so I thought I’d start a thread about Fall 2018 transfer admissions since there isn’t one yet. I want to know what my chances are of getting in.
I’m currently a second semester freshman at a Maryland cc and at time of application to UMD I’ve completed 20 credits. I’ve taken both an english and math required class but for some reason the math class i took doesn’t transfer equally to UMD but more as an elective so i hope that doesn’t hurt my chances. my gpa is exactly a 3.0. This is mostly why im concerned because i know they say 3.0 average or above, so i’m right at the border line. i also submitted my ACT and high school stats because i have less than 30 credits. my ACT superscore is a 29. high school GPA not that great-3.2 but i think they’ll focus more on my college stuff so far. my essay is good. what do you guys think?
I also applied to transfer to UMD for the fall 2018 since January and when I went to talk to a transfer advisor I heard her tell the kid before that if you have at least a 2.0 gpa and have completed the math and english requirement than you be good.
I did take an english and a math but my math class doesn’t transfer equally from my prior school to UMD, it transfers as an elective, is that gonna affect my acceptance?
-45 completed credits, 14 in progress
-currently attend a 4 year in state univ.
-3.35 GPA
-business major
-applied by priority deadline
-a few extracurriculars
-a summer internship
-currently working part time in retail
-math and english completed
Thank you!!
I’m nervous because the avg transfer gpa for fall 2017 was 3.47.
Hey guys, did anyone else submit their app through Coalition? UMD received it but my recommendation has yet to show up as received. The recommendation is in my Coalition “locker” but it wasnt submitted by my Professor till the 1st of March. Anyone familiar with how this works? Thanks guys, this forum has helped so much.
@bragierrnot This is the reply I got from the email I sent to the admissions counselor. “Once every required document is reflected on the Checklist, it may still take a few days of processing for the Complete Date to reflect this as well. Please note that we will take into account the dates that documents arrive, not this complete date, when determining if a student’s application is complete by the deadline.”

Applying for the June 1st deadline under GVPT, wondering if it might be best for me to wait until the Spring to apply for the priority deadline and nail down some GE’s that won’t transfer. I’m a 2nd-year and currently have 72 units at a Cal State, but 18 of them are from AP/CLEP (of which UMD will only recognize 6), and 5 units are from an internship. Additionally, 15 in progress units, 3 poli sci major courses and another GE. Also, most of my classes are 4/5 units bc my university is weird, so I’ve only taken 16 graded courses. My ENGL 101 course I took my first year doesn’t equate to UMD’s ENGL 101 for some reason according to their database. How screwed am I? I’ve completed Calculus with a C, and will have my GVPT gateway req and skills req finished if accepted. Also, what are the odds of me getting some sort of Fall 2018 housing on campus by applying this late?
Other Stats for my app:
-Cumulative GPA 3.431 (transferred two Spanish classes from HS dual enrollment)
-CSU GPA 3.669
-ACT 29
-HS GPA 3.6 weighted
-1 Letter of Rec from a political science prof.
-Extracurricular’s: Special-needs camp counselor, Spring 2017; Congressional Internship, Fall 2017; Part-time winter job for the past three years.
-Essay where I wrote how the number of GVPT courses will help apply to my studies what I learned as an intern. Also mentioned campus life / clubs, sports, etc.
-Including a one-page resume as well
