@northbeach:Yeah I got into SB. I’m still holding out for LA, Irvine and SD. Originally I was going to go to SFSU if I didn’t get into those 3. But now I’m kind of rethinking my plan, so if I don’t get my top 3 than SB might actually be an option. I just feel like I’ve come too far NOT to go to a UC. I actually applied to all of the UC’s just to see where I could get into and if my time as a college drop out helped me become a better student. lol

UCSB is a world class school. i hope you will attend a UC. the only UC schools that i will accept over santa barbara are UCLA and CAL only because my family went to those schools. the UC system has so many opportunities compared to UCSF. so i really hope to see you at a UC next semester. it would seem odd if you, me, and dilapidatedmind, chelz, and norcal did not end up in a top UC. hope we can all meet next fall to celebrate at CAL or UCLA, or UCSB. i would even choose UCSB over Davis or San Diego.

@northbeach: Yeah I agree. The only reason I was going to go to SFSU was because I want to ultimately end up with a career in the Bay area. I’m not sure but I think I saw somewhere that SB surpassed Irvine this year in rankings. Can someone confirm that?

yes, santa barbara passed irvine. and it also passed Davis as far as selectivity. meaning, it is much much harder to get into santa barbara than davis. i am from palo alto and it is better to attend any UC than SFSU or any state school for that matter. you know that-- right? check the rankings dude! the UC system is the new ivy league. and don’t you forget it. we bad, we so bad for getting into UCSB. just because they release their decisions early does not mean that they are not selective. UCSB is much much much much harder to get into than SFSU! don’t even consider it. anyway, we are all going to CAL. so why am i blabbering. if not CAL then UCSB! it rocks! UCSB is ranked number ten best public school in the country. woooooo. i love UCSB. UCSC is also great by the way. my dad loves it. and he loves those slugs!

I would personally choose UCSB over UCSD, UCI, and UCD. I feel that UCSB has a better overall college package. They are #10 in public schools in the USA, and they are a very social school which I like.

^^ yeah i was looking at the rankings today, it did say that UCSB was higher than irvine.

@northbeach I would never choose UCSB over Davis! are you crazy?

uchappytrain
that is fine, choose UC davis. but davis is much easier to get into than santa barbara! davis 65% admissions santa barbara 45%. davis is a superb school, but you know what, santa barbara is better for me because i am a history major and UCSB is harder to get into and ranks higher. in fact the UCSB graduate history department ranked higher than Yale, UCB, and UCLA! hahaha. read it and weep. never been the least bit crazy. just sane and happy. rock on dude.

i wasn’t being serious i’m sure you’re sane i’m a history major too! And I think Davis is ranked higher than SB overall, though. And I think UCD UCSD and UCI are more well known than UCSB. I had never heard of it until I started looking into colleges to transfer to. And UCSB is also a really big party school, so it kinda has that reputation, like it’s not taken seriously… that’s just my opinion though. I’m sure it’s a great school and all I just wouldn’t pick it over Davis or San Diego.

@IamSoCal
Yeah, UCSB is a great school. And since I am on the UCSC thread, UCSC is a fantastic school too! My dad loves it and the head of the school in the 1960’s was my father’s mentor in college when he was at CAL. so you dudes and babes who are attending UCSC rock on. it is a superb school. and i tool my mathematics from Dr. Migliore who teaches mathematics at UCSC. love him.

and maybe i’m a little jealous bc back when I was doing my UC application I didn’t even consider UCSB bc I hadn’t heard much about it… and I stupidly picked UCM over it bc I thought the more for suree acceptances the better haha… I wish I could go back and check UCSB instead of UCM.

@uchappytrain
you are a history major!? i am stunned, i really thought that i was the only history major left in california. seriously. that is so cool. i hope we get into the same school.

still waiting to hear from davis. is there a davis thread? can you start one? haha. davis is a great school, my dad went to cal and wants me to go to davis or santa cruz over santa barbara. hmmm. any word from davis.

^^I’ve heard that employers actually give you a second look if you went to UCSB. This is because they know that there are a lot of distractions at UCSB and the fact that you graduated there means that you have the ability to get ***t done. LOL

@lawlking look

take rankings with a grain of salt. I still consider UCD to be higher ranked than UCSB and so do a lot of other people/websites.

http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public

@lawlking
it is true, davis ranks higher in some things. but UCSB ranks numero uno for graduate degrees in history over yale, cal, and ucla. ucsb is a killer school for history and has a “history of science and technology” major like UCLA, and that is my field. but davis is an awesome school. and it will be a tough decision if i am accepted to davis too.

In other words, Davis and SB are toe-to-toe!

But I just say SB is better (just kidding)

I don’t think Davis decisions will be out for a while. so lameee. I’ve been accepted to all the lower-tiered UC’s I applied to and still pending at the upper ones. UCSC is my backup if I don’t get into UCSD UCD or UCI

@idizzle
i love it that UCSB used to be a party school. but those days are (unfortunately) over. right now i am prancing about telling my friends that the “Party People” accepted me. but really, UCSB is ranked very high. number ten best public school in the country. seriously, that party business is fine, and party people hire each other. but it is a thing of the past. i am older, and the UC system is the new ivy league. might be hard to imagine for younger folks, not sure, but seriously. it is so hard to get into UCSB right now. and anyone who was accepted should be seriously proud. haven’t you seen the 4.0 posters lamenting that they have not been admitted yet?

also, there is this girl who I hate that goes UCSB. her name is lauren and she has black hair. If you meet her stay away from her. she’s a nasty dumb hoebag. that is all.

in the “olden days” (haha) davis was always ranked third. UCB, UCLA, UCD. i really hope that we are all admitted to UCLA and UCB. then we can hash those decisions out. right? UCB would allow me to “write” my own specialization in the history department. that sounds like a luxury, and UCLA has “History of Science and Technology” and that is also great.
