***Official UIUC Class of 2019 Applicant Thread***

College of Engineering has two different major for computers, one is Computer Science and other is Computer Engineering. Any insight into which one is more popular among applicants as first choice?

@longwait20‌ computer science is more popular as a first choice major.

There were around 3300 CS applicants this year - highest in its history but also higher than any other field in Engineering ever

@longhorndreamer‌ I applied for Biochemistry

Any other MechE’s on here? Only three more days!

wish they would stop sending reminders. i can count the days. every time i try and forget they remind me

What about selectivity in ChemE? Its in College of LAS right? and do they look at the Math and Science of ACT more than the other parts?

I applied in AeroE. :slight_smile:

@JANSAT2400 They probably value the math more than the rest.

Civil eng. here

@JANSAT2400, I would say ChemE isn’t too difficult to get in to assuming that you have top stats. Really, nothing at UIUC is as insane as CS. Last year, they were turning away CS applicants who were more qualified than the average admits to the other engineering majors.

Another reminder email…sigh

I did, I applied to political science in LAS.

Any Econ majors in the house?!

They need to stop sending these reminders. What about students who don’t get accepted? For some, it’s counting down the days to bad news, which really isn’t okay. I remember how painful it was to receive deferrals from my top choice schools a couple months back. I think it’d be even worse if they buttered me up for the decision like Illinois is doing.

@dasdqw123 Potential Econ Major right here

I’ve never both feared and anticipated a day more in my life
