Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

Ah… This Friday is so close yet so far.

If any of us get our decision, we must report back to the forum ASAP to let everyone know that it has begun lol.

@ron I’m not really sure about that. Have you tried looking online anywhere? Maybe Econ has a site specifically that can give you more insight? 3.6 isn’t bad at all. ACTUALLY wait wait wait. I creep on the UNC Admissions blog sometimes when I’m bored in class and I was reading old Q&As from past years & she basically said that they don’t really look at your intended major unless you’re applying to like… nursing school or any of those other special schools/majors (I’m assuming it’s all the ones that had that additional part on the app.) So, I don’t think it matters too much. I’ve decided I wanna change my major anyway so I hope it doesn’t matter.

I truly, truly, truly hate the admission counselor that I contacted today. Emory doesn’t say mid-term report is required on their website, its only required of those with less than 30 credits. I asked her about it just in case she still requires one, and she said, “yes.” I said, “where does that information come from? I checked like 20 times on your website” and whatever. Then she said, “as I said, you will need to send one. You are going to be considered a regular decision if we receive it later than april, 8th.”
I got so ****ed off and said, “Could you please put the right information on your website? Who is able to know if he actually needs to send mid-term report with that wrong information? your website gives me wrong information AND you didn’t contact me and tell me to send it.”
She finally gave me a last hook, “how do many people know if they need to send it then?”
I gave her my last hook, “NYU emails EVERY APPLICANT and tells them to send one. Also, all the information on their website is 100% clear and correct.”

XXXX…
Bad words almost came out of my mouth but i stopped it. I don’t really care about the fact that I might be affected by this lady, but I just corrected her.
I am taking 6 classes and had only one exam. My professors said they didn’t gather all the grades and other factors until the end of the semester. So I forwarded this mail to the lady.

@ronaldot

hi same here. I applied as an econ major. don’t worry about that too much. You go to a good school where it’s harder to get good grades. i think they will take that into consideration. hope we will get in!!

Hey tndud6364. I also applied as econ major. Can you share your stats little bit?

@Jk1018
hey nice to meet you and here is my stats

international student, male.

High school gpa: somewhere between 2.2 and 2.5 (I spent the whole 3 years for my professional pc game contest and billiard contest, which are stated on my app.)

Community College gpa: 3.900 (41.5 credits and 21 credits are in progress now)

Awards and activities: dean’s list for 3 semesters, several scholarships including the one from enlish department as an international studen t, ptk member, math club, campus magazine, volunteer as an english tutor at a local church, tutor for college students, participation in international essay contest, semi finalist of the national pc game contest out of 8 millions, semi finalist of 3 cushion contest, several championships for soccer.

No sat and act
No toefl test score (required of all international students, but they got it waived as I told them about my super busy schedule of this semester)

That’s all and i don’t think it’s good enough. But one thing i want them to know is a great improvement along with my life, because I started English and math from a basic level like abcdefg and elementary algebra.

do you mind sharing your? thanks

@tndud Yea, the lady I called was somewhat rude too. Did you try explaining to her that you already have over 30 credits? The site clearly does state that people with 30+ credits do not need to turn in a mid-term. Also, thanks for giving me that piece of information about April 8th being the final deadline, I need to turn my midterm report in ASAP. Also, if you are having trouble getting your grades from some professors, like I am, then just email them explaining the situation. They told me that it is fine if I am missing a class or two from my midterm since some professor can not or will not give out grades half way through the semester.

Also, I am an econ major too :D

Is anyone applying as a biology major?

Wait wait wait. Mid-term report?
Like - first semester transcript? o0o0or… Spring mid-term report?

Oh wait, you guys are talking about Emory - right?

woo, almost freaked out. Nvm. Lmao

@tndud365

HS GPA: 3.2
GPA: 3.94, If I include pre-esl grades it is 3.79 (53 credits and will take 18-19 next semester), have two Withdraws because of medical issue. Going to explain in the essay.

I’m also an international student. By the way, do you know if the low ESL scores will transfer?

Does anyone know what UNC mainly look at when they are reviewing transfer applications? GPA, EC or essays or any other things? Since they do not require IE or MT. I did not submit any except transcripts and test scores.

@ybing It’s a holistic review. So they’re looking at everything, lol.

Yeah…Anyway, the decisions are released soon. Wait wait wait…

everything EXCEPT, apparently, state residency.

@jk1018
wow, im korean, too!
anyway
if esl courses have been included in your gpa, then they would see your total gpa of course. But as fas as my knowledge goes, they wouldn’t weigh it too much on your decision, so my guess is that you will be fine as you have shown you are capable of managing college works. Your stats seem very good!!

@SAT100
thank you for your information
emory is literally sucks when it comes to some people in admission office.
I would send mine this week except for statistics!

@ALL
I got a mail from UNC and she said they are finalizing decisions. So she told me to email her with recommendation if i want within 2 days!
I guess we can expect our decisions to come out next week!!

tndud: thanks for the update this is great news! maybe even with her saying to get your letter in two days, which would be thursday, is a hint that maybe there still is a possibility we could see decisions this week during the afternoon on friday. Or maybe im just being too optimistic lol

@colonial37
yes it’s possible that we see our decisions this friday! lets stay optimistic lol
if im accepted to unc, i would start stduying for this semester lol I haven’t been able to get things done so far because of the thought of this transfer thing… jesus

haha im with you on that. my lack of sleep/productivity this week in particular is really bad lol. hopefully friday!

Friday would be amazing lol

Can’t wait!!
