingly lot of applicants have chosen Waldo essay and some pre-sent/present essay. Perhaps those prompts are easier in writing an unique essay and making own voice.

I’ve noticed a LOT of Waldo essays. That being said, most of them are the same idea being articulated in various pretty words by pretentious teenagers. Not to say that I’m any different, as I answered the Waldo prompt, wrote pretty prose, and could write the book on pretentious teenagerdom.

That being said, for me it just came down to which prompt best lent itself to presenting myself on a silver platter for the admissions person. I spent a whole lot of time thinking about it (there’s a Waldo in all of us? There’s no such thing as Waldo? Who even cares about this Waldo character, anyway?) and eventually it just hit me. Waldo’s the sought after and what more could I seek than a UChicago education? That lightbulb moment made it a breeze to write my essay.

Speaking for my peers, as I have ~10 friends applying, most had the same sort of moment of clarity. The prompts that are easy to get stuck in your head are the ones you’ll easily recall in those moments right before sleep, and thus the ones you’re likely to have an AHA! moment over. Not to say that I couldn’t have written a good essay for another prompt, just that this one ended up so me (crazy, quirky, and a little [let me brag, I love this essay to pieces] brilliant).

If I get rejected, I’ll know that it had nothing to do with my essays.

That aside, Waldo’s a memorable prompt, so it makes sense that a lot of people would write about it.

Funny story: I told the man that interviewed me for the school that that was the prompt I had chosen. His response? “What the heck do you even do with that?!”

i haven’t received any email and i haven’t submitted any financial aid information… is this a rejection -_-?

Hi everyone:)
I’m new on CC (though I checked it often for info without logging in :P). I’ve got super nervous about UChicago EA these few days… looked through some of the posts in this thread and realized that I’d received nothing from them, email or stuff… even more nervous now. T_T Sorry if I’m being random it’s just the anxiety. and no one close (physically and emotionally) really understands it well… well they may understand but that doesn’t really help :(

For those of you wondering why you haven’t gotten a call/email for collecting missing financial aid forms and are chalking this up to a rejection- don’t. You still have about two weeks before decisions. Your application could be running through Office of Aid right now. Could not be. I think that being patient will be more beneficial than jumping the gun (which I admit I might’ve done with my first post); logic says if they’re wanting your financial aid forms for the 2013-2014 year, they’re making you a package. However, it’s a just as legitimate point to say it could just be an automated system trying to fill in blanks and could mean nothing in terms of an acceptance.
If you are missing somethg and haven’t been notified, turn it in anyway and don’t be upset that they haven’t notified you. I know it’s hard to just take “Calm down.” advice (I’m freaking out, too) but freaking out won’t change whether you get in or not.
Send in your missing forms. What if they mean to send you an email and you get accepted, but because you were waiting on this “sign,” your financial aid is delayed?

haha thanks! You sound mature
Anw I’m not applying FA for UChicago coz I’m an int’l student. Too big a price to pay as FA will significantly lower my chance… just panicking a bit without much valid reason (guess we don’t need many legit reasons to panic over this though :P)

Hey everyone. I too applied to UChicago early action. I think everyone needs to calm down about the financial aid stuff. Don’t read too much into it. As for the waldo prompt, I wasn’t sure what to do with that one either. I ended up answering the fifth one, the one that told you to make up your own question and answer it. I think this one gives you the best chance to stand out, but may also be the riskiest option (huge risk/reward potential).

Hi! Did anyone get a "test of the University of Chicago Emergency Notification System " via text or e-mail? Does UChicago only send that to admitted students?

I have not received an email either about tax forms, but my account does say I am missing tax forms when I sign in… Hopefully this isn’t a bad sign.
