Official UCSC Transfer 2012 Decisions

@ kingdomsroa: Oh that’s perfect if you end up going to UCSC that way you can live on campus too! But wherever I end up transferring, my gf and I will be living off campus so I will have to drive. She really wants me to go to SFSU though because shes a graphic designer and all those jobs are up there right now. If I go to SFSU, the cheaper places are in Oakland which brings up two problems. One, it would probably take an hour commute whether by car or pubic transportation to cross the bay, or Two, I get shot or mugged. LOL

@iDizzle: Pssh, go to UCSC! Haha. Well, I’m sure you two will figure it out. And I’d love to live on campus with him, but there’s no option for on-campus living arrangements for couples, with the exception of Family Student Housing. But I doubt we’d qualify for that, so in order to live together, we’d probably end up going off-campus as well. A random side note- My brother is a graphic design major too! He’s a senior at Cal Poly Pomona. :)

Im still waiting on my admissons! Im still so scared!

@ kingdomsroa48: Yeah, I’d actually opt for off campus just to kind of get away form school during the day. LOL. Very nice! My buddy graduated form Cal Poly Pomona last year in graphic design! He told me at one point they cut off the graphic design dept completely(due to budget cuts) or something so it prolonged his graduation. If this is true, your brother should be over that hump already as well. =]

@Andres760. I’ve read that the UC’s are not really taking anyone with a GPA under 3.0 at this time. Which sucks because i’m in the same boat as you are. I have a 2.8 which is due to my horrible grades 10 years prior. I had a 1.43 and was on academic probation before dropping out of school. I returned to school a year and a half ago and have maintained a 3.4 GPA, but when you put the two GPA’s together, i’m still under a 3.0 which sucks, as i’m a totally different student today, with a huge professional background behind me.

@Kingdom - Do you think they will consider the fact that my current GPA of 2.8 is a reflection of my GPA from 10 years ago? or do you think they just look at the fact that i don’t a have a 3.0 currently and just dismiss me all together. Ahh… this sucks.

By the way. I’ve checked with UCSC, UCD, and UCSD and i’ve not received an answer from any of them… i wonder why?

hey ya’'ll I’ve got myself a bit of a situation.

So I was admitted to UCSC however, I just got a semi/mini promotion at work which will require me to be clocked in at work by 12 everyday. The problem is, I have an English class that ends at 12 so odds are, I will have to drop this English class.

It’s an elective English class though. I don’t need it for my GE (I already did my GE english requirements) and I’m a Poli Sci major so its not required for my major. I also don’t need it for my 60 transferable units. I kinda just took the class for fun.

Do you think this will affect my admission?
Thanks :)

Can you still drop the course without a W or an F?
If not, you need to organize your priorities. If your education takes precedence over your job, then you shouldn’t have accepted the promotion in light of the scheduling conflict (which is by no means a bad thing, but one has to be chosen over the other), conversely, if your job takes precedence, then you should call UCSC admissions and simply ask them. Explain everything you said here, and they will be able to tell you if it will affect your application.

The drop deadline for my school is May 6, so with a W

I haven’t decided whether I’ll take the offer or whether I’ll drop the class. Just wanted others input.

Gotcha  Yeah, my personal recommendation would just be to 1) call admissions and ask how that will affect you, and 2) prioritize.

@iDizzle- That’s true! What area of CA are you located in now? The only issues I have with living off campus is trying to haul all my stuff up there and buying stuff to furnish an apartment, like beds, desks, etc. Not exactly rolling in dough over here! Haha. How do you plan on attacking this if you do end up at UCSC?

@Coqueiro- The thing you have going for you is your strong upward trend in grades. Its quite a leap to go from a 1.43 to a 3.4 on your transcript. As of the March 17th deadline, they hadn’t accepted anybody with under a 3.0, HOWEVER, applications have not all been evaluated at that time. I have seen people here on CC that have been accepted with under a 3.0, so I would imagine their decisions were released before March 17th in previous years. I will say though that the UC’s might hold it against you for not having academically renewed your courses to bring up your GPA. I guess it might come down to who is evaluating your application, how competitive your major is and where their target enrollment and admissions lie for the year. You could always call and ask for some input?

@Rob- If the English course is not to fulfill a major prep or the English requirement, you’d probably be fine. I wouldn’t go accepting the promotion though before talking to someone in admissions first, just to be on the safe side. Keep in mind that if you decide to withdraw from the class, you’d have to notify all the UC’s you’ve applied to.

Has anyone received information on their Financial Aid awards at all? Or are we receiving those with our final “confirmation” letter in the mail?

Oh I just read it on the Financial Aid website. They’ll start sending out offers to admitted students April 1st. :P

^If somehow I get admitted after April 1st, they better include my financial aid information too for making me wait so long! lol

@ Coqueiro: Our stories are similar. I went to cc for 2 years after high school only to drop out and develop a drug problem. Than I ended up finding a full time job in the wholesale industry and did that for 4 years and climbed the ladder as high as I could without a degree. So I went back to school and kicked ass in all my classes. Did you get AR(academic renewal) done? I dropped out with a 1.2 gpa and got AR and it lifted the GPA to a (still crappy) 2.5. So the 2.5 is what is dragging down my current grade. My whole essay was basically about overcoming drug abuse blah blah and working to take care of my family since my dad became disabled and couldn’t work. Also having 2 other siblings who are in college too.

@kingomsroa48: Lol, same here. I live in the Chino Hills area. Originally I was just going to move to my gf’s apt in Pasadena if I decided to go to CSUN since it’s close. But I haven’t decided where yet. Either way moving is going to be a PIA. Yeah because of furniture and what not. I’ll probably end up taking most of whats at m gf’s apt. I’m just worried about transporting my fish tank and all the equipment. Yeah, I’m a saltwater aquarium nerd. LOL!

Woo! Got accepted!

3.25 GPA
Lit Major
IGETC finished
Killer Essay

Got this on loooccckkk.

Just waitin on UCI…

^Congratz! Was your acceptance from yesterday or today? :O

@iDizzle: Awww fish! I love fish. I had one in my dorm at CSU, but I took off to Santa Cruz for a weekend and left him in my roommates care. Needless to say, they didn’t care for him and he got really sick and died eventually. Poor guy!

I really want to get into UCLA :frowning:
I might throw up and then die if I don’t.
I hate waiting. hah.

^^elle oh elle @ kingdoms. The story made this thread. I know you must’ve cared for the fish, but I saw where that was going with “but I took off”.

I got accepted to UCSC.

Has anyone else who got accepted been able to view any kind of preliminary financial aid awards info?
