Official UCI Transfer admittance Thread

@tillyzinha

Ah! Wow, that is definitely news to me. Thank you very much for filling me in on that. I applied to PSB and if admitted, will definitely stick to it. Which are you studying, and how do you like it?

I am in the Cog Sci. Technically PSB requires a higher GPA to be admitted, but it is a little bit easier once you are in. They strongly recommend that if you want to attend Graduate School that you choose Cog Sci because it will make you more competitive.
While a good number of classes are cross listed for both majors, here is the difference.
PSB is under the school of social ecology. It is focused more towards counseling.
Cog Sci is under the school of social sciences. I feel like because that is a much bigger school (one of the largest, if not the largest one) students have much more opportunities (scholarships, internships, etc…). It is more science based, and that is why they have the computer science requirement and the calculus requirement. The truth is, if you ever want to attend graduate school you better know this stuff anyway. I did not take any of those requirements at my community college as they generally prefer that students take those at UCI. To satisfy the computer requirement all you need is one class. And to satisfy the statistics requirement you need to take a one year stats sequence (I am taking social science 10 A-B-C, and I am super happy with my professor, but you can take PSYCH A-B-C)

I honestly wouldn’t change for anything. Our classes are more brain based, like language, vision, neuroscience and stuff like that.
Hope it helps!
let me know if you have anymore questions!

Woohooo! Got accepted!

Sociology
TAG
3.7

This was great for me seeing as I’ve been denied TWICE by UCI, once after high school, and once after my second year at CC.

^ Congrats, third time is the charm. : D

Lucky me just got accepted with tag and 3.40gpa,economics major, however couple weeks ago I dropped my math 8 class () which is calculus 2 and obviously its one of the must-be-completed classes for UCI eco major(strangely found out that UCI is the only UC campus which stated that math 8 is a must-complete class), my question is will they reject me just because of this one class because I obviously completed everything except for this class, I got igetc, pre-cal and calculus 1 with A grade, and every other major required classes, acounting and english 1,2 etc. Thx guys and good luck

@liuyuyang: Mmmmm I think there is a good chance that they will rescind your acceptance. Even if it wasn’t the required math course there would still be a good chance that they would rescind your acceptance if you dropped any class during this time.

Can you switch your major from psb to cognitive science psych?

did everyone get into their major? What If I don’t get into my first or 2nd major? would it just be undecided?

People are getting accepted? I still haven’t heard any news from them. So it’s a new batch?

btw… how is the party scene at uci? I heard the good/bad. I kind of missed my first two years of the college experience because of CC. I sort of feel a regret of coming to a CC although I save money… but there is a feeling that I have that I just wished I went to a university straight out of high school instead…

^^ yeah… apparently they came out this weekend. im still waiting for mine even though i tagged. this is frustrating :<

Uci is deserted during the weekend. It’s commuter school.

^^ It’s not strictly a commuter school although I know people who did. I used to have a good time partying at UCI when my buddies dormed there.

^^It gets pretty dead. But those that live on campus tend to stick around.
There is also a bar on campus, which is pretty cool!

No school spirit whatsoever.

i think its an all-right partying school. i honestly don’t understand why some people think certain schools are better partying schools than others. it all depends on what circles you travel in. i didn’t know too many people that went to UCI (most of my friends were in college from '04-'08) so thats why i didn’t go to many parties there. I have been to a few uci parties and they were exceptional. had a good time every time. if any one tells you that their school is lame in the partying department that just means that THEY are lame in the partying department.

^^Agree with navymike.

@tilly UCI has a cogs major?? It is not listed on assist and it is not listed on UCI’s website. Confused.

It doesn’t seem like they are admitting people by major or TAG or GPA, do you think they are releasing decisions by last name or something? If so, I have a while to wait :/

Well it seem like a majority of those recently have been TAG it could also just be totally at random. Are they now on a rolling basis like 100 per day (SB style) or are we waiting for the next batch?
