Yes i got my acceptance email today!!!

Congrats! Anyone else looking at chem or biochem majors?

UM Engineering 2014!

@ crono
yeah texas. it’s nice i guess in some parts. austin is really great, especially downtown in the UT area but houston is pretty gross. haha is detroit really that bad? my dad hates it and doesn’t want me to go to mich just because i’d be close to detroit haha. i like ann arbor though, it looked like such a great “college city”

@ashes
i used to live in europe and as far as i remember i loved the cold … but then again i was only four. everytime it snows in texas (it did a week ago!) we all get SUPER excited haha

Oh man, it’s bad. I mean, the sports facilities and a small strip of downtown with all the theatres is okay, but the rest is pretty awful. Flint is just as bad, just on a smaller scale. Luckily, though, Ann Arbor is a beautiful place, and while it’s a lot smaller, there’s plenty to do. Though if you’re into clubs or concerts, you’re probably going to have to make your way to Detroit, Pontiac, or Lansing at some point. It’s not life-threatening, just keep your head up I guess hahaha.

hahaha i still don’t get what you mean by bad. that was my issue with michigan though, it doesn’t seem like there’s much to do in terms of going out. like in houston you can see just about anyone (i saw U2, coldplay, muse, aerosmith, and bob dylan all in less then 6 months…which was pretty legit) and there’s always something to do. michigan seems like a bunch of football fanatics who party a lot haha

…not that there’s anything wrong with that either. but that was my impression of it when i went to ann arbor

jackdaniels are you gonna fly everytime when you go to and from home?

“Bad” means if you wander down the wrong street there’s a good chance you’ll get shot.

nah houston’s just as bad. downtown isn’t really all that safe.

yeah i guess i’ll fly. a drive from michigan to texas doesn’t really seem appealing haha. idk if i’m even going to mich yet though, so we’ll see!

Haha same. If I fly its definately gonna be soo expensive.

i know! oos tuition is already going to be a b!tch

…You didn’t think there was anything to do in Ann Arbor?

And the in staters definitely don’t all know each other even a little bit. When I came to Michigan I knew maybe like two people here. Most of the freshmen I knew managed to get in touch with one or two other people who went to their school but that’s it. There are 25,000 kids, come on now! My high school had 6000 and I still didn’t know most of them.

Sorry man, but you can’t even compare Detroit to Houston. Two different ballparks!

And as far as concerts and stuff go, there’s PLENTY to do in Michigan, just not as much in Ann Arbor. There are venues in Detroit, Pontiac, and Lansing (as I already stated) for most types of shows, and we also have the largest outdoor amphitheater in America in the DTE Theater in Clarkston and The Palace in Auburn Hills. All this stuff is roughly an hour from Ann Arbor, so don’t worry about getting bored!

i guess i just need to visit it again before making a decision. the last time i visited i was with my dad so i didn’t get to really see much but the college (and i didnt even get to do a tour, which sucked … i just went to the graduation) but yeah from what you guys are saying it sounds pretty legit

This song about Michigan is pretty awesome: [YouTube - Welcome to the Big House (University of Michigan Fight Song)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-uvPHL5Mqg) . I can’t stop listening to it!

jackdaniels…
Believe me, EVERYONE comes to Detroit too. Lady Gaga, U2, Taylor Swift, free Justin Beiber and Iyaz concerts (haha)
And our sports teams are amazing. Okay, not the Lions…but the Red Wings are the best and Piston games are always fun.

And um…the actual CITY of Detroit is really not that bad. Mind you, you shouldn’t be walking by yourself at night just as in any city but it’s a really nice city–honestly you might just like it! It’s just the really close suberbs that surround it that are a bit shadyyyyy. :)

goood i’m glad that there’s some sort of entertainment hha. and yeah, i know the sports teams are amazing. the only thing i even really followed through was umich football and ut football lol.

i’ve heard from everyone that detroit is absolutely terrible /:

It should be fine for me.
i love the cold. unless its below 30, its not cold :)

sucks that its division 1 for me. means i cant play any sports

Does anyone know how low your grades can go before they rescind your acceptance?

^ yeah… that would be helpful.
