Well, when I say alternate major I mean like CS+Math or CS+Statistics. But yeah, I do think I would’ve gotten in with my scores had I put that. Sucks because I was hoping for some scholarship as well. But can’t worry about that now. No regrets
I was waitlisted but apparently if you put a second major and are accepted to your second choice, you are considered waitlisted for your first…so basically I f’d up
@literallymarx Answering both would be helpful if you had the insight.
I am an international applicant from India and I have been wait listed in cs at coe. I had put my second major as undecided dgs
So does this mean I have been rejected from my second major ?
So many waitlists for CS IN COE. Do colleges do this deliberately to publicize low acceptance rates in the field?
@vtanboy29 I dont understand the point you’re making because at the end of the day acceptance rate is calculated based on the number of students admitted and the number of students who have applied . so how does it matter how many students they waitlist ?The number of students admitted will more or less be same .
Does anyone know where we can find out if we got scholarships from UIUC or have those not been released yet?
@ManaManaWegi The major isn’t extremely difficult to get into, but still somewhat competitive as it is ranked fairly well. From what I’ve heard from friends in Mathematics is that people are more collaberative than competitive especially in higher level classes. I don’t personally have any experience with any math classes above the 200-level so its hard for me to say anything definitively.
How to check my financial aid without accepting the admission?
This is what U of I said in an email to counselors.
“Computer Science continues to become even more competitive. This year we received over 4,300 applications for approximately 215 seats in the Fall 2017 freshman class. Many outstanding students with impressive academic credentials were denied admission. Students who were admitted had very strong academics combined with in-depth experiences in coding, research, math- and science-related competitions, internships, and more. For the majority of students, the decision to admit was based on qualitative factors such as passion, goals, and potential impact on society as demonstrated by the essay.”
That’s absolutely insane. 5% is next level competitive. Almost near MIT’s admit rate for international students.
@xxvivianxx Where did you see that? Did your counselor show you? Will admits get an email as well?
After being rejected from COE CS and Stats/CS, why was I not accepted into DGS even though my stats are well above the 75th percentile for UIUC in general? (See previous post for stats.)

I’m pleasantly surprised I got in! Still not sure if I will go here though!
@shadyrainbows did you put a 2nd major? At the visit they said that if you were rejected from 1st major and had put a 2nd major you were considered for that major as well as DGS. If you did not put a 2nd major, then you would not be considered for any other avenue for admission (i.e. DGS).
Any bdy accepted to aerospace whose secnd choice was aerospace
Did u get in?
I had a class rank of 1/625 and a SAT Score of 1470 with an 800 in Math! I don’t understand what they want. ARGH
