Official UMD Transfer Thread

No, I haven’t touched anything on the website other than checking my status since I will have the actual accepatance letter within few days with more details. Good luck everyone especially those who applied for LEP. I didn’t make it.

Just got in, pretty stoked. I cant check my financial aid yet, anyone else able to check their aid package?

Hey guys what are my chances of getting in?

-Currently in a MD community college
-2.75 gpa
-30 creds

Hi, everyone I was wondering what gpa requirements is there for UMD? I have to take precalc next fall of 2012 but i will start my application in the summer so will they make wait until i finish precalc to accept me?

Hi everybody! I am at Anne Arundel Community College. I am 32 and pursuing a Chemistry Degree. I have a 3.918 GPA…it was a 4.0 until I got a B in Calc 1. I am taking second semester of Orgo and Calc 2 all I have left is Physics 1 and 2 and a couple electives.

I want to go to UMDCP but their Chemistry program is a LEP. Are my chances of getting in with a 3.918 good? Hoping to keep the GPA as it is but second semester Orgo is crazy and I am worried I might get a B. Trying my ass off though lol.

Also, when you have an associates degree from a community college do they care about high school GPA and SAT scores? I ask because I was a horrible student when I was younger, I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 28…but the difference now is I really care about learning and doing well. I never even took the SATs. I hope its not an issue.

Hey…I am a bit worried about my chances of getting into Maryland engineering on account of my relatively low GPA. I attend an in state CC. And I currently have a GPA of 3.04. My grades look like this…

Environmental Science - A
Calc I - C
Calc II - B
Physics I - C
Intro to MATLAB - A
Economics I - A
English Composition - A
Literature - A
Chem I - C
Chem II - A
Intro to Engineering - B

Note that I have already completed the gateway requirements successfully.

This fall Im taking…

Calc III
Statics
Physics II
Economics II
STEM Honors Seminar

I want to transfer in the fall of 2013 as a UMD Civil Engineer Major. My EC’s are crazy…I am Vice Chair of Student Program Board (SPB) at my college (which requires a weekly 20 hour paid commitment), secretary of US Green Construction Forum, SPB rep for Engineering Club, and Afro-American Student Association… But I am getting earfuls that 3.04 GPA is still too low even for a transfer student with 40 credits. What are my chances, if I were to apply for spring 2013? Should I wait until Fall 2013 to raise my GPA to be more competitive? Considering the difficulty of my future classes, I can probably get it as high as a 3.30, but no more. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi I’m really hoping I can transfer into UMD for fall 2013.To Transfer after one year, you must have 30 or more credits for high school grades to be disregarded.I started my first semester of CC at NOVA.I am taking 16 credits , but its more like 10 because 4 credits are a developmental class(noncredits) and the other is a required student development class that I doubt would transfer over.I plan on taking 15 or 16 credits spring 2013, leaving me with about 25 or 26 credits by the time I apply .I was planning on finishing my last 4 or 5 credits that summer. Will I still be able to transfer over without them considering my high school grades and SAT scores? 2.7 gpa and 1560 sat. They weren’t very good and I don’t want them to be considered and perhaps jeopardize my acceptance for fall 2013.If they end up looking at my high school grades SATS, will they be looked at very seriously though i would have had 20 + credits to look at too.Should I retake SATS?Thoughts? Will I have problems?
I Really Really would like to transfer after this year.

thanks

Transfer to UMD Engineering LEP problem. I have plenty of credits and a 4.0 GPA. Unfortunately, I now have 2 gateway courses that I have repeated. On the UMD webpage it specifically states that only one gateway course can be repeated. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Does anyone know if they would waive that requirement? Any other options out there? Thanks.

Anyone applying to transfer to UMD this spring?
