Official UCI Transfer admittance Thread

wow i feel extremely fortunate to be accepted already. however, i know exactly what you guys are feeling… i went through this process two years ago as a freshman applicant and waited tirelessly for a simple notification of whether i got in or not. my advice to you guys would be to try and enjoy this time you have in the present. go out, have fun with friends, find something that helps you relieve stress and worries. i know it sounds cliche but it really did help me. again, continue to work your butts off and try to make the best of what you can control and eff all the rest haha. hang in there guys.

So I emailed a scholarship coordinator at UCI and she said that they have only notified freshman of their Regents Scholarships and that all eligible transfers will be notified by mid-April. Haven’t transfers on this board already received their Regents packages? I’m so confused…blah

I think it’s a standard line that schools throw out. The admissions offices are peob getting swamped around this time with phone calls, so they have their script ready to read.

In my email I stated that I knew some transfers have already been notified and then she is like no, we have only notified freshman.

An automated script would make sense. Oh well. I guess I’ll find out for certain in a month or so anyways.

Current Junior at Sonoma State University
Student Status: 60-89 units completed with C or above
Applied to: UC Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Davis, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz.
Major: Political Science
Minor: Business Management
GPA: 2.847

Pre Requisites: Completed
Essay: Strong essay towards major and intended career choice. Spoke of both the United States business based internship, and the South American business management internships i have completed throughout past summers.

Already have been accepted to UC Riverside to the Political Science/International Affairs Major. What are my chances to the other schools i have applied? Really hoping for Santa Barbara, I appreciate the responses!

Riverside and Merced is a chance.
Everything else is oh noez

How important is the Essay section to UCSB?

^The essay is only used for scholarship purposes, not for admittance. Unless you’re applying to Cal or UCLA.

Since my past internships are part of my essay, but also attached in my resume will they be taken into consideration?

^ What do you mean you attached a resume? The area where you put jobs and ec’s?

@ kingdomsroa48: Interesting, I did not know that.

Yes the Jobs/Work Experiences section, is it taken into much consideration? Or is it solely based on academic standing? If someone would like to explain further on this subject that would be great!

I’m pretty sure the comment on personal statements only being for scholarships is untrue. While some UCs might have the essays hold more weight, they’re definitely read by every UC admissions officer.

Edit: they don’t want any excess info to be sent in letters of req etc. for your specific question I’d call a counsellor at that UC on Monday.

I would assume that they would expect more job experience stuff from transfers. But I’ve also heard that its more competitive for people who transfer from 4yr to 4yr.

No one said they aren’t read.
It’s just that UCs other than UCB and UCLA tend to use it more for scholarship purposes.
Either way, admissions is academic performance based. They take other things into consideration but it is primarily your grades and prereqs and GEs.

Btw, this information wasn’t given by just anyone. I trust Ms. Sun.

Can i get some other chance replies?

I’m just under the impression that transferring from a 4yr to 4yr is much more competitive than from a cc and honestly your 2.8 just doesn’t look very solid. I had a really good essay as well and I have loads of work experience including 4yrs of experience in corporate wholesale. I’m still not extremely confident in which schools might accept me. I got accepted to UCR so far but I don’t intend to go there. But hey you never know, anything could happen. If I don’t get into my top 3 choices for UC’s than I’m just going to SFSU.

@tbuiznis the average accepted GPA for UCSB students last year was a 3.44. And iDizzle is right, 4 year transfers have less priority.

are those really your stats shredderview?

i agree with everyone else. your GPA is just too low. sorry. unless you are a medal of honor recipient you don’t have much chance anywhere except riverside and merced. if those internships you did were super prestigious then that might help
