Official UCSC Transfer 2012 Decisions

@Dizzle, Lawlking:
That depends on where you want to live entirely. UCSC is fairly close (5-7 minute drive) from downtown Santa Cruz. The community college is only about 15ish minutes from campus on a good day down Highway 1. I drive around there everywhere. Campus IS secluded, but not terribly so. Plus busses go around constantly (although their times are finicky).

The campus itself isn’t secluded from SC. There is housing off campus right outside the gates/driveways. When I visited it sure looked like some college aged folks were occupying some of those places. It seems like it would be a bit of an effort once you were ON campus because I think there’s limited parking. You’d have to park right inside campus and then hoof it around for the day. You COULD drive around on the campus though. There is paved roads leading every which way since buses have to dive around there. The tour bus we were on also used these routes. There IS dedicated parking there, but I’m not sure how it works - like if you need to be living on campus to qualify for it’s use or something/permit wise.

UCSC seems secluded once you’re on campus, but really it is closely attached to the actual city of SC. If you simply look at google maps, you can see that the Southern most portion of the campus is attached to SC residential, but you’d also notice that long driveway-type road going into campus. I don’t think that would be fun to walk/bike each day.

@lawlking, kiwee, turtlerock: Okay, thanks guys. I don’t mind driving or taking the bus since I will be living off campus no matter which UC or CSU I decide to go to. It’s just because I’ve seen that birds-eye view of the campus, and I just see the campus in the center of trees, as far as the eye can see. lol.

edit same thing with UCSB. Looks beautiful, but also looks like a pain if I lived off campus.

okay when I was admitted to UCR it said “you have been admitted to the college of arts & humanities under the History Major!”

UCSC just said “you’ve been admitted!”

Does that mean I have to declare my major when I SIR? Or *** what’s going on?

@uchappytrain: hmmmm, you’re right. Mine is the same. Do you think it implies that we don’t get the major that we applied as?

@iDizzle: I’m having the same issue! My boyfriend already lives up in UCSC, so we’ve been trying to coordinate something…Its hard to do though when you live all the way in SoCal and don’t have many opportunities to make it up there… :/

Also, I think there is a way to check on the portal which major you guys were admitted to, for those who are wondering. Have you looked around?

@Kiwee: Congratz! That’s awesome! :)

I got rejected from UCR and I haven’t heard back from UCSC… I’ll just have to try again next year

@Andres- What are your stats? I know that UCSC and UCR both have not finished reviewing their decisions. I have yet to hear back from either of them.

WOAH!

@Kingdom, I have a 2.5 GPA with 60 units but I’m still missing physics and I will have completed the IGETC by the end of this semester.

I think my essay played a big factor, it was really lousy.

Thats stupid, im so glad I didnt apply to those schools thou

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC

Andres, the biggest problem is probably your GPA.

A great, fantastic essay might have helped, but what sticks out is that 2.5, right or wrong unfortunately. I’m not even sure if a lot of UCs really thoroughly read your essay unless they are UCB / UCLA considering the extremely high amount of qualified students that apply there. (they *ie. the rest of the UCs might scan through it to see if its extremely compelling, but I don’t think it’ll be the dealbreaker)

I applied to UCB / UCLA and I got into UCSC FWIW.

@Andres- I agree with Xfactah. That GPA is going to hurt in admissions to any campus. Your essay does not weight nearly as heavily as the GPA.

@Xfactah- I think the holistic admissions for UCSC applies to freshman only. Nowhere in the article did the mention it for transfers, so you probably weren’t affected by this. Interesting though, huh?

@kingdomsroa48: Good catch. Totally ignored that it only affects frosh.

@Xfactah- I guess it explains the shocking frosh results though. I couldn’t believe some of the denied students I saw…3.8 GPAs and 2000+ SAT’s.

Maybe I should have applied to UCM – not another year here!

I applied to UCM

No response

^Haven’t heard from them either, which is surprising. I would’ve thought they would have already started releasing decisions by now.

I just talked to an admissions rep about when they’re releasing decisions. He basically told me that each individual application is posted to the portal as soon as it is done being reviewed. I’m going to assume that this means that the date of admission has nothing to do with your chance of acceptance and, unless you’re doing a TAG, is based more on the luck of the draw.

@isteal: Really? That’s good to hear. A bit reassuring!
