Official UCSC Transfer 2012 Decisions

Ahhh, I’m freaking out :c Accepted on TAG, but no word yet. 3.9 GPA but not IGETC complete until after summer (summer courses last year got canceled entirely, put me back a whole TWO CLASSES on my IGETC schedule).

Anyone else here apply without IGETC? The administrators I’ve talked to told me it’s better to have my lower divisions done than my IGETC requirements… which I do except Physics, which isn’t required for my core class and I’ll be taking as soon as I can. But would I NOT be accepted because I don’t have my humanities courses finished yet… even though I will by the time I transfer?

Gahh. This wait is ruining my weekend and I need to study for tests D:

I applied with tag, it was approved, but i was denied into baskin, 3.29 gpa, igetc finished, prereq finished

@kiwee- I wouldn’t worry too much. You’ve got a high GPA, and IGETC is not required for admission, and even not recommended for some majors that are heavily focused in the math/science areas. I don’t have my IGETC 100% complete, but I’m only missing areas that are “CSU only” so, its complete for the UC’s. Seriously though, I have the same issue. I was counting on finding out last night so I had the motivation and focus to study and do well for my next calc exam!

I’m going to assume UCSC is going to release it every midnight in that order

^Any reason you think that? Doesn’t really seem like they have much of an “order”. And here they got everybody excited because they actually released dates/times for their decision release, and then didn’t even follow it! lol

Not in order, but their timing. They release a new batch starting from midnight and etc

Oh. I don’t know. I wonder if they’ll be releasing daily, or if its a once a week thing…hmm…

@Kingdoms

What confuses me is this -
“Four UC-transferable college courses (3 semester or 4-5 quarter units each) chosen from at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and physical and biological sciences.”
So they don’t care if you have IGETC totally completed as long as you have the first two portions (math/english) and then FOUR of those courses… total? Because I have four of those courses total -

Physical/Bio sciences: Astronomy, Chem I/II (both labs), Bio I/II (both labs)
Behavioral: Sociology, Anthropology

And (currently taking) Arts and Humanities: Intro to Humanities, Film

So I only have to take one Behavioral and one Arts/Humanities to complete IGETC which I’m doing this summer. But if they only want four courses completed, I’m totally fine… so is that what they mean? Because if that is… then… I’ll stop twitching and go back to studying for my Bio exam x_x

Also if they only post once a week I’ll shoot my computer XD

@kiwee- You listed above the minimum requirement for admission purposes. I think that’s all you have to have complete in order to apply and be given a chance to be accepted. If you don’t finish IGETC prior to transfer, you just end up finishing whatever you have left when you enroll at the UC. Like I said, IGETC is NOT required for admission, so I’m sure you’ll be fine! I’m pretty sure IGETC is a filler for those units that your major-prep does not fill up. So if your major prep does not take up an entire 60 units, that’s where IGETC will come in and fill in the gaps so you do meet 60 units. Having such a high GPA and a TAG applicant, your basically in.

I really hope they release decisions more than once a week…

@Kingdom
Man I could’ve probably filled up most of my transfer credits with lower divisions if I had the time :stuck_out_tongue: I still need to take physics so that’s another freakin’ 10 units on top of the 62 I have and the sixty… eight maybe? Or nine? I’ll have by the time I finish summer courses. Craziness.

What’s your major? (: And who all is staying where when they transfer? I’m really excited to meet people. I live in a tiny bop town where… everyone sucks XD;

@Kiwee- No kidding! I applied as a Marine Bio major but will most likely change it to psychology after I get in. I didn’t even bother doing the physics here because the professors that teach the course are terrible here. I had also been told by my local UCSC admissions rep that they don’t really “expect” you have to physics done before you transfer. Yes, it’s important, but having GenChem, GemBio, Calc, etc is more important than the physics. So don’t feel bad! What’s your major?

I haven’t decided yet where I’m going to stay. Still trying to figure out whether or not my boyfriend and I will live together, or if I’ll live in Porter/The Village. How about you? :)

@Kingdoms
I’m an Envs/Bio major and I’ll probably wind up living in Porter :stuck_out_tongue: I think you HAVE to live on campus your first quarter, don’t you? I’ve talked to my boyfriend about moving in together, but it won’t really work while we’re in college together. Besides, he’s going to be a Merill RA next year so… definitely won’t work, then! XD I’ve thought about the University Town Center but… I think I’d rather be in the forest. I’m just nervous about having roommates. I’ve had flat mates forever, but I’m used to having my own space :stuck_out_tongue: but I think that’s a pretty common fear.

WHAT THE HELL PEOPLE FROM MY COLLEGE ARE FINDING OUT (well, one person). THIS IS SO ANNOYING.

i wanted to find out before i visited UCSC. i’m sad.

has anyone with an accepted TAG been accepted officially yet?

@Kiwee- That’s funny! My boyfriend got hired as an RA alternate for Merill, which is kind of why housing options are still up in the air. But no, I don’t think you HAVE to live on campus at all, but its an available option if you request it. But I can totally understand wanting your own room, which is why I’m so drawn to The Village! I’ve done the whole roommate thing at Colorado State University so I don’t really feel like I’m missing out. Having personal space is nice!

@AB- I know! Hopefully they’ll release batches soon, and preferably more than once a week! You know whats odd though? Seems like MOST people that were waiting for UCSC here on CC didn’t get notified last night! I mean, there were a few, but there were far more that didn’t hear…

@Uchappy- I know…I definitely know that feeling. I’m going up there in two weeks, and I’ll be pretty bummed if I don’t hear ahead of time.

Anybody having trouble with view application status? When I click on mine it says “Thank you for applying for Fall 2010” I applied for 2012. Not sure if this is a typo or site problem. Anyone else getting this?

@tommy- Thats odd…Mine says:

“UC Santa Cruz has received your application for fall 2012! As we thoroughly review the thousands of applications we have received, here is some important information for you to know.”

Is it weird that they haven’t e-mailed me to check my status? I checked last night and saw I got in, but I was expecting some sort of notification, even if it was hours delayed. So…for anyone still waiting, you might not want to rely on an e-mail telling you to check your status…:/

@ newsoul: I noticed that too. I got accepted to UCR on Thursday but never received an email.

Also how am I supposed to check the UCSC portal for decisions? IF I got accepted will it say something on the Homepage or do I have to click Main Menu -> Application Status and Info -> View Application Status?
