GPA: 3.97 UW (my school doesn’t weight but I think my weighted GPA is something like 4.3 or 4.4?)
ACT: 32
SAT: 2120
decent essay + ECs (nothing stellar though)
I’m honestly really surprised… but pleased obviously.

Login to My Illini and click your application. For example, mine says ‘Freshman App: Fall 2017, Aerospace Engineering.’
Once you click your application, you should see the ‘Freshman Admitted Students Checklist’. Underneath a box with your details such as name, UIN, and residency, you should see a honors box. If you don’t see one, it means that you haven’t been invited to the James Scholar program.
UIUC admits:
Message me if you want the links to the UIUC Class of 2021 Facebook group and the Class of 2021 engineering students GroupMe.
Congrats to all! If you were wait listed, I hope you ultimately get a position. For all of those denied, I’m sure there’s a great school out there for all of you.
@ByteZz Thank you for your detailed reply! It helped a lot.
I didn’t get it - did you?
Also congrats on being admitted!

Any chance that I can change to Computer Engineering?
@literallymarx To be honest, I kind of applied to CS just for the heck of it. I’ve done a lot with coding in the past and just wanted to see if I could get in. I’m thinking of either electrical or computer engineering. And you need a 3.5 to be guaranteed admission into computer engineering for sophomore year, and a 3.25 to be guaranteed admission.
How easy is it for you to get accepted off a CS wait list?
Yes! I was invited to the ENG James Scholar program. Don’t worry about not being invited. I believe you can apply for it when you matriculate. Also, the benefits don’t seem to be enormous.
Did anybody receive scholarship details in their admission letter?
Ppl who are accepted to thr second major… when they open thr portal … what do they see in myillini… appplication fall 2017…(first major or
Second major )
Second major
Did everyone already receive their admission letter? My Illini said it may take upto a week to get mine. Any idea why mine is late?
It’s late for everyone.
How competitive is Mathematics?
@vtanboy29 No, you have to go through the standard transfer process. There’s nothing wrong with CS/Math, you take the exact same classes as CS ENG except with a bit more focus on theoretical CS and some more high level math classes mixed in with your tech electives.
@xxvivianxx Oh, you’re good then. It’s just sad to see people who do really well, try to transfer into CS, and get rejected.
@ManaManaWegi Getting admitted or the major itself?
Now I kind of regret not putting an alternate major to CS in COE…
@ByteZz Can you send me the GroupMe link?
@ALLCAPS24 Same.! Do you guys think that not putting an alternate major at all would have gotten me to CS in COE??? Or probably just waitlisted
An alternative major may have gotten you into UIUC. However, do remember that, at UIUC, majors are pretty much binding. Do you really want to significantly change your interests just to be accepted to one university out of hundreds of great ones?
I know rejection hurts, but remember that all of you will end up at great places. What I’m writing is very cliche. However, it doesn’t make what I’m writing any less true.
