***OFFICIAL UIUC CLASS OF 2021 ADMISSIONS THREAD****

@coreau0806 @AudgeM when I click on my application, it says:
“Status: Complete
Your status will be updated on December 16, 2016.”

@AudgeM it can’t just say your status is complete without telling you the release date of your result. But if I am wrong, I strongly recommend contact uiuc admission office

@ehomedi same with mine haha lets hope for our best

So scared for decisions! December 16th is rapidly approaching

I have no idea why I’m back on CC but I’m a current CS major at UIUC if there are any questions.

@infiniteCircle - welcome back!! how competitive to get into CS+X program compared to CS in Engineering school? Out of state top 8% with 32 ACT, currently taking AP Cal BC and AP computer Science in senior year.

@ACT2017 As a CS in Engineering major I can only speculate, but I do believe CS+X is thought of to be easier to get into simply because there is (a lot) more demand for CS in the College of Engineering. I don’t know the how the difficulty of admissions compares for the two but I know a 32 ACT OOS would likely be too low for CS(ENG) (as I’ve heard we had something like an average 34/35 ACT among accepted students) but it might be a match for CS+X. I feel as if admissions pays more attention to GPA though.

@infiniteCircle is Civil Engineering at UIUC easier to get into than CS or MechE? I applied for Civil and I’m worried I wont get in lol

@northshoreguy My roommate is a Civil Engineer and he thinks Mech is more difficult to get into because he thinks it’s in higher in demand, but obviously this could be wrong because this is purely speculation and not statistics based. I think Civil one of the easier Engineering programs to get into here but of course that doesn’t mean it is bad because as you probably know, UIUC is ranked #1 for Civil.

edit:
Forgot to address the CS part. CS(ENG) is statistically the hardest major to get into at UIUC (from last year’s stats) so yeah, Civil is easier to get into than CS.

I have a question. I only sent my second ACT score to UIUC. It wasn’t very good. But, my first score was really good. I went on the ACT website and sent the first score report to UIUC AFTER every thing was due. However, when I go into the application, it says they have received my higher score. However, will they use the my bad score (which was the one I had originally sent in)? Or, will they use my higher score (which I had sent in late)?

I’m pretty sure UIUC and many other schools will only consider the highest score they receive @aimlesswriter

@aimlesswriter dont worry!! UIUC only considers the best score you’ve gotten. I remember hearing that no matter how many socres you send, whether it is bad or good, they will only look at THE BEST score throughout (I think they super score as well? but i only 90% sure about this)

@infiniteCircle My son applied CS: ACT 36, GPA 3.86UW, super community service.

What do you think about his chance? Thank you!

Chance me for College of Business? 2000 SAT, 3.7 UW GPA, 4.5 W

@sunny_01 Of course I can’t make a decision based only on those numbers but the ACT score is obviously very good and the GPA is good as well. Those stats are good enough for just about any school so I wouldn’t worry on that front. But admissions considers more than just those two numbers so you’ll have to wait and see.

Ideally I’d rather be asked questions about the program itself rather than chance me’s because we should all know how useless it is for me to speculate as to whether or not you’ll get in.

@infiniteCircle Fair enough, thanks. UIUC CS has a good reputation as one of top under CS programs. How do you like it so far and what do you like it most so far? Thanks again.

@infiniteCircle - what is difference between CS+X and CS as part of COE, do employers prefer one or the other?

@ACT2017 CS is CoE is more difficult to get into but other than that, I don’t think there are too many differences academically. CS+X should have just about the same CS courses except they also focus on the +X part as well. I highly doubt employers care which one you are in but the only difference that I know of is the differences in Gen Ed requirements between LAS and CoE. That being said, there might be some differences that come in CS courses later but for now, I (a CS in CoE major) am taking the same CS classes as my +X peers. If you have a particular interest in one of the +X subjects, then you should opt for the +X program because you get the best of both worlds in one major.
